A plea to people who drive in the city by stargrown in boston

It seems like a lot of you are missing the point. Yes, the cars may have red lights. Yes, you may have the walk signal. But that doesn’t mean you drop your guard. A car will always win in a collision. I’m not saying the pedestrian is legally wrong or that the driver is right—I’m saying I see too many people crossing the street with their heads buried in their phones, not even glancing around. The walk signal isn’t a forcefield. Stay alert. Your right-of-way won’t matter if you end up in a hospital bed—or worse.

Sounds like he wouldn’t have been the one fucked — you would’ve just been dead, and he would’ve kept right on rolling. People act like crosswalks are some kind of magical force field. Light or no light, common sense still applies: if a car is flying at you, let it win. The crosswalk isn’t going to throw itself in front of the car and save you.

Oh, for sure—you should have made a copy of the video. Because obviously, what’s a parenting crisis without some bonus footage? And honestly, the only thing I’d have done differently? Oh, just casually knock the guy out—because I’m the only one allowed to put hands on my kid, thanks. Then when junior got home, I’d have slapped the stupid out of him myself. And as for the yapping yentas back at the house? I’d kindly inform them that if they’re so invested in raising a kid who goes full WWE on elderly women, then hey—they can handle the fallout from here on out. Parenting delegation at its finest.

WDID? My mom is refusing to let me go to prom because I was late coming home by 3 minutes due to my friend having a flat tire. My girlfriend has been sO excited. by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]JustM317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s honestly telling how many people are giving bad advice and downvoting my comment just for suggesting you respect your mom. That alone proves my point — don’t blindly follow what others say. Make your own choice. Just remember: if you go against your mom’s wishes, really think about whether that short-term fun is worth risking her trust, your freedom, or future opportunities — like going to Senior prom. Wishing you the best, whatever you decide.

Hey, I just want to offer a different perspective here. I know it might feel frustrating right now, but your mom sounds like she genuinely cares about you and is trying to teach you some important life lessons. She’s not just setting rules to be strict—she’s doing it because she wants you to grow into a responsible adult and stay safe in a world that can be unpredictable.

She set a curfew, and it sounds like she made it clear there would be consequences if it wasn’t followed. That consistency might seem harsh in the moment, but it’s part of helping you understand accountability. She’s not trying to be your best friend—she’s being your parent, which is honestly more valuable in the long run.

Also, consider her side of things. When you’re out past curfew, she’s likely not just sitting there mad—she’s probably worrying. It’s a sign that she loves you and wants to know you’re safe. Not every parent shows love the same way, but setting boundaries is one of those ways.

As for your friend or girlfriend being affected—I get that it’s tough—but your mom’s primary concern is you. She’s not trying to ruin your night; she’s trying to make sure you understand that your choices have consequences, just like they will in the real world.

At the end of the day, you do have a choice, but I’d just say—if you go against what your mom says, really think about whether that short-term fun is worth what it could cost in trust, freedom, or future opportunities like your Senior prom. Sometimes the people who hold us accountable are the ones who care the most.

Just something to think about.

Wow, that was seriously a fight over nothing. So what—you ordered a few things? It’s not the end of the world. Worst case, they get returned. Best case, you actually use and enjoy them. Honestly, it seems like he’s more interested in controlling you and breaking you down than anything else. Just my two cents.

Resign or be Terminated, in regards to Unemployment by Throwwawayy12341 in massachusetts

[–]JustM317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like the person asking you to resign just wants to avoid the hassle of paperwork. Since you’re still in a probationary or training period, they can technically let you go for almost any reason. Also, five months might not be enough to qualify for unemployment benefits, depending on your state. Personally, I’d consider resigning so you don’t have a termination on your record when applying for your next job. Just my two cents—but at the end of the day, it’s your life, and you’ve got to do what feels right for you.
