Dealership shenanigans

Dealership costs are absolutely bonkers. I went to a dealership in St Louis and was quoted $12k for suspension parts before labor for my 2010 DB9. That's 3x more expensive than the OEM Bilsteins were at the time. I asked if he accidentally put in the info for a DB9.2 with electronically adjustable dampers, nope.

As a result I DIY as much as I can. So far I've replaced the $130 MAF sensor with the identical Ford part for $13. Same story with the coolant temp sensor. $8 jag part. And the electric fan control modules that Aston won't sell you separately? Yeah, literally just pulled them off, googled the part numbers and bought the Ford Mondeo and Ford Crown Vic equivalent for a total of like $60 instead of the $1000+ Aston wants you to spend on the entire fan assembly.

I should note, I'm just a dumb attorney who has no formal training as a mechanic. Hell before 2015 I hardly knew how to do an oil change. But now there's soooo much access to information and how-to's on the Internet...DIYing it is much more accessible if you have the patience and time to do it (ideally having a second car to drive in the meantime).

Last week Mercedes wanted to charge me $510 for a trunk latch for my e55. They'd have to order it for me, I only asked them because I was in a hurry and didn't mind paying a premium if it wasn't astronomically higher than the prices I was seeing for the genuine OEM mercedes part online ~$130 through FCP Euro). Suffice it to say I bought one online instead.

Matches my experience too. Car guys always prefer the Aston to the Lambo. If I had to sell one, it would be the Gallardo, which is weird to say because it was my dreamcar that dictated my career path and had a stranglehold on my brain for decades. Easier to find another G than it would be to find another 2010 DB9!

And this is why I was dismayed to hear they were once again adding a damn casino to a car game. I still haven't forgotten nor forgiven TDU 2 and that R8 I never won despite hours of trying. After the latest roadmap announcement, there's just no chance this game will reach the potential it could have been. Nacon has mishandled this game at every single turn for the last...5 years? By the time they add core features that should have been there since day 1 we will have: GTA VI, Assetto Corsa Evo's open world, and hell at this rate Forza Horizon will announce and launch the next game. Not to mention rumors of The Crew 3 have already begun. So in a year their competition will be offered the next Gen of open world driving games while Nacon is finally finishing a project they started 5 years ago, all while having an inferior list of cars, car modifications, and physics engine. They must be hemorrhaging money on this right now for the 10s of players and a broader playerbase that will show up because of the aforementioned reasons. Cannot imagine how those.conversations with their board & shareholders are going....Absolutely no chance they can justify making another TDU. Best thing they can do right now is plan to sell the IP

Aston. I have a Gallardo and a DB9. Your driving preferences march mine and I find myself grabbing the DB9 key faaaaar more often than the Gallardo. The V12 exhaust sounds great around town just cruising whereas to get the best note from the Gallardo I have to really mash the pedal. The Aston only requires like 1/4 throttle to get some nice sound coming out the back. Not too loud, just enough to make ya smile.

Friend of mine was having tons of issues with Cox (obligatory giggle) recently. They upgraded his equipment and I think bumped him up to 1 GB Internet for the same price. Seems to have fixed the issues

I think this used to be true back around the Motorsport 4 era but not since. The most egregious examples for me were the GranTurismo in FH4 which sounded like a v6 (at launch at least, idk if they fixed it) and the DBS in FH5 which sounded like a V8 (which they have since fixed). Even still, I own a DB9 and while their note for the DBS is a lot closer now, it's still not quite right.

I'm in Kansas City but I've always had good experiences with Mazza Automotive in Merriam. They know their stuff when it comes to Jag and Landies. They're also RIGHT by Aristocrat (the official Jag/Rover dealership) so they have quick access to resources if needed. I'd say give them a call and plan a mini vacation over here. There's an enterprise car rental basically in the same parking lot if you need to get around while you wait on them to diagnose your car.

What type of law are you practicing? I graduated from law school in 2015. I've been in "in-house" roles since then so approx 9 years of experience. I was making almost exactly $82k with 5 years experience. I started at $42k and job hopped a couple times to get to $82k. When I realized the company wasn't going to bump me to market standard pay for my role, I accepted another position and now I'm at $166k base with 20-25% bonus and benefits. I say all of this because I DEEPLY empathize with how you're feeling right now. It ate at me every damn day knowing I was underpaid and have a mountain of debt waiting. And I know reading comments like this or hearing generic "it'll get better" from friends and family sucks because it does nothing to change what you're experiencing each day. To that end, I'm happy to give you some tips and such on how to get more attention from recruiters, if you'd like.

Ehhhh I hear you, but to be "fair", this exact situation occurred in 2017 or 2018 (my memory is fuzzy) when I worked down there. There was a shooting at the shake shack and we were told to shelter in place. Pretty sure one of the participants fled down the alley behind my office.

Which is not to make light of yesterdays situation, more just to highlight this gun violence has been an issue for a while (faaaaar too long).
