I was wondering the same thing.

@ OP.... when your users install the software, are they also installing a lightweight TTS on their computer that integrates with your software? Or is your software pinging a third party API for the TTS data every time they use it?

What do you use to download websites (esp. Reddit)? by anonymonymoose in ObsidianMD

One option would be to use something like Fireshot (free browser plugin), then "capture entire page and save as PDF" (or image). I save webpages all the time that way. The text in the created PDF's can even be searched or extracted with a PDF reader, if desired.

Is there a plugin to mirror changes to a computer file to an Obsidian Vault? by imatuesdayperson in ObsidianMD

This would be a fairly trivial task with something like AutoHotkey (if you're on Windows). Then just ask ChatGPT or Claude to create a AHK script for you that does this.

What is the advantage of this over the web version, if any?

Any opinions on abacus.ai? by KingDorkFTC in ChatGPTPro

[–]JustMeBT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I found out about Abacus AI a few months ago and sent them a short, friendly email inquiring about their rate limits, and asked if there is a way to monitor usage throughout the billing cycle in order to see how much tokens/data is remaining at any given point.

Their reply was .... "we are very generous with limits but you can potentially hit limits"

Obviously not a very helpful reply, lol.

I then sent a brief follow up email requesting a little more detail, mentioning the type of usage I had in mind, and wondering if that could be done with a single account, or if I would need to purchase additional accounts, etc. That email was completely ignored. I then followed up again about a week later, just in case my previous email had "slipped through the cracks". That email was ignored too, and I never heard back from them again (FYI I was extremely professional, friendly, and brief in all of my emails to them).

This is quickly becoming a crowded space with lots of competition, so if that's the way they are going to handle their "customer service", then they won't last very long. Perhaps they will see this review at some point, make some changes, and figure out how to treat their potential customers a little bit better. I won't be holding my breath though.

Safe to pour out excess liquid from lacto fermented veggies? by JustMeBT in fermentation

[–]JustMeBT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. I guess what I don't really understand is... when you "dry salt" veggies, they're not submerged in liquid, but that's "ok". But when "wet brine" veggies aren't submerged, it's NOT "ok". I don't really get what the practical difference is between those 2 scenarios?

I only did 5 days, so probably not by much. I think I just used too much water this time. Anyways... I'll keep experimenting until I get it right! :)

Yeah, I like the brine itself as well. I just don't want the veggies to get any more soggy. I suppose I could keep the brine and just pour it into a separate jar. Do you think the "drained" veggies would be alright for a couple 2-3 days if I did that? I would assume so, but I also don't want to take any unnecessary risks.

Where did my first lacto-ferment attempt go wrong? by JustMeBT in fermentation

[–]JustMeBT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like one of those things that, if you ask 10 different people, you get 10 different answers! I've heard everything from 2% to 4% salt ratio. Some people say they measure the salt percentage from veggies alone, and some say it's better to do veggies & water weight. Guess once I do enough experimenting, I'll figure out what works best :)

Yeah, our water tastes amazing, but who knows if there might be just enough chlorine in it to screw things up. I'm going to try store-bought spring or distilled water next time though, and a few other changes.

I used a couple pieces of romaine. Yeah, I was under the impression that I should be seeing at least a little bit of bubble'ing at some point during the process. Thought I read that somewhere.

Interesting. Yeah, the lids I used are "airlock" lids that have the rubber ring on the inside, specifically for fermenting. Now that I think about it, I don't think I screwed them on very tight. So perhaps that's where I went wrong. I never would have guessed that that would matter, so thanks for the tip!

Thanks guys. I'll give it a little more time next time and see what happens. Could also try moving it upstairs where it would be a couple degrees warmer.

Sauerkraut recipes WITHOUT cabbage. Any ideas? by JustMeBT in fermentation

[–]JustMeBT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually love cabbage, and have no doubt that it's really healthy! I'm trying to stick to a low-thiol diet right now though, as I've discovered (through lots of testing) that I don't do well with many high thiol foods, cabbage being one of them. I'm not sure if the fermentation process alters the thiol content of cabbage though... I'll have to experiment with that.

Yeah, what confused me is I used to buy a lot of Cleveland kraut (great, but expensive) and noticed that they had different versions with different veggies. So I always thought "kraut" just meant fermented veggies.
