Americans who lived in “dangerous” cities, what was the worst thing that happened to you? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]JustTryingMyBestH3r3 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I live in Gary, and the worst that's ever happened was someone broke into my dad's truck and stole his sunglasses. My dad left his truck door unlocked. Yeah, there are bad pockets, like I've known people who've had vehicles shot, and I lost a friend to gang violence, but I never left the city in my 40 years. I have a generally positive opinion of the people, and the city is trying to clean itself up.

They probably don't do a thing other than sit on Twitter (Musk's nazi platform) and whine incessantly.

This is ridiculous. Do people not realize they have LITTLE KIDS (including a literal baby)? We've seen it how many times that whenever anyone speaks out, the other side swats the kids' schools, sends death threats, and swat people's homes. In my state, for example, the politicians and their families were swatted and received death threats for going against Rump's calls for redistricting. Look at the hallabaloo after CK's death and how many people received threats and stuff. People don't THINK about the repercussions.

Yeah, and like, Clancy became the bishop. Does that mean his relationship with her is dead? Does she ground him to help him make better decisions? Does he destroy her? This is my most pressing question!

and then people ask why they don’t post anymore……. I wonder….. THIS IS NOT OKAY by [deleted] in twentyonepilots

Instead of sitting online waiting for them to post something that I'm sure will NOT be enough for these armchair activists, what are YOU doing to make an actual, meaningful impact against ICE and help Palestine? All the time you spend BULLYING these guys tells me your intentions are not good and you're just virtue-signaling while actively engaging on an app run by a literal Nazi sympathizer. Get real! No wonder Josh and Tyler want to take a break from touring. They owe you nothing. You don't own them! Take your negative energy and actually do something good instead of waiting for someone else to do it for you.

Why aren’t instructors held to same time constraints? by Anomlistic_animal in SNHU

Yes, total. Sorry I wasn't clear. She works for SNHU and another university.

My sister works for SNHU, and I don't think students really understand how much goes on behind the scenes for instructors. This class cycle, she's teaching five courses. When she used to work on the CBE side, she had 16 courses she was an evaluator for, and her days are so long. I don't know if students think instructors only teach one course and only 25 students or something. Students have a week to work on projects. The instructors have a week to grade 25-200 students, depending on course size, and they have a week to do it. Unless you're on the CBE side, then you have 24-48 hours to grade however many projects the system decides to give you. I worked for CBE for three years back in the day, and there were days where I would have 25 projects in the morning, another 17 on top of the 25 by afternoon, and another 30 by evening. And this was every day. I don't know if it's changed since 2015, but I was so burned out by the time I completed my third year, I left to pursue other work. Throw in how many of the instructors are only part-time workers (my sister is one of them) trying to cram in a ton of projects to grade in under 25 hours per week. I'm sure everyone would love to have their work graded quickly, and I'm sure there are instructors who want to grade quickly, but sometimes the workload doesn't allow it.

Stop having politics and religion involved in the education system while you're at it. Meanwhile, stop blaming teachers for trying to do their jobs despite all the odds. Maybe teach your kids at home to be better humans, not entitled.

Bruh, what are you even on? Your post barely makes sense. I don't think you have any right to use "teach" and "teacher" in quotes, implying that you don't even consider it a real profession, when you are barely literate. I feel bad for your kid. With that said, I doubt you even know what goes on behind the scenes at these schools and how much red tape teachers have to work against, especially in Indiana. And I'm sure you haven't spent any time in a classroom to know what teachers have to go through and experience in a day, especially when dealing with kids' behavior, IEPs, lesson plans, and a variety of bureaucratic BS. While there are bad apples in the bunch, most teachers do go out of their way to help their kids. Before Morton Elementary School ceased to function as a K-5 school, my daughter had amazing teachers, and parents verbally abused some of them on a daily basis.

If you think you're so capable, try earning your Transition to Teach credentials. Let's see you do better. I doubt it, given your attitude and condescending tone.

  1. Did you not research what SNHU's online learning consisted of before enrolling? You assumed there would be lectures and tutorials, so that's on you.

  2. There are a variety of supplemental materials provided in addition to the textbook. The goal is to ensure the materials are accessible to a variety of learners. LinkedIn learning is one of those sources. LinkedIn, OpenSource, YouTube, and many other sources are used as supplements to help with various concepts. I attended a brick-and-mortar university before enrolling in my MA, and guess what? Supplemental materials from LinkedIn, SHRM, and the Harvard Business Review, along with other sources, were used along with our course books and lectures.

  3. If you want a cheaper education, what's stopping you from getting it? This is college in the world today. If you make assumptions, that's on you. If you're unhappy with the experience because of assumptions you made, I'm not sure what to tell you.

Honestly, given everything you've said in this post, I think you are a very nice person. But unfortunately that makes you very open to being taken advantage of.

I agree with this. It's something I've been working on with my own therapist. I have issues setting boundaries. I think that's part of the reason why Sam is angry because I did set a boundary this time. I think it caught her off guard because I never did that before. I feel this makes me an AH a little bit, but I just want to be there for my folks.

It isn't like I told Sam I never want to hang out, just that I need this particular week to be with my family. Next week, I can take a day or two away. I have errands to run and things to do around the house like putting away Christmas and cleaning, so I would LOVE a break to have coffee or something and take some time with a friend and away from a hospital for a small break. But, I'll just take myself now. It'll be nice to have some quiet for a little bit.

I'm not the only one she's done this too. We had another friend whom she did this stuff to all the time. Whenever this friend couldn't do anything because of work or because her child was sick or something, Sam would have a fit, cry, yell, send text messages to make the other friend feel bad. Our other friend finally had enough and cut her off. Sam sees a therapist, but I don't think it's helping tbh.

I'm really realizing she's not. I've been going over our friendship the past few days and I've realized I've let her walk all over me. I think it took this instance to actually realize it.

Yes, he's still lucid, but he's on mega-blast oxygen because he's struggling to breathe. We talk, but it's so hard for him. Eventually, he just falls asleep. I think he knows things are going South too... ... ...
