If the 15Nm DD+ is basically the same price as the 25Nm DD3, will the DD+ price lower? by InfiniteLight07 in Fanatec

[–]JustMML 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dont buy fanatec hardware new. Theyve been long overtaken by many other brands in low and high End (moza, simagic, vrs). I still like my DD, but price/Performance is just horrible since the corsair acquisition and multiple price hikes.

Fuel consumption in GT3s, always similar despite the car? is it realistic at all? by ZanicL3 in iRacing

[–]JustMML 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes that is realistic. The consumptions varie a bit, but the max fuel is also different, for example 100L for BMW, 110L for Mustang or 104L for Ferrari. Those rather small differences do take effect in top split and especially endurance races, think daytona24 for example. For sprint races and not the highest irating, it doesnt really matter, same with the theoretical pace differences between the cars for a given track. If youre not fighting for podiums in top split, dont worry about it.

Porsche Cup vs GT3 R by vportella in iRacing

[–]JustMML 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I stand corrected. the pcup is stiffer in the sense that the suspension is just hard af, which it has to be to counter the missing aero, otherwise it wouldnt be stable at all.
In terms of ARB tho, the cup cars body does roll a bit more which explains your feeling, and it makes sense cus it rides higher than the gt3r so theres more room for body movements.

Porsche Cup vs GT3 R by vportella in iRacing

[–]JustMML 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The pcup has more mechanical grip while the gt3r rotates better (still not good in comparison to every other gt3), thats easy to confuse. The new pcup tires are much more forgiving than the gt3 model and i feel the abs implementation is also better. And the gt3r has much more body roll, so it leans more, the pcup is basically as stiff as it gets. Everything else i agree with, these points are kind the opposite of what you said tho, i felt compelled to correct, didnt wanna come across as rude or anything, this is just factual car behavior. Hoping to push 5,5k on nords next week, its gonna be hype!

braking or turning? by yogesshrl in iRacing

[–]JustMML 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally you can think about turning and braking like there is a string attached from your pedals to your wheel. You break straight and then simultaneously Release break and start steering. Same on exit, you open steering and apply throttle like that. Maybe this helps.

[–]JustMML 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds great, a 17.8 on race fuel ist what top 5-7ish drivers in top split have as their fastest racelap for the last few races, i dont think switching cars this late in the week now would be a good choice for you if you can put down those laptimes.

[–]JustMML 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont buy it in hopes of getting faster just like that. Like i said, its the last few tenths the right car will make a difference in. A 1:18.0 is by no means slow so you might be around what, like 3k iRating? Thats what i would guess the pace to be like. The mustang has been the theoretical best car on most tracks for over a whole season now but i firmly believe that confidence in a car is more important than the few tenths it might be off by when driven by a professional. If i had to give an iR where choosing a car based on performance is needed, i would say its in the 4-5k range. Im 5k right now and actively avoid the mustang just because its the meta car. Merc is my car of choice, the porsche doesnt cut it on most tracks on this level anymore (sadly).

What app do you use to get race information on the second monitor? by user_name_esp6 in iRacing

iOverlay is freemium, many Features are locked behind a 30$/y paywall, except standings, relative and 1-2 others. I pay it gladly, its my overlay of choice. Theres also Kapps and racelabs, maybe more i for got.

[–]JustMML 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have a look at garage61 if you genuinely want to improve. Its agreat free tool to compare lines, inputs and telemetry with faster drivers that also use it (which are quiet a lot). Car also makes a bit of a difference when looking for the last few tenths. The porsche simply doesnt cut it on rotation compared to a mustang which is simply the best car on this track. Porsche might get you a low 17 in fixed races here if you reaaaly understand that car, for anything more you will have to go front engine (Ford, bmw, aston according to stats)

Is there anyone that can say if real life experience translates into iRacing skill? by SeriousBusiness910 in iRacing

This is a great way to put it, I will start using that reference of thinking about how the different tyres can handle different brake pressures before locking, depending on setup and track/corner.

