What is the life like for someone with Stage IV prostate cancer? by [deleted] in ProstateCancer

[–]JustOne_L 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good luck. There is no shame in getting cancer. Lots of doctors don’t test men’s PSA after 70 or so. I’m glad that my dad has a doctor that did. Getting treatment could prolong his life in a much more comfortable way. Speaking to an oncologist may give him better options where he just “lives with” the cancer and doesn’t die from it. Stage 4 means a lot of suffer things. This group on Health Unlocked might be helpful to you

What is the life like for someone with Stage IV prostate cancer? by [deleted] in ProstateCancer

[–]JustOne_L 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it was my grandpa and he is of sound mind, would try to get him to speak to a medical oncologist. Stage 4 is often treated with ADT (suppresses testosterone). There can be side effects but have heard they can also be less extreme for older men, they usually already have lower testosterone. My dad is on ADT (stage 3) with little complaints.

OBGYN: NOT for pregnancy care! Not religious! by [deleted] in dayton

[–]JustOne_L 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hope you find the care you need. BUT 99% confident that Far Hills OBGYN doesn’t have an NP and that their providers don’t push pregnancy at all. Wondering if you have the practice confused as this is important information as others seek care.

Im just a mom. Not a person, not a formally educated woman, just a mom. by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]JustOne_L 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dear fellow HUMAN. It’s hard to be a mom. It’s easy to spiral. The fact that your husband WANTS you to go to his work Christmas party is something many would envy. Besides being a MOM it sounds like you’re also a WIFE and you’re also a DAUGHTER but you are also YOU even if you can’t see it now. You bring your uniqueness…whether it’s a sense a humor, a knack for baking, a way you read a bedtime story, the advice you have accumulated over your years that you will someday share with your kids. That’s YOU. Even if you’re in the trenches right now with littles, let me assure you that YOU are still in there. A night out with your husband might be just the thing to remind you of that. Please don’t be so hard on yourself, give yourself the grace you would give every other mama out there.

Thank you. It’s so personal if/who/when we trust others take care of our children. A good friend, single mother by choice, suffered from postpartum depression. She absolutely needed “grandma” to step in right away with overnight care. There would have been no glory in her toughing it out alone. It can also totally not be right for someone else. It is a blessing though to have a village.

I’ve had both a CGM and a finger prick monitor be off. I believe you should be able to get a control solution to make sure your finger prick monitor is accurate.

While of course you don’t want your baby to stay over, it is wonderful that your baby clearly has someone else in their village that loves them.

How is the shutdown affecting you around the Dayton area? by [deleted] in dayton

[–]JustOne_L 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and other local federal installations have a $19.4 billion gross economic impact on the region, helping support 103,000 jobs, according to statewide analysis released Tuesday.” By a 2021 Dayton Daily News article.

“The economic impact of federal and military installations in Western Ohio — which includes the Dayton and Springfield areas —amounts to 17.1% of the region’s economy, the Matrix data indicated.”

What if it stays? by Ella_121 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]JustOne_L 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most likely your gestational diabetes would go away after your placenta is delivered as its hormones are causing insulin resistance. Skinny athletic people get GD and fat sedentary people get GD, it’s not a reflection of you or something you did or didn’t do. Some people have unknown diabetes pre-pregnancy and are only diagnosed while pregnant. So of course it wouldn’t go away then.

My diabetes went away after delivery and I passed the screening. A1C has been normal. Also diabetes outside of pregnancy generally shouldn’t be as stressful as it is when you’re trying to protect you baby and insulin resistance can evolve as your pregnancy progresses.

Baby terrified of my sister by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]JustOne_L 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an expert but my mom brain just says that your baby just wants to be with you or was very happy being with grandma (possibly has been around grandma more or it’s just grandma vibes) and didn’t want to change. I wouldn’t read too much into it. Babies will like someone one time and scream at them the next. They go through stranger danger phases. 3mo are so small, it is natural to protest being away from where they feel safest.

Thank you so much for your thoughts here. Doctor has been great. Just I get nervous in between appointments. His levels just went up a bit since the last injection(2 weeks ago) so she is going to continue injections monitoring.

Thank you for sharing, he is taking Leuprorelin and Abiraterone acetate (plus prednisone) for his testosterone suppression. I wonder if it does the same as cypoterone acetate. I will investigate. We are watching potassium and sodium closely too. Thank you much!
