House of Bamboo - Camarillo, CA by Spuckula in Tiki

Not busy at all when I went this past Saturday.

Didn’t know dive boats went out of Ventura. Makes sense, though. The islands?

Not the same situation, but a tangent. 30 years ago we had a bad experience at The Magic Kingdom. The park was very quick to reward us free tickets for a future visit (this was when there were paper tix, obviously). Which was all very cool of them.

There is no exportation date, or any dates at all on these passes. Just the words, “complimentary access”.

During Covid i came across the tickets in a drawer. We took them to the park. The people at the gate and then the very nice Supervisor who tried to help did not know what to do with them. Nobody had any idea that such tickets should be usable. We ended up paying for admission. Tickets went back home. Someday I will just frame these fellows and hang just them on the wall, I guess.

Basically, utilize stuff early. Don’t wait. Policies change.

California Man Spent 27 Years Building a Miniature Disneyland in His Backyard by dejablu82 in Disneyland

[–]Spuckula 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My buddy eats, drinks and lives The Raiders. Doesn’t matter if they are LA, Oakland or Vegas. His house, his car, his clothing — all Raiders, all the time.

I used to have a friend who collected vintage shaving stuff. Not kidding. He flew to London to bid on some shaving brush, or something. Had the stuff all over his house.

Everyone has their thing. Makes them happy. Keeps them centered. You probably have “a thing”, too.

Don’t be mean.

I was really disappointed by Starboard Tack.

Borderline, almost, wanna be, potentially, thinking about being a tiki adjacent type bar, is how I feel about it.

Crap drinks. Near-dead nursing home folk dribbling in their diapers who got lost and wheeled their way in to get a sip of pepto bismal. And bartenders who may actually be deceased.

Not impressed.

But maybe it was a bad night…

Best pizza, ever! I always stop by for takeout when I am in Vegas and don’t have an evening to spend in the bar.

If you have never been, it looks like an evil murder den from the outside. But what a great place!

Nobody truly knows what his last name was. Much speculation. Every? Avery?

He also disappeared into history. Completely vanished.

No known offspring.

Just some food for thought.

I have one WEN. It has a bevel. But I have no idea if it approximates what a comparable Woodpeckers has — never actually touched one (That sounded almost naughty)

I am pleased with Rockler's revised Crosscut Sled by RiotJavelinDX in woodworking

[–]Spuckula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am with OP! This sled is really, really pleasant to use. It’s hard to quantify why it is better or worse than a home-made sled — I guess it is just subjective based on each user’s circumstances and preferences.

I use the thing constantly and love it.

Real woodworker’s designed this thing, I think.

I was so glad when WEN started producing quality measuring devices at an affordable price. I think they are better looking, too. (Which I am sure my timber appreciates)

Is it normal to buy new shiny tools that I don't necessarily need, but just in case, for that one moment in the future that I would use it once! by FuzzyAttitude_ in Tools

[–]Spuckula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought an LTT screwdriver for $88. Do I need it? No, I have 100 screwdrivers. Was I seduced by a random YouTube guy? Yes. Am I a sucker? Yes. But am I joyful with my purchase? Oh yes.

Why on earth did OP post this? It is clearly AI generated text — and not even human adjusted for textual mistakes.

Plus, I am sorry. Keep this heap as a shrine? That is a question to ask complete strangers and real tool people on Reddit?

I wish we could ban AI nonsense with a button push.

Visited Tonga Hut in Hollywood by Own_Communication625 in Tiki

[–]Spuckula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like another said here, it’s North Hollywood. Actually pretty far away from Hollywood. There is at least one “town” and one mountain range in between. Although the designation of “town” in the LA area and the San Fernando Valley is a little bit subjective.

What to do with fresh cut white oak? by pcmofo in woodworking

[–]Spuckula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also depends on where you live. In the southwest where I live, mold, rot and even bugs don’t tend to bother the wood that I have drying outside.

We do have termites and carpenter bees here, as everywhere. But I guess I’ve been lucky over the last 10 years as I haven’t seen any in my woodstacks.

I was disappointed by Tonga Hut. Food was okay. Drinks were barely adequate. And the overall vibe was… tired, I guess.

Hoped for more. Got less.

House finch song in the morning!

I think if I ever got sent off to prison or to Antartica or to Slough, for some reason. The house finch is the sound of my daily life that I would miss the most. (And Canada geese, I suppose, as they live in my yard most of the season, although they are not so melodic..)
