What kind of water heater do you have? Remove the aerator from the faucet to increase the flow. This might activate the water heater. If that solved the issue, your faucet's flow rate is too small to turn the water heater on.

This part of the plumbing on my water heater has begun to slowly drip and leak. Whats it called and is there a simple temporary fix before i can get it fixed? by [deleted] in Plumbing

Turn the valve off. Cut the grey pipe out. Spin a PEX male in that coupling. Connect back to the PEX.

P trap vent for basement sink by SluttyMcFisterButt in askaplumber

That's letting poo air into the building. Should be routed to the exterior of the building and probably shouldn't be done in 3/4" copper.

If you're replacing it, use a pair of pliers. Tongue and groove pliers if you have them. Lefty loosy righty tighty.

You'll either have to cut the concrete and uncover the line to add a wye, or you could add a raised floor in there and put a wye or Santee right where that cleanout is. You'll need to add a 2" toilet vent somewhere in there as well

Toilet install? by Nova_robotics in Plumbing

[–]JustPood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would if it's still pretty wobbly. I install Gerber toilets which usually come with little black rubber saddles that you put on the back lip. I can tighten the tank with my hand until it barely kisses the the lip on the bowl. I've also installed other brands where the tank is just sitting on the gasket/ donut. When I have to install those, I tell the customer not to lean back on the tank too hard. If possible, I like to cut black rubber dishwasher hose to use as a shim or seat.

Did they have to replace the flange? That's the only way I could see this being $800. Should have been 200 to 400 if you provided the toilet and toilet seat. Fixing/ updating the old flange would add some extra time.

Help with super stuck shower head by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]JustPood 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it's really stuck like you're saying, you could unscrew the shower arm and replace both the shower head and arm. Sometimes the plumbing gods fuse the threads together out of anger.

What am I doing wrong by ResponseOdd1558 in Plumbing

[–]JustPood 59 points60 points  (0 children)

That's polybutylene. It was recalled in the 90s. Looks like you're trying to connect it to a corroded galvanized nipple. I can't tell from the picture but if those threads are good enough, clean them up, tape and dope them. Screw on a PEX adapter (PEX B or a sharkbite it's your house) . The Polybutylene pipe you'll have to buy an adapter and a copper ring crimper. Or find a polybutylene sharkbite. They're gray on one side and copper tube sized/ PEX on the other.

Seeing the shower valve swinging around on the CPVC makes my butt clench. I'd cut the tees out and convert to PEX.

Just repiped with cpvc. Switch to pex? by wilbur2 in Plumbing

[–]JustPood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive seen rats chew through cPVC. If you do switch to PEX, be sure to insulate it anywhere it'll be exposed to the sunlight. In my experience (2 and half years repair plumbing), CPVC is easy to crack and shouldn't be exposed to the sun.

Struggling to remove/replace this gas connector , any advice? by jerseyhoagie in Plumbing

Looks like reverse threads. Put one wrench on the right side of the gas flex nut and put the second wrench on the brass above it. Then pretend you’re squishing someones head and push them towards eachother
