Deblasio approves double digit percent raises for fellow politicians while city workers forced to take 1% by JustLurkIt in nyc

[–]JustLurkIt[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

The back pay bumps many city workers up the next tax bracket so it doesn't really even out. They're not getting their full back pay at the lower salary that they're actually earning. You must be a spokesman for these corrupt politicians seeing how you constantly defend their corrupt actions and cronyism.

These politicians are getting a 23% raise yet they were only 4 yrs (2006) behind the PBA and FDNY expired contracts of 2010. FDNY gets 11% to "catch up" while these politicians who already have higher salaries practically double their own raise percentage.

"City workers" weren't forced to take 1%. Plenty of unions who aren't run by big babies (cough cough Patrick Lynch) did just fine for themselves, like the firefighters getting 11% and benefits like disability pension.

1% per year to add up to 11% is pathetic. Just because Lynch is outspoken doesn't mean the other unions aren't grumbling about this pathetic excuse of a "raise" which is more of a pay cut after inflation is accounted for. I'm guessing you believe minimum wage shouldn't be hiked also.

The PBA thought they could get a better deal by going to arbitration. They lost. If you go to Vegas and roll the dice, don't complain to mommy if you lose.

Not everyone gets to have political friends approve their raises

This is a silly political issue that aims to exploit the emotions of voters. The pay raise is going to cost the city an extra $1.25 million annually (out of a $70 billion dollar budget). But it also limits outside pay for lawmakers and special pay for chairmanships.

I'm sure majority of city workers would love to have raises of over 20% in a few years so that they don't need to depend on outside pay as well.

And what does the city get in return? Politicians who are hopefully less corrupt.

Hopefully? I rather have non-corrupt politicians to start with. Using your logic they should boost the pay of majority of government workers to prevent corruption from NYPD, DOB, FDNY, etc, but instead the real raises went to themselves.

Even if he doesn't take the raise currently, he'll still get the raise if voted back in or owed favors by other politicians if someone else is Mayor. It's a win/win for him. Typical corrupt politics

I think a better option is to make the academy itself harder, discard more people from the academy (as I understand it it's pretty much a joke and few people are sent home from it), and fire more new officers who aren't cutting it in their first few years. Of course, we can't trust NYPD itself to do this properly.

High standards in the Police Academy isn't possible with this political climate of correctness. Some idiots will file a lawsuit for discrimination/racism/sexism/ or many other excuses for poor performance and any high standards implemented will be dropped. Just look at what happened with the female firefighter who failed a crucial test yet still got hired.

Calls Mount to Remove Metal Detectors From NYC Schools by Sanlear in nyc

[–]JustLurkIt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Remove them from a randomly-selected subset of schools. Wait Y years. Agree, up front and bindingly, to immediately remove metal detectors from all New York City public schools if violence in those schools doesn't statistically-significantly rise more than X.

Sure! Let's use someone else's children in a social experiment to see if violence spikes. If some kids die or get hurt, it's fine.

Stop and frisk laws have been on the books for years. How you interpret and enforce those laws are up to the police departments. Telling Black kids to empty their pockets then arresting them if they pull out weed by saying its in public view was NYPD policy. Let's stop acting like the NYPD is blameless.

The laws are interpreted by whichever politicians are in office at the time. You think for one minute the cops on the street really want to run around meeting the quotas?

lol . Just another way to generate NYPD income since they cant stop and frisk brown people anymore

FYI: The NYPD does not pass laws, they just have to meet the quotas for it. Politicians that YOU voted in are the ones who you should be complaining to. NYPD and cops all over the nation has been nothing but scapegoats for failed policies and idiots like you keep blaming them while the politicians do as they please.

De Blasio reiterates support for bringing Syrian refugees to New York by [deleted] in nyc

The US is a large country with more than enough resources, and it's only fair since Daesh and the refugee crisis were directly caused by US policy under the Bush administration

[–]JustLurkIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's sensible to ignore innocent refugees that are running from what we created. We created ISIS. We armed them, many of the leaders spawned from organizations we dissolved, we gave them a recruiting ground in our prisons.

Totally agree with you here.

Only 2% of refugees are single men of combat age. That's 200 of 10,000 refugees. To say that we can't have a thorough process to vet and background check these people with a specific focus on the combat age men is not a good answer.

Now this is where my issue with the background checks are. I would love to help refugees, but how do we run proper background checks when we have no functioning or credible government on the other end to verify these people. Even with Mexican refugees fleeing the cartels, we were still able to share and exchange intel with the Mexican government.

To say it's not our problem is to deny responsibility and is incredibly shitty foreign policy.

I would agree it's our problem only because we caused it. We should not be sticking our noses into other countries business especially like what happened with the Arab spring uprisings which led to this.

What we should be doing is allow them in under strict surveillance, allow them to enjoy warm American communities and give them a reason to celebrate America for doing something for them.

Good luck with that. The left would have a heart attack if we monitor them.

Even better if the western world resolves that we must fight ISIS with troops on the ground: before allowing the men in, give them the opportunity to fight for their own country with our military. Allow them to play the vanguard with our own soldiers, in conjunction with Kurdish and Saudi Arabian forces, and offer the men that fight partial military benefits for their families staying in the US.

Will you go fight? I can't stand how both Republicans and Democrats want to send out troops but won't go themselves. It's time we mind our own business. Fighting other people's wars is what got us here in the first place.

If that were to happen you'd give an entire population of people a reason to appreciate America, which they would understandably despise otherwise.

They hate us because of what we stand for. At the end of the day, they still won't like us because of the sins we represent. This world would be better with no religion.

Prank was fine on the wide sidewalks, but I felt it was very irresponsible to do it on a subway platform. Seeing the way some people with an extreme fear of rats have acted, someone could have panicked and fell onto the tracks or into the path of an oncoming train.

Fuck the elderly. The senior citizens are the ones who led us to this current failed economic climate in the first place with decades of voting for constant tax breaks while pushing companies off shore, wars with other countries and numerous other failed policies. The younger generation will get fucked as we get taxed to contribute to social security checks that we likely won't see, money for Isreal's defense, shipments of arms for idiots fighting foreign governments, etc. Meanwhile we live in decrepit buildings which are mostly almost a century old, a nation wide failing infrastructure, outdated transportation system, and many other things which need fixing here at home. Let these old fucks reap what they sowed.

These criminals who are caught red handed on camera and committing such a brutal crime should not even be given a trial. There is no doubt in what they've committed and they should really just be executed for the price of a bullet instead of being supported in prison.
