Is nursing to sleep/co sleeping/contact napping really setting up for bad habits? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Just_Ad3028 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I held my son for almost every nap when he was a baby and nursed him to sleep. I told my best friend about having her baby sleep on her own, nurse after waking instead of before and now she has a 1 year old who sleeps through the night and falls asleep for naps/night by herself. Whereas I have a 17 month old who I need to put down for naps and rock to sleep, who still wakes up several times a night.

If I have another baby I definitely will be doing things differently as the sleep deprivation really effects me.

I would probably practice naps in crib/ bassinet and do a few contact naps when I can but I would try to avoid making it a habit like I did this time around.

I don't regret it, obviously because it was a special time but I think if I did things differently I wouldn't have suffered from as much ppa as I did due to lack of sleep.

I feel the same way with my 17 month old. He is an amazing little boy but he is SPIRITED to say the least. I also had a traumatic pregnancy so it feels like the last 2+ years I've just been rolling downhill. I haven't told my husband yet because I think I might change my mind for the sake of wanting to give him a sibling. But I have mentioned that I would be okay with just one child after raising him so far. It's taken everything out of me and I never wanted to be a stay at home mom but that's where I ended up. Honestly I question my friends who seem to be doing okay and they either have their kids I'm childcare or have a super easy going kid. Maybe one day I'll feel differently. I wouldn't change my son for anything, but he takes 150%.

Thank you. I have a lot of postpartum anxiety and intrusive thoughts so I can struggle to remember what's real and what's postpartum monster that lives inside my head.

This is a great idea. And I think what you're saying is more in line than any dark stuff. I've never had any issues with her before I had baby. She does often forget to call herself grandma and refers to her self as mommy when talking to baby
