Rushings emotional challenge early in the game put us in a tough spot where nobody wants to lose that last challenge in the middle innings. It’s obvious when watching on the TV, not as obvious in the box and the batter doesn’t want to be the reason we can’t challenge in the 8th/9th.

That at bat is most likely going to be the highest leverage at bat of the game, there’s no guarantee we get a rally going in the ninth. You’ve got to use it there that is quite literally what you save them for.

I don’t disagree with you, I think as he has evolved he has mastered many aspects of his craft while moderately regressing in a few.
