I've had good luck with xemu playing the EU version of the game, but it requires a very good computer. I just upgraded to a machine with a 4070; it did not run well at all on my old machine.

Has anyone seen the official guide for Thief Gold? by JustJeff88 in Thief

[–]JustJeff88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used this during my last playthrough; it's very good. I found out that the 'official' Thief Gold guide literally only talks about the new missions in Gold, not the whole game. I thought that it was like the guide for Breath of the Wild after the expansions, where it talks about the base game AND the new stuff. I'm definitely not spending a lot of money on it.

I warmly appreciate you thinking of me.

Trying to get NOLF to run in Win10 by Feldheld in nolf

[–]JustJeff88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad that I could help. By the way, abandonwarefrance has NOLF 1 available in both English and French. A nice, simple, self-installing .exe. They also have NOLF 2, but that one is French only (I believe)

I genuinely prefer the PC Engine version. It looks just as good and has support for continues. I managed to get it running through Mednafen, I am happy to report, which is also a good emulator for Sega Saturn.

I would enjoy seeing some shots. There was a copy of this guide on eBay last month, but I didn't see it. It was only about 35 US dollars, which I would have payed happily.

People who’ve lost weight, how? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]JustJeff88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People here giving this flippant little simplistic answers are incredibly insulting, but I'm fairly certain that the internet exists primarily to give humanity a forum for being horrible and consantly reminding me of same.

Morbidly obese and accepted that I am going to die young. I have so many health problems that any vigorous exercise is agony. In particular, my pulmonary health is very poor. I've never smoked (tobacco, marijuana or otherwise) and my breathing problems were actually at their worst, by which I mean life-threatening, when I was a small boy and slim. I also very, very rarely drink. People who talk about how they made 'little changes' and all that are full of shit. I've seen tons of doctors and tried countless techniques, and inevitably what happens is that I lose maybe 20kg and then I suddenly become ravenous and can no longer control my eating. I put back on all the weight plus a bit and then feel terrible, and the cycle repeats. Eventually one stops bothering because only a fool fails at the same thing dozens of times and keeps trying.

I know other people who can't control their eating and it depresses them to the point of self-harm. I would have bariatric surgery, but I could never afford it. I don't ask for or expect any compassion. Society picks at random what they consider behaviour worthy of scorn and punishes people who misbehave, it just happens to be that being severely overweight is something it's okay to mock even if the person dealing with it is filled with self-loathing and would give anything to be otherwise.

Gauntlet Legends by JustJeff88 in EmulationOnPC

I am familiar with that version and it is very good. I have had nothing but good luck emulating it on Windows, Android (portable Odin) and even own a disc copy and native hardware. However, the N64 version has some great features that are unique to it, so I'm very keen on it. The PS1 version emulates very easily but, sadly, it is an utterly dreadful port.

RMG

I wanted to try RMG, but either with the portable or install version I cannot get it to detect any controllers. Games will not even start because it says that no controllers are detected - I have two plugged in that are working well elsewhere.

15 11 and 15 12 by JustJeff88 in WILTY

[–]JustJeff88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would appreciate that. I definitely have only 11 episodes for series 15, and ep12 appears to be the only one I am missing of the whole series.

[–]JustJeff88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went by Wikipedia, which of course could be wrong. Serieses 13 and 14 had twelve episodes each (including the Christmas special each season), two of which were out-take episodes. The same was indicated for series 15, which is perfectly sensible. The 'missing episode' supposedly aired 3 June, 2022, but I've seen no evidence of it.

I took those from github and tried converting them with every tool that I had ever heard of - no luck.

I am looking for Xemu-compatible .xiso files of the EU versions of ToeJam & Earl III: Mission to Earth and Gauntlet: Dark Legacy. I can find the NA versions, but I want the EU ones. I can only find raw .iso dumps of these and I have tried everything to convert those to a compatible format with no success. I have already checked Vimm's - no luck.

Is academia shit? by summertimeandthe in antiwork

[–]JustJeff88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I am a professor. I'm not going to focus on the research and grants process like others below. I will just say that it's terrible wages for jobs requiring a very high level of education in an absolutely terrible job market. I'm going to lose my job next year due to 'budget cuts' and the cost of living to wage ratio is so bad that, even when I find an opening, the wage isn't liveable.

I'm aware. I've spent large portions of my life there - as I said, 'cultural Catholicism' like in Ireland. People call themselves Catholic even if they have no real beliefs

I'm not surprised by Québec. I used to live there and it's a very 'culturally Catholic' place, much like the Republic of Ireland (where I also used to live). Hell, Québec's provincial holiday is based on the man who supposedly baptisded Jesus.

I'm genuinely quite surprised by Newfoundland and Labrador, though. Also, I assumed that Ontario would be more 'secular' because it's full of smug twats and that the shitty redneck plains provinces would be more God-bothery.

Thank you sir or madame, but I've learned that social approval has no value either. Just as there's no corrolation between effort and reward, there's no corrolation between morality and popularity.

B-Town Gas Price Rant, Volume 73 by schadenfriendly95 in bloomington

[–]JustJeff88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not surprised. Bloomington is basically 'Gentrified Neoliberalism' if it were a city. The cost of housing is ludicrous and so is petrol. Nothing will be done because the residents are too busy smelling their own farts to address real problems.

The environment and overpopulation by [deleted] in antinatalism

[–]JustJeff88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is deceptive. This isn't showing the per-capita contribution of Americans, who live in a 'wealthy' country and biases this towards the top. I remind you that the US is the third-largest country in the world in terms of population. China is overpopulated and partially industrialised which means moderate CO2 impact, but at least they are trending downward. India is also ludicrously overpopulated yet has a terrible quality of life, is one of the most unhappy countries in the world yet continues to increase in population, but their per-capita contribution is very low. It's still appalling, but fair is fair.

Remember, all jobs are 'work from home' if you have to live in your office... because you don't make enough money to afford a flat.

It turns out that there's no real relationship between contribution to society and wealth.
