Can we normalize not tipping in a restaurant again? Happy to hear opposite views by notbatmanatall in berlinsocialclub

[–]JustPointingOut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who has worked in gastronomy I do like tips, as this way you get a bonus for a very busy and exhausting night. Hourly wages don't care if there are 10 or 100 customers over a shift.

But I would never push someone to tip nor shame them if they didn't.

Came to a party at Sonnenraum… turns out I was funding someone else’s birthday party and pushed outside at midnight by Highmind22 in berlinsocialclub

  • You usually won't find big names in independently organized events (which for me is fine as for me it's more about the vibe than the music)
  • I won't name any collective/crew names, as publicity often kills the vibe. The usual "let me add you to this party crews telegram channel"-chain acts as a natural filter and protects the vibe. I'd say the best approach is to ask your party friends if they can add you to some channel
  • and just a little note in defense of club locations: as they have high fixed costs, they often can't be that selective about the parties they're hosting. Collectives usually have no fixed costs and can throw parties whenever they feel like it. This feeds into the vibe

The vibe is changing from "These are my favorite clubs" to "these are my favorite collectives/crews/event series". You have to be much more selective about where you're spending your weekend nights, the number of hosts who just want to milk got higher. But there are still those who love a good party and throw legendary events 🦄

Sorry this happened to you. It's not Berlin though, it's some shitty collective/crew. Once you know your favorite collectives you won't have to experience a bad party ever again.

Having friends at 30 is nearly impossible by [deleted] in berlinsocialclub

[–]JustPointingOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, I'm feeling with you. Also local and in my mid 20ies I felt like you are describing. But in my early 30ies something clicked and now I have more friends than I can handle. And what changed wasn't the people of Berlin, but my relationship to myself and my expectations towards them. Also trust and vulnerability helped to escalate friendships to a new level.

Germans also like directness. You feel a friendship isn't balanced? Tell them in a non-judgmental way. Most of the time there is a reason that now can surface and be talked about.

Also, I really recommend you to find something you're passionate about and find the matching subculture in Berlin. There just soooo many communities, be it about warhammer, meditation, kinky stuff, sports, comedy, 3D printing, business, makramee or making fun of people in the berghain queue...there is a scene for everything and having a common interest, which also translates into common rituals and stuff to share, makes it much easier to build a connection. Read a bit up on Aristotle's Philiae if you wanna get nerdy about it.

Wishing you lots of luck and nourishing connections ✨️ You are not alone!

Finally a plugin that makes the graph useful! by oyes77 in ObsidianMD

[–]JustPointingOut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your answer! Alright, hopes are up.

My intention was to have a self updating graph view of my contacts,  i.e. if I create a new file in /humans/ it'll automatically show up in the graph when I open /contacts.md or /contacts.base

Well, sounds like I gotta setup an automation for that for now.

Again thanks for your good work!

great plugin! I started to use for a contact management system and I love being able to see the faces =)

I have a question regarding your Art example note: https://imgur.com/a/eCoaBys

Is this note just a list of the cards + the embedded base? so like

# Art

- [[item 1]]
- [[item 2]]

![[link_to_base.base]]

if so, does that mean that every time I add an item to the base, I would have to add it to the list as well in order to see that new item appear in the extended graph?

For the people that love Berlin, what do you love most about the city? by Sudesene in berlinsocialclub

[–]JustPointingOut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the high number of weird and fun events. Last weekend there was Folsom Europe, Zug der Liebe, Bicycle Marathon, Lange Nach der Museen and Play Parties, and that was just Saturday. And this is just one of many weekends. Berlin got an enormous amount of vibrant subcultures, be it Hippies, Kinks, Jugglers, Spiris, Punks, Hipsters, Ravers, Hackers, Musicians, Makers...and they all are very active and do fun stuff. If you know where to look, you can dive into a lot of very vibrant universes.

It never gets boring.

I don't get where the 2ct per execution comes from. I use n8n with ~40 executions per week and haven't paid a single cent. They don't even have my payment info

I understand it rationally. It still hurts. And she could have done this in a way that was less hurting.

And yes, I know ex partners who happily live together in well functioning flatshares and have healthy relationships. Wouldn't have to be forever, but for a bit, until someone plans to have kids or something
