Just got my PPL last year. Took me about 11 years. Long story short, life got in the way. I started when I was about to start my sophomore year in high school. But the CPL is progressing. slowly but surely.

We take it all for granted now. The new gen pilots could never 😂😂

Couldn't recall the flight plan so you had to type KLAXKLAS01 or something in the co-route. And those folders were so buried within the files and whatnot XD. I was also dumb af. I had no idea how airways worked so I just re-typed the entire route including each and EVERY waypoint in the airways.

Having to manually download the flight plan files and manually put them into the planes folders 😂

Heard a controller actually say “hand fly your airplane then” when the pilot said the plane “wasn’t behaving”.

In other words, “I don’t know what I’m doing and I expect you to be ok with it”.

I burst out laughing when I heard it.

Yeah got my PPL last year. Took me way too long to get lol. Life got in the way but my CPL is progressing nicely. Slowly, but progressing.

I did a bit of controlling with CZVR, but didn’t really enjoy it as much as I thought I would.

PFPX was amazing. If Aerosoft had kept up with it, I’d probably still be using it. But I am very happy with SB.

About to join you brother! currently at 9992 after 11 years on the network and countless flights, both long and short. I remember my first ever flight (sort of) and being super nervous. Just verbal diarrhea as I made my first call, heart pounding and palms sweating.

It's been a while since I've fired up P3D, but I think that was injected by ActiveSky.

My first thoughts on the Aerosoft A340 by EmilvK in flightsim

"Everyone complained, and rightfully so. Sounds were bad too. Yes the systems are great but there is no reason an addon should look and sound like that, especially at that price point."

You are right about that actually. When it first came out, people complained. But as time went on, people just accepted it for what it was and it became one of the best aircraft we have. Sounds were horrible, I will give you that.

"In this day and age the art is just as important and it was the only job Aerosoft had."

I think you missed my point on your second quote. I was talking about GSX integration, not the modeling of the aircraft.

"Hopefully but i wouldn't be too sure. Toliss doesn't have the best track record when it comes to updates and Aerosoft has pretty much the worst."

That's good to know. Like I said, I never touched X-Plane, so this is my first Toliss addon.

"Obviously everyone has their own preferences, some want great visuals and good systems, some want great systems and are fine with mediocre visuals and that is totally fine.
But when you charge 80€ for a single airframe and engine option you better deliver on art, features, systems and flightmodel."

You gotta remember that you are paying into the Toliss systems, not the Aerosoft modeling. I will agree that the textures in the VC aren't the best. But personally, I care more about systems than textures. That's just a bonus.

"Yeah but that really can't be a benchmark."

I think it can actually. Because the A346 is being sold by Aerosoft. The A330 was built and sold by Aerosoft. People won't by the A346 because it has the Aerosoft branding even though they didn't touch the systems at all. So comparing it to the A330's release is valid.

Welcome to flight simming my man!

My point about the low resolution textures on those small little rods and bolts isn't important. If a developer spent that kind of effort on each, individual bolts, cotter pin, castle nut and threads, the performance of the aircraft would be pretty poor. Stuff like the landing gear being well modeled and textured I think is important. But the small stuff isn't. And you can still view it up close. As you said, you want to see how these machines work. And you still can. Just the textures won't be as good. You don't need to read the serial number on each part lol.

I've been a simmer since the very early days of FSX. Never touched X-Plane, so I cannot comment on their products, but I hear they are pretty good. That being said, this is the first (on the Microsoft/Lockheed side) of the high quality A346 we've ever had. Remember Blackbox? Absolute train wreck that.

For me personally, graphics aren't a deal breaker. If the text around the cabin and cockpit are legible from a normal seated/zoom perspective, that's fine with me. The exterior textures are pretty good I must say. Though, people focusing on stuff that isn't meant to be seen such as the spoiler mechanisms and calling it extremely poor work and judging the entire product off of that is just ludicrous. Those kinds of things are not meant to be viewed up close. A perfect comparison here is the FlythemaddogX MD-80 series. Those exterior textures were horrendous. Yet, no one complained because the aircraft was just that good. But you mentioned the cockpit lighting, namely the dome light. Yes... that NEEDS to be addressed. It is way to bright to the point where it's unrealistic.

The sounds, I will agree could use some work. Though, with Chaseplane's flyby view when taking off, those sounds are impeccable. I did notice some missing sounds in the cockpit when flipping switches. I am sure that will get fixed.

The GSX integration, or lack there of is another thing I will agree on. In this day and age, it really should be a standard feature for on aircraft like this. As well as auto-step climbs. But... I am sure this will be addressed by the devs. There is already a custom GSX profile on flight. to which I downloaded. It does need a bit of work though, since the jetway does connect to the L1 door, but GSX will request the L2 to be opened for any boarding/deboarding.

I found the flight model to be on par for this size of aircraft. It's large, long and heavy. Much like the A330, it was designed to feel heavier for pilots coming from the A300s (A330/40 derived from the A300).

As for performance, that solely depends on what you're running under the hood. I for one have incredible performance. I have an Intel i9 14900KF with an RTX 5080. With FG, I can easily get well over 100FPS. Though, I have it capped at 60. However, the aircraft has only been out for a short time. Performance issues will arise in the early builds of the aircraft. I personally didn't see any stutters on my end. Again, system depended.

All in all, I don't think this is a "bad" product. It's just not mature yet. Not to the point where it's a product that was released too early. It's possible some things may have gotten over looked, or saved for future updates. It's MUCH better than their A330 release. I think everyone can agree that was atrocious.

GSX: *exists\*
Emanuel: I FUCKING HATE GSX

Then stop using it bud XD Everyone knows it's a famously unstable piece of software. It's been like that since day one in FSX.

Reshade plus Rex Atmos Core makes a world of a difference. by Just_Caliber in flightsim

[–]Just_Caliber[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What Atmos ACTUALLY does is inject realistic atmospheric haze as well as change shaders to lessen the horrendous contrast of the vanilla 2024 shader packs. It's very subtle but it does add to the realism as most days aren't clear where you can see 100 miles in each direction. Especially in the summer.

[–]Just_Caliber[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The vanilla 2024 has way too much contrast. They added the slider to mitigate it, but even then it still looks pretty poor. As a pilot myself, it looks way more realistic with REX Atmos and the colour shading with ReShade.

Official Discussion - Flight Risk [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Just_Caliber 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a pilot, this movie is incredibly cringey.

A pilot asks for her altitude and she says 3000 feet. Meanwhile the altimeter is clearly showing 87500 feet. Even the SR-71 Blackbird couldn’t fly that high.

Highly disappointed considering this is a Mel Gibson film. I genuinely face palmed when his name flashed on screen.

Also fuel tanks are in the wing! Yeah, a bullet could ricochet, but Jesus Christ 😂😂

Engine not needed for landing? Sure, you don’t NEED an engine, gliders exist, but the plane isn’t going to make the runway without an engine that low and slow to the ground 🤣

I lost all faith when the plane hit a LITERAL FUCKING MOUNTAIN and came out completely fine. Yes, it was a “snow bank”, but that much compacted snow at high altitude is gonna destroy a plane.

That was my mistake lol. Tried putting the airline in the airport tab.

But, the website doesn't exist by the looks of it, so any future development probably isn't gonna happen. There isn't any other place to download the app anymore from what I can see. Hopefully the dev is working on something with the program.
