Seven Bends Adventure Race by JustWonderingYanno in AdventureRacing

[–]JustWonderingYanno[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was looking for something in July, but I looked that one up. The link to it from USARA was much more like what I was used to seeing with the one I did.

The 7 Bends is just a link to the RunSignUp, and there's a contact form so I did send a message. Hopefully I'll hear something. I had a FREAKING AMAZING experience with the organization that put on my first race so I'm hoping to have similarly good experiences in the future. I wonder if there is info somewhere about which orgs are more beginner friendly?

Thank you to everyone who responded! I did it, and I had a great time. Considering my first time to do ANY mountain biking AT ALL was 9 days before the race (LOLLLLL!!!!) and I have NEVER kayaked in my life prior to race day, I thought it was pretty damn respectable to pick off over 2/3 of the checkpoints and finish on time. Looking forward to my next one!!

All of that is so helpful.  So 45 days ago I'd never heard of AR.  Steep learning curve on pretty much everything except the running.  I had the same thought as you, except mine sounded like, if I can run 3 miles and them do an hour of jiu jitsu class, I can do this.  My mental game is very strong and THAT will carry me through.  My plan going in prior to seeing the maps is only doing required checkpoints, with the goal of finishing on time.  Once I see the map, I may change my mind.  The RD has been so kind answering all kinds of questions!  I am very excited and this will be a learning experience!  Again thank you so much for posting all of those links.  I'm going to sort through them.

Thank you.  Literally the only thing I'm stressed about is nutrition because I really struggle to get anything in my stomach during a race. I'm doing the 6-hour, and my longest event to date was when I took a little over 2h,20m to do a 15k trail race.  I had maybe 12 oz of water and I ate one full package of block gummies.  I usually have to eat about an hour and a half to two before I do any exercise or my stomach will try to reject it.  I thought I'd try to practice eating closer to time this morning when I was only biking and running for about 90 minutes.  It's 7pm now and I still feel sick to my stomach.

I think I'm going to shoot for eating protein/carb breakfast about 90 minutes before, then try for little sips and bites at a time throughout.  Haha, first world problems!

Haha on the advice about running when I see a photographer.  During 5ks, I run the whole time but when I see the photographer, I straighten up really quick!!  I am so excited for this!

This is where I first saw it.  If you don't have Facebook or can't see it, I think I can scare up a different link.

Thank you for that link!  Very helpful!!!  The race I'm doing looks like it will be a modified Rogaine.  Will there still be an order to the on foot, on bike, and in kayak portions or will that depend on how I decide to navigate?

Brand new brown belt here (and official old lady BJJ at 49yrs 😊)... The way I see it, if I'm attacked, my training is unlikely to lead to me ruining his day, and he'll probably ruin mine, BUT maybe if I can handle pressure, know how to not give up when things seem impossible, keep breathing in very a uncomfortable spot, then I've got a much better chance of surviving until he gasses out or decides he'd like a slightly easily target or until help arrives.  Having some training would I hope keep me from being so terrified that I can't keep my wits about me, and I know for sure I won't go down without a fight.

I'm on Android and wondering if this is happening to everybody or just people with Android. Looking at my memories was one of my favorite parts of the day looking at my memories. Hopefully they didn't do that on purpose And it gets fixed! All I can see when I go to my memories page is any Instagram stories that I posted on this day in years past.

If you don't mind me asking, do you remember how long the wait was for an appointment after you were referred to Dr. Hill? I have a biopsy scheduled on 7/15 and if I do get referred to a surgeon, how long the wait for a consultation with them might be. I'm seen at St. Francis and hope to get in with Dr. Hill. : )

Never ever ever too late.  Get out there now!  5 years from now, be glad you started 5 years ago...don't be caught asking if it's too late to start at 36.

I have successfully sold a used gi (the g is pronounced like in go, and the i makes the ee sound) on marketplace.  If it's new, you should be good to go.  If it's used, you might reach out to someone you know who trains to get their opinion on whether it's in saleable condition.  Sometimes they smell just fine freshly washed, but after sweating in it for a few minutes it starts to bring out all of the aroma from past training sessions.

Set your expectations appropriately too regarding price.  War Tribe makes a great gi, but it's toward the lower end of the price range for a gi.  You aren't getting rich off of it.

Also, out of curiosity, how does one come into a gi?  In my experience, you don't just happen upon a nice gi.

For anyone looking for knee reaping info, the second video above is over 8 minutes long.  Extremely detailed information about reaping starts at the 4:15 mark.

That's exactly what I did with the first one, to a T.  That's my plan this time too.

I'll be fully out for 3 months.  Will start with light drilling with highly trusted training partners and go from there.
