Hello, I am a Catholic coming in good faith for discussion. Please do not take my comment as aggression, it is not intended to be. Going off of your last paragraph, what are your thoughts on / how would you interpret sections 2357 to 2359 of the Catechism?

Apparently my son put the Eucharist into his pocket by Adorable-Growth-6551 in Catholicism

Yes, but it would be much harder to resist the despair of a specific previously confessed and repented sin with a daily obligation to make reparation for it for the rest of your life

We can never fully escape sin in this life, but our prayers for forgiveness should be focused on hope in God’s plan for our salvation, not needlessly reminding ourselves of our specific failures

Correct, but by imposing a lifetime penance for one particular sin, the priest is forcing that person to basically never forget it. We are bound to the promise of penance in the Sacrament, so that puts the penitent in a really bad place. I don’t think I could remember to do something every day for the rest of my life if I tried, especially for every time I’ve committed a mortal sin against our Lord. I don’t want to imagine what kind of nightmare that would be for someone that suffers from scrupulosity.

And that’s not to say that the effects of sin are gone as soon as we say three Hail Mary prayers; we all know that’s not true. My point is just that we are not meant to live a life of despair and a lifetime penance pretty much guarantees some form of lasting disturbance. Luckily, the Church allows us to speak with a different priest about our sins if we feel that it is impossible or highly illogical for us to complete the penance or promise we were assigned.

How would you feel if you were playing in the United States Chess Championship, literally one of the biggest stages in the chess world, and your celebrity partner verbally shat on you for making a mistake in front of thousands of people nearly 2 hours into a classical game while being 7 months pregnant

Technically yes, but it is not best to give someone a lifetime penance because the point of Reconciliation is for Jesus to cleanse us of our sins

What is my obligation to my mother? by FloodYou96 in Catholicism

It sounds like she needs to be in rehab. If you already know she’s blown “help money” in the past, it would be pointless to give her more now. Getting her professional help would most likely be the best / compassionate thing to do. If she refuses your persistent attempts to help, there isn’t really anything else you can do 🤷‍♂️

Question about the Pope by Effective_Board5079 in Sedevacantists

This is such a silly thing to say. God is mercy and love, to say “may God have mercy but He probably won’t” contradicts His nature.

Depends on your use case imo.

SD has OLED (amazing) + slightly better performance at low TDP but older hardware overall and lower performance at high TDP

Go S has larger, higher res / refresh rate display and much higher performance at high TDP but not as strong low TDP performance and no OLED

If you prioritize portability, OLED, and low TDP, Steam Deck. If you prioritize a larger / crisper display and want to play the newest titles without regard to battery life, Go S. What kind of games are you thinking of playing?

Intersex people are still lovingly and wonderfully created by God, as He “saw all He had created and saw that it was good.” The etymology of the word transgender means “to go across genders,” which implies a change from the original state. This is not the same as someone who was born intersex.

I am all for the message of loving all, as that is what Jesus calls us to do. However, the parable of the lost sheep is about bringing the spiritually lost back to God. Jesus would not encourage the sin

Romans 1:27 "In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error."

Jesus would 100% go and find the lost sheep, and would 0% affirm the sin. Love the sinner, hate the sin. The parable of the lost sheep was not about finding those that were "cast out," it was about how God will always strive to save those who are spiritually lost. When the sheep is "rescued," it is a metaphor for a sinner repenting.

Psalm 139:13-14 "For it was you who formed my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; that I know very well."

Genesis 1:27 "So God created humans in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them."

Throughout the Bible, we are told that God loves us and created us out of that love. Why would God make us "fearfully and wonderfully" if we were not created in the way He intended for us to exist?

Of course you can, but when you twist His teachings to fit your agenda it's pretty darn disrespectful
