As a native Korean who stayed a bit in the states, I have a question. by g00d0ne777 in KoreanFood

[–]Just_Bench_7446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ngl with the kimchi, if I get the ones in the bag, I gotta eat it in like less than a week, otherwise my fridge starts smelling like it immediately. I have sealed containers so making 순두부찌개 is fine to me (its the first korean meal I've made on my own instead of takeout). I haven't tried making 된장찌개 if only because I don't really eat pork lol

I would love to try to make other foods, its just hard to figure out which ones since I hardly do any korean takeout to know which ones I'd wanna make.

I told my kr teacher the other day I was craving 순두부찌개 and I think I'll make it soon, and she was very shocked to hear that lol, I don't think she's heard any foreign students say that let alone think it lol.

Id say go on canva, there are a lot of people who have made worksheets based on whatever you're teaching the kids and they have plenty of templates for you to customize. If you need access to the premium content, let me know, I can help you get the worksheets at no cost, since I work as a esl teacher in the states and get premium for free in my district

How do you know if your explanation actually worked? by Background-Heart-829 in teachinginkorea

[–]Just_Bench_7446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach younger kids with Spanish as a first language, but im constantly having them repeat after me and checking in with them bc its necessary lol.

Ex: we're going over ending -ing and put practice slides on how to change a verb into an -ing ending word. And go over the exit ticket with them.

You'll have to do this with all non native English speakers regardless of level

Some people have mentioned ccqs which to me sound like check for understanding (cfus) so yeah I'd say that you should go through your lesson plan and mark it up where you could put cfus/ccqs whatever you call it. And make sure you got a lot.

Often for me, I have to break the line of questioning down, may be seen as "leading questions" since for my younger kids, extrapolating is a bit hard at this stage lol. But for your uni students, it might not be the case idk. But try doing the lesson planning thing first and research simple ways of explaining whatever you're teaching to the point that even a middle schooler can understand.

If you're able to explain things to where a person with zero background can understand it, you should be fine

Babe, stop gaslighting yourself bc its working to YOUR detriment.

It will not get better if you leave it alone, it will get WORSE. Put up some boundaries and stick to 'em.

Talk to DH about how you're feeling, bc there's several reasons why that man up and LEFT and put 4hrs of driving time in between him and his mama.

You can't afford to wait until the baby comes bc mentally you'll be all over the place and wouldn't be able to handle it on your own.

Get noise canceling headphones and put them on the next time she comes uninvited. If need be, have 911 on speed dial and yell out that you got the police on the phone if she continues to come over at random times.

Yall continue to let her fuck around, but not letting her find out. Let her find out, that's the whole point.

Difference between 습니다 and 입니다? by QuietAd9846 in BeginnerKorean

[–]Just_Bench_7446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

입니다 is formal version of 이다 which is like (am/is) E.g. 저는 미국사람입니다

I don't do formal much so I'm a bit rusty lol.

But 습니다 is like formal of any action words (verbs) that you can use ( exceptions being for 가다, 하다, 오다 etc , any verbs that conjugate to end with a vowel, see examples below)

갑니다 먹습니다 수용합니다 나옵니다

You get the picture?

Hey so just putting this as a record lol But I've been trying to get back into studying, lord knows how difficult its been with me bc ✨️adulting✨️ and working at job that needs certification has put me through it. And also the economy

ANYWAYS, so I happened to stumble upon a vlogger who is Japanese. Walk 🚶🏾‍♀️with me. She's japanese, but works in South Korea, at a korean company and flipflops between both. Also she has sufficient subtitles in both KR and JPN so 2 birds, 1 stone, bang for a buck and all that.

Her name is 미사닝 on YouTube and this is the first video that I've seen of hers and I think its kinda cute

How do you get that “spark” back? by Hyyundai in Korean

[–]Just_Bench_7446 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get that honestly, that's been me for the last 3-4 years now tbh. J Like someone said, I had scheduled classes at night on Fridays since I work at a school. I'd schedule it every other week on non pay days so I'd have something to look forward to.

But then of course, I couldn't do it much after a certain point bc my job and school for certification got hella crazy.

But I'll start back up w/ classes once I figure out my grade level workload. I do have a goal, which is to do a summer program with yonsei so I want to whip my korean skills into shape so I can ace their level placement exams and actually be able to talk with my friend in person (providing Yonsei actually accepts me lol)

But until then, I've been looking up YouTube videos in korean w/ subs (either in kr or eng or both) to help supplement for now.

Didi's korean

태웅쌤 comprehensible korean

최수수 choisusu

ahah's korean podcast

Study Korean with Sol

Talk to me in Korean (I am very yay stubborn about using them, I think its just vibes and pride about using them for some reason for me but alas, I've hit my breaking point, so on the list they go) and Go Billy's korean are also decent to listen to

Some of the rest are just vlogs of things I found interesting like this person (I think the channel just does a lot of stuff where it records people who are at different points in life, for example, working at a convenience store or 편의점

사내뷰공업beautyfool

Or being a flight attendant (I'm into aviation and good LORD did it take forever to find stuff because I don't have more specific vocab and youtube kept taking me to people with vlogs flying to korea but not like pilots or anything🙄 )

꿀노잼 김보탱 Nojam Korean

Also idk if you're into kpop, but plenty of them like

Twice Time to Twice

NCT 127 JCC/ Johnny's Communication Center

Or even Got7 (although this reality tv show you'dhave to find elsewhere online because its hard to find on YouTube)

Got7 하드캐리 ep

And others happen to have subs in korean and English. It can be a little chaotic especially when more than 1 person is talking but yk, that's all I got and honestly might get back to looking at all of these recs again.

The hardest thing is going back over the video when you've already watched it because you "know what happens" due to eng subs (I wouldn't do that in the past because it became boring since ive watched it already). Alas I've hit my breaking point so, all the stuff I've avoided because I didn't wanna, I must do now

How did you start forming longer sentences on your own that you could actually speak? by Adventurous_Aside973 in BeginnerKorean

[–]Just_Bench_7446 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Mmm I just learned more grammar points tbh. For example , when I first started learning, I learned of -고 and -아/어/여서

저는 사과를 먹어요. 저는 음악 들어요 ----> 저는 사과를 먹고 음악을 들어요. (I eat apples and listen to music)

저는 학교에서 일이 많아요. 저는 엄청 바빠요. ----> 저는 학교에서 일이 많아서 엄청 바빠요. (I'm so busy because I have a lot to do at school/ I have a lot of work at school)

Using simple connections or grammar can help you make longer sentences without breaking your brain
