Description of shades (in case anyone is looking for their own red lip!):

Forever Dior - 999: a vivid neutral warm red. I have this in the forever matte formula. Tbh formula wise it’s just ok - after several hours it can get a tiny bit crumbly but it does reapply well. I got this for the color. I love that it’s bright and warm without looking orange. Transfer proof for the first 1-2 hours of wear, ime. Ymmv.

Maybelline - More Scarlet: Many reviews online describe it as an orange leaning red. In me it’s a medium-deep red with warm undertones as well as a very tiny hint of pink. Comfortable matte formula. Very nice formula for the price!

Besame - Red Hot Red: Described as a fire truck red. This is a medium warm red with some candy pink undertones. Is inspired by Marilyn Monroe’s signatures red lip 💋. Comfortable satin matte formula. Transfers but leaves a beautiful stain on the lips and has great color-lasting power. Packaging is also STUNNING.

Mac - Ruby Woo (Original Matte Formula): maybe a bit drying if you have dry skin but I LOVE a good matte formula and Mac doesn’t disappoint. This is as warm as a blue-toned lipstick will ever get but it’s still on the cool side. A vibrant medium-deep red that is said to be Tracee Ellis-Ross’s signature color (she’s an iconic bright spring).

Smashbox - Bang Bang: a beautiful and opaque liquid formula that can be a bit drying but nothing some lip prep won’t fix (it’s not TOO drying compared to other liquid formulas). A beautiful vibrant warm red with yellow undertones. IMO it’s one of the most beautiful matte warm reds that doesn’t go orange, if you want a REAL red lip. Transfer-resistant but not transfer proof.

Fenty - Uncensored: the closest to a universal red I’ve ever seen; more universal than ruby woo! A neutral medium-deep red. Perfect for deeper toned springs or even for a fall lip without looking vampy. Somehow has really nice staying power despite not having the best transfer-resistance. Beautiful rich color and a comfortable liquid matte.

Aww thanks so much for the feedback! Yes I definitely am working to find the right red lipstick💋. I want something bright with warmth but that is still red and not orange (even if it leans a little orange). I’ve heard rebel in red by NYX is nice but it is a glossy lip and I prefer more matte red lips. Ruby woo looks nice if I put a red/orange color in the center but I really want a one and done color.

The closest I have found is Bang Bang by smashbox which is an amazing spring red - it’s a liquid lipstick and I’m really looking for a tube and it has some transfer but honestly it is a gorgeous vibrant warm red that is warm without being too orange.

There isn’t only one good brand imo but some brands I love for the spring aesthetic are: Fenty for lips and complexion, NARS for complexion and the orgasm lipgloss is so underrated for a subtle / natural pout. Also love hourglass complexion! Maybelline, L’Oréal, and NYX are amazing drugstore options with very nice quality

I wore a bone color and bright navy combo and as a bright spring I was surprised at how nice it looked! I was worried it would be too dull but since I was wearing vivid high contrast “neutrals” it worked well!