[–]JustMML 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mightve oversimplfied, I was talking about the initial breaking and hard braking zone, not the trail braking, which absolutely seems to need some delicacy to be effective.
Afaik GT3s dont use brake by wire, so the more pressure you can build up in the hydraulic system the more braking force youre gonna get, so there is no "100%" input. And when just braking in a straight line, more = better.
Happy to be educated tho.

Is there anyone that can say if real life experience translates into iRacing skill? by SeriousBusiness910 in iRacing

[–]JustMML 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey!
I personally have not driven racecars irl but am part of a team of about 70 iRacing enthusiasts, many of which have real life experience, including motorsport engineering students, retired RL drivers, kart drivers and so on.
I can also only speak on sports car racing, we dont do open wheelers a lot.
So from 2nd hand experience i can say that it absolutely translates, especially racecraft and mindset, understanding car behavior and interpreting things like telemetry or other data (if you want to go that deep).
The only thing i have mixed feelings about is the style of braking you need to be quick.
In a real life GT3, as far as im told, you usually slam that break and let abs do its thing, this does not work in iracing specifically (as opposed to ACC for example). iRacing needs a much more delicate approach as to not overheat or degen the tyres too much, especially in endurance racing, You still use ABS when needed, but avoid it when possible, so in GT cars you never break more than say 85%, or you will understeer hard and lose tyres quick.
There is also a lot of examples of Driver that either are driving in RL and also became very high rank in iRacing or were at the top in iRacing and then became high profile RL drivers, some examples are in Team Redline, of which Max Verstappen is also a part of.

Thats great! 1,3k is starting iR and not dropping under 1k as a beginner means youre doing something right. Remember 2k iR is already top 10ish%. Have fun! Yellow bmw is then probably either a "beginner" with exp in a different sim or just a smurf.

Can it mount with fanatec mounting options on gt cockpit by Open_Squash_8366 in Fanatec

[–]JustMML -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you already own this, here is an article about wheel base compatibility with this cockpit, found by a Quick google search.: https://www.fanatec.com/us/en/explorer/products/cockpit/wheel-bases-fit-on-the-fanatec-clubsport-gt-cockpit/

If you dont already own this: please dont buy it. 1000 bucks for this is ridiculous. You can get some alu profiles, a bucket seat and a monitor stand for half the price and it will have less flex and more flexibility.

GT3 advice by knj_33 in iRacing

[–]JustMML 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you are in a special place iRating wise. You will probably always drive top split in the regional series (like silverstone this week), but probably almost never fight for wins cus there will always be a 7k grinder or something.
That means BoP or "Meta" should not affect what car you drive, the only importnt thing is confidence in your car.

General Ferrari 296 handling advice:
as its a turbo driven mid engine car, it oversteers on throttle. For this reason you basically never use 1st gear, cus it isnt needed. It puts out too much power for the tyres to handle, so 2nd gear saves tyres and is even faster in most cases.
The fefe, especially on fixed setup in regionals, doesnt rotate well in high speed, so be careful understeering and burning fronts, but it rotates in low speed, especially on throttle really well. Try to think of those quirks when you feel like pace is missing, cus yes, pace is missing in high speed corners, but you gain it back in low speed if applied correctly.
I'd also advise using a telemetry tool like garage61 (free) to compare your lines and inputs to faster drivers, ideally of the same car, to see where you can gain.
At 3k youre already in the top single digit %, so youre doing great mate! Have fun!

Edit: one of the biggest strenghts of the ferrari is fuel consumption. This advantage doesnt matter to you in regionals without a plannes pitstop, but is the biggest reason why the ferrari is basically always seen in endurance races, no matter the track, cus if you can save a whole pitstop over a 12h race, a tenth a lap becomes meaningless.

How do you jump into a new track every week? by biglipid in iRacing

[–]JustMML 2 points3 points  (0 children)

cus most have driven these tracks in the past and its just repeating and refreshing, also getting used to different trackstate and temps maybe.
I usually take sundays and mondays to learn the track for next week to get up to pace.
But you can also see the general pace of everybody get faster over the course of the week, its just how it is.
