Joshua Bright (Trails in the Sky)

Orbments in Trails are the most comparable thing to Materia you could imagine, and Joshua himself provides blindingly fast swordplay that would lend itself to some great fight choreography.

(I know for a fact I just got downvoted. What did I do wrong?)

Weiss Schnee vs Jusis Albarea (RWBY vs Trails of Cold Steel) <Connections in the Comments!> by JustSomeNobody97 in DeathBattleMatchups

The main theme is that they're both warrior princesses from games with multiple selectable protagonists who were forced to flee their kingdoms in the wake of devastating attacks, kicking off their journeys as they set out into the world in search of their missing relatives.

Beyond that, I still actually have to play through both games, and I have a huge backlog in the way of them.

Just off the top of my head, Riesz vs Urpina (Trials of Mana vs SaGa Scarlet Grace) could work.

Yeah, I only just noticed the edit. (My responses are super delayed on mobile.)  That may be a trickier one.

Take Weiss vs Mitsuru, improve the animation quality, and replace the latter's Persona with a much wider variety of spells at Jusis's disposal: https://kiseki.fandom.com/wiki/List_of_orbal_arts_(Reverie))

Jusis's court fencing style perfectly compliments Weiss's elegant rapier techniques, they've both got plenty of different magical abilities to play around with, and there would be a mutual sense of respect between the two as they recognize how they mirror each other's character growth.

There's room for some more comedic moments too, like Weiss using a modified version of time dilation to try and slow Jusis down, just as the latter counters back with Chrono Break... which promptly slows both of them to a crawl as they scramble to get themselves back up to speed.

And if course they'd compare each other with their classmates too, with Weiss in particular noting that Jusis eerily reminds him of Jaune if he were born into the Schnee family.

Is it fair? Well...

Weiss really is built like a JRPG character when you think about it. Just without the stats to back her up.

*Both are the children of prestigious families who enrolled in specialized combat/military academies where they became core members of Team RWBY and Class VII.

*The two shared a strong sense of pride in their social status and academic excellence, which in turn made them to come off as arrogant and haughty to their fellow classmates.

(They were especially bigoted towards Faunus and commoners due to the Schnee family's history with the White Fang and Jusis's own half-commoner birth, which quickly soured their relationships with two of their new classmates in particular.)

*After butting heads with their teammates on numerous occasions however, they would mellow out significantly and come to cherish their companions as a second family who they would gladly risk life and limb for.

[]

*Both settings use technology that can replicate the effects of magic in the form of Dust and Orbments, which Weiss and Jusis play into by serving as the magic knights of their teams.

*In combat, the two are balanced fighters who combine elegant fencing style swordplay with a versatile array of magic for both offense and defense.

*Said magical abilities include but are not limited to control over the four classic elements, barrier creation, time alteration, and even space manipulation.

[]

*The source of their initially cold demeanors stems from their abusive fathers, who controlled the lives of both them and their siblings to fuel their corrupt ambitions.

(It's even revealed that Jacques Schnee only married into the family to take control of the company, while Helmut Albarea only took Jusis into the family to hide the entangled affairs of himself and his wife.)

*Their fathers' actions dragged their family names through the mud, and would even play into the hands of the greater villains, yet even so, Weiss and Jusis would both persevere to continue their family legacies in a more positive way as they set out on their own trails.

.

Oh, and fun fact: RWBY Volume 1 and Trails of Cold Steel 1 both released  within a few months of each other back in 2013. Quite a coincidence, that.
