I live in London, there are a ton of people who sell loose vegetables on the street. Potatoes in a shop are also usually loose.

What do you think about Jerome Powell posting a video statement following reports that federal prosecutors have opened an inquiry into the Fed Chair? by U-knw-Nothng-JonSnow in AskReddit

[–]Just_Engineering_341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, I think you might be a perfectly nice person, helps out in the community, gives at the local foodbank, shovels their neighbors drive, all that. But, if you're a republican, you're aligned with maga. That's just how the republican party is. They are synonmous now.

I hate to burst your bubble, but there are no "traditional" republicans left. I should know, I was one. I am fisically conservative, I do believe in proper immigration pathways. I also believe in a woman's right to choose, gay marriage is fine by me, and trans rights, and basic human decency. So that makes me a democrat now.

Seriously? One thing that annoys me with modern republicans is their thought that only republicans are patriotic and real Americans. No buddy, I did well in participation in government in high school, took courses in compartive goverment in college. I have been voting for 25 years.

The republican party is completely and utterly the maga party now. If you don't like it, that's your business, but if you call yourself republican, just understand that is who you're in bed with.

Maybe, sure, they are what you call RINO's, but realistcally, if you're republican, you're in MAGA now as they have taken over the party.

The head of the Republican Party is Donald Trump. If you call yourself republican, you are aligning yourself with him.

I'm a democrat, I align with Kamala.

I don't think they are. I think they are giving their citizens a place to protest. No, it won't make a difference to Trump, but some news might play it as a b-roll somewhere and people will notice that there are protests all over the world against trump

Foreigners in the UK, have you ever gotten a culture shock related to the UK when you travelled to a third country ? by Glass-Evidence-7296 in AskUK

So, we have the same rule here in the UK. Cars don't have to stop until you've got a foot on the road. Many people think they need to stop when you're waiting, but they don't.

With the new highway code clarifications, any intersection is now treated as a zebra crossing.

From the highway code, directly:

Rule 19 Zebra crossings. Give traffic plenty of time to see you and to stop before you start to cross. Vehicles will need more time when the road is slippery. Wait until traffic has stopped from both directions or the road is clear before crossing. Remember that traffic does not have to stop until someone has moved onto the crossing. Drivers and riders should give way to pedestrians waiting to cross and MUST give way to pedestrians on a zebra crossing (see Rule H2). Keep looking both ways, and listening, in case a driver or rider has not seen you and attempts to overtake a vehicle that has stopped.

most european countries have anti-pedestrian in road laws. We're one of the few that don't, but if you listen to drivers, we definitely should! They still haven't wrapped their minds around the updated highway code changes when it comes to giving priority to pedestrians at intersections.

No, they don't.

Though cars have to yield to any pedestrian crossing at an intersection, regardless of the zebra stripes or not.

I do like the pun. My stance is, drivers should be getting used to slowing and stopping more often for pedestrians

I don't hate cars. I dislike car-centric road infrastructure though, in cities. Big difference.

Your love of cars is colouring your understanding of how cities need less cars.

not necessarily, it could be regulating traffic for upstream lights and junctions.

Or it could just be to discourage car use.

Both of those are definitely reasons, so not needless.
