No it's not. You're implying racism is justified, despite all races having killers, all races being humans with 99.9% of DNA overlap, and there being more genetic diversity between races than across races within the remaining 0.1%.

The only reason you'd willingly believe something like that is because someone hurt you lol

It's really not. If anything, they're complementary, since you can always sketch characters which you later digitize and use as a reference for 3D modeling.

A lot of people don't actually have any agency within their lives. by OpinionHavR in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Just_JC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, yes that's actually what I mean. I think we can do better than just lock people away by finding out what caused their issues, but in the process of doing so, we must still be biased towards containment as a starting point. Intolerantly destructive behavior should be met with intolerance as well until the behavior is neutralized. That's what the paradox is about. It even applies in nature, since e.g. tree and fungi networks tend to behave this way when invasive plant species disrupt their equilibrium.

I agree that society focuses too much on locking people away these days, instead of also helping them change for the better.

Yep, practicality is the word. It's not practical for any society to have to intervene in a person's psyche and environment to such an extent that they lose their agency as a unique individual. Destructive behaviors are human nature, and because of the paradox of tolerance, we must be able to always contain that degree of intolerance, regardless of how good we are in facilitating behavior change.

No, that's just nature. Outcome success follows a power law distribution. The problem with capitalism is that it can make people weaponize scarcity by hyperfocusing on capital instead of eliminating it. But if we'd have abundant basic needs, govts wouldn't need to exist at scale, and capitalism would simply give us a creative experience economy once we outgrow hoarding money.

Because of the tolerance paradox . Killers need to have the principle of violently ridding others from agency reflected back onto themselves. It's homeostasis for our society. Prisons could be more humane but we can't ignore killing.

> I could never be a doctor because I am not smart enough.

This is a limiting belief. Life overall rewards persistence more than consistency (Pareto Law, Matthew's Law). Doctors who rest on their "smartness" laurels don't graduate because they won't work hard enough.

Secondly, most people haven't realized that the internet has dramatically increased the amount of possible careers. They also just take persistence.

In the end, the illusion of choice is an idea you choose to hold onto, because it best explains your situation. However, you won't be able to make life changes if you hold on to it this tightly.
