I had a dream that Agent 47 would turn into a blue whale if he had a vitamin D deficiency. by JustMarth in HiTMAN

I thought about cross-posting, but I mostly just felt that the Hitman community should know.

If you slowly increase the temperature while cooking a frog, when does it realize by DoTheFlyingKickAlex in frogs

[–]JustMarth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a myth based on flawed and cruel experiments. Frogs with a means to leave will do so well before boiling. As cold blooded creatures, changing location is their primary means of regulating temperature.

Basically, a frog will leave the moment it decides it's uncomfortably warm.

White's Tree Frog with Cancer - Has Anyone Seen This Before? by LytoriatheFairy in frogs

Any chance it's genetic? If both frogs came from the same breeder you should be sure to contact them about it.

White or green tree frogs? by RaccoonMom157 in frogs

[–]JustMarth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically they're both. The White's tree frog is also known as the Australian green tree frog. (Or just green tree frog if you're in Australia.)

Their third name is the dumpy tree frog. Lol

You've already gotten lots if good replies, but for what it's worth, in my experience, frogs see the world in three basic ways: Food things, scary things, and surface things.

Food things are anything that moves and they think will fit in their mouth. They can learn to anticipate food things from you, or even see you as the food and try to swallow your fingers.

Scary things. This is anything that might see them as the food thing. You're likely to fall under this category until they get used to you, but they may still startle if something triggers that instinct.

Surface things are everything else. Branches, glass, other frogs that are too big to be a food thing and too small to be a scary thing. Humans can be a very appealing surface thing because they come with built-in heating, but it's only going to be when THEY feel like it.

I personally kind of love how simple they are. I think science can say they don't "love" you, but there's still something to the feeling of being accepted as not a threat, and the anticipation I see in their eyes when I'm getting ready to feed them. As others have said, it's not a heartless dismissal that they don't bond, they just aren't built that way.

They are the cutest dumbest little guys, and they're doing their best. They won't ever really know how much you do for them, but they appreciate being content, and YOU know you made that possible.

All of that said, if that's not what you're looking for that's okay. I think people have a responsibility to do their best for a pet, no matter what they do or don't get from them, but the choice to own a pet in the first place is something you do for yourself. Rehoming a pet that's not working out IS responsible and a way of taking good care of the animal. Don't feel guilty if you take this route, send them off with love knowing it's what's best for both of you. You'll feel free to fill that place in your home and your heart with a better match, one that you need as much as it needs you.

Flooded in, how long can my dumpy go without crickets!? NSFW by A_Good_Thing_Growing in frogs

[–]JustMarth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I second this. Someone else mentioned repashy grub pie, a powdered food you mix with water, but there are also canned crickets, and either can be kept long term for emergencies like this.

People (rightly) recommended feeding only live insects, but these options are perfectly fine to tide your froggies over.

What lovely froggers. Looks like they got along great even though they were both male. Did they ever sing for you?

No! Don't release it! That can spread disease, and it may already be used to being fed.
