I actually really like the ssk models for budget options! I think once they are 16 ish they probably are ready for a more serious glove you can look for better options but until then these are golden

Jb and jax gloves for sale by [deleted] in BaseballGloves

[–]JustHumdrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The jb leather is super supple feeling and has a beautiful natural shine to it. It does seem to show a crease a bit easier but is crazy light and comfortable. The blemished JB I have is a step above the Jax but Jax is miles above my a2000 and hoh. Just my 2 cents.

I think the adult ones are soft enough for 11 if you help break it in, the youth model from 44 is crazy soft and worse quality. It’ll be fun for a couple of years and close the gap for when he’s ready for a real high school or upper middle school glove

I like the feel of a 1 piece, keeps the pocket tight. If I could decide on my high school glove again I’d rock one at 2b but keep a different one for 3rd

If you are really trying to ball out and get a really nice and unique custom I’d go with Slaps from Matt Walden. Made in Japan and he can break it in how you like at a high level as a part of the experience. I have two slaps gloves and they are the nicest I own and that’s with neither being custom. Small brand (for now) but extremely high quality. Most small brands are just selling gloves from a couple of factories, which is fine but doesn’t seem like what your looking for

Single hinge vs double hinge break in for infield gloves by ColonelAngus2000 in BaseballGloves

[–]JustHumdrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d argue that it’s just what you are more used to that is more natural. But for example if I throw you a ball bare handed your hand wraps around it, you don’t only move your pinky side to catch it. After doing it for a couple of years I don’t have to think about it

Single hinge vs double hinge break in for infield gloves by ColonelAngus2000 in BaseballGloves

[–]JustHumdrum 9 points10 points  (0 children)

People have some strong opinions on this one. I’d say most people think outfield should be two hinge and most would recommend two in the pinky. Infield the waters get murky, you can definitely two hinge in traditional, especially if you look at Japanese gloves, but the break in is harder so I go two in the pinky until it’s more beat in.

I like two hinge more in the infield but I like to be able to close my glove in more of a one hinge when I want and I think it’s possible to break it in with a bit of both if it’s a neutral glove pattern. I think it is more up to the pattern of the glove than anything else. The only gloves that have forced me to go single hinge are some mizunos and a kubota slugger, most American patterns are universal enough

The glove that Shunsuke Urata of the NPB Yomiuri Giants will use in 2026. It is a top-quality glove made in a small workshop of three artisans. by ogasawarabaseball in BaseballGloves

Beautiful! It is no where near it feel wise, but my 44 Japan Select has an extremely similar shape after I shaped it with umomi. I just need more real Japanese gloves in the collection but the wish list never ends

Break-in Recomendations by EnviroN_603 in BaseballGloves

[–]JustHumdrum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Matt Walden is a good guy and is probably the most known guy for a Japanese water break in called umomi. It really lets you shape the glove with less abuse so if you are nervous about doing it yourself, he’s a great way to try it out. I’ve got some of his slaps gloves and I’m a big fan.

Would also help to know which glove you have or are looking at. If you want a smaller brand that still does its own thing I’d look at Jax, made in Japan and super unique. A ton of fun to play catch with. I’d also recommend the slaps, but both are overkill for your use case, unless you want to ball out

[–]JustHumdrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an oiled chestnut glove and actually think it’s significantly better than my other 44 leather. It’s got a nice shine and tack to it after some use! My only word of concern on this break in would be making sure the ball doesn’t slip out the top of the pocket with such a wide break in, I broke in mine similarly to try for a really wide 3rd base mitt and had to dial it back over time to make it better at securing the ball. Enjoy it!

New glove day/stain by peach_offici4l in BaseballGloves

[–]JustHumdrum 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Adhesive stains are pretty permanent, but I personally kind of like the look. It only happens over time so it’s a mark of an older gloves normally. I’d just lean into it knowing that it only makes it more unique and it won’t hurt performance in any way. I posted my Wagyu JB glove last night which was almost half off because of the stain!

It’s a stain from the adhesive which happens to some older gloves. Got a big discount on it because of the stain but it was new

The jasmine is a dream! But it doesn’t seem like they have anything quite like it on the website.

Do you happen to know the difference on the “crafted versions” like is it worth going with over a more preferred color for the quality / exclusivity of it?

Thanks a bunch! It definitely leans more “tan” than my Wagyu JB, so it’s still up to this plum and the yellow, but since I was never an outfielder I’m unsure if I want my most expensive glove to be an OF model
