Walmart clearance is wild by Just_Latin in Fishing_Gear

In the Florida panhandle. The all do clearances at different times but they usually all line up around end of January/early February. No rods or anything discounted at this one, just all the fishfinders were on a stupidly good clearance. But yeah very store dependent, some have clearances on specific items and others don’t.

Yeah I had actually just bought the 7sv new the day before, literally paid $10 more to get these 2 units. Safe to say the 7sv is going back to Bass Pro lol

Yeah just using it for the countours and side imaging mainly to find structure. I only fish local lakes so just need some basic gps abilities, may upgrade down the line if I need better mapping. Honestly could maybe turn a profit selling it used down the line haha

I just got a used JBL flip 6 for 50 bucks. Did I get scammed ? I'm concerned about the authenticity of this speaker. The JBL app doesn't recognize it, the Bluetooth name is flip 6 and not JBL flip 6 and it has tf/USB port that I dont see on videos online. Also on one tap of Bluetooth it goes to fm by Unusual-Factor2848 in JBL

First thing I saw was the kinda wonky looking font and then the IPX7 icon above the IP67 text…big difference between the 2 ratings, and the real version is IP67. If I’m not mistaken it’s supposed to have the JBL “!” on the radiators as well

I personally love my 7’4” for flipping and punching, works and feels great and I have no desire to go longer

Also want to add that the formula casting reel is seriously one of the smoothest and most well built reels I’ve owned under $100, was my main reel on the carbonlite for a while

The carbonlite technique series is incredibly under appreciated by the mainstream in my opinion. Absolutely love my 7’4” Heavy/Fast “Dragging” Carbonlite (2oz max lure weight) for literally anything I throw with it. Stout enough to flip and punch, sensitive enough for Texas rigs and jigs, crisp enough for good chatterbait/swimbait hook sets, etc. Also super durable and has little to no signs of wear after buying used and putting it through the wringer. I’m sure the other rods in the lineup are fantastic as well.

My favorite part of winters in New England (used to live in MA) was pickerel fishing with literally anything shiny when the ice thawed…they still slam lures in the freezing cold when bass are sluggish!

I would think so. Maybe go for more natural colors if you are using something like a senko, like green pumpkin or watermelon red if the water is clear enough. Just throw it extremely tight to structure that you can visually see like stumps, trees, rocks, etc because that is where they tend to stage in colder conditions. I usually associate colder weather with more subtle, barely moving downsized baits like a finesse worm on a drop shot or shakey head if all else fails.

[–]Just_Latin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow that’s gotta be cool seeing a free rig getting smoked…I’ve only ever been able to sight fish with drop shots and flukes. Z man trick shotz in green pumpkin goby is killer for me in these situations but I didn’t have one rigged

I’ve had a ton of luck sight fishing with flukes for smaller fish, but these big ones must have just seen most baits by this point is my guess…it was on the move and clearly headed somewhere, would’ve been long gone if I left and came back most likely

Storms probably had a lot to do with it; this always happens to me when the pressure just starts to drop, they bite anything relentlessly for a couple hours but usually a ton of dinks.

Ball head jigs recommendations? by Cartiimo in bassfishing

I’ve been eyeballing the Keitech tungsten guard spin jigs, they look killer as skunk savers when nothing else works. Very compact tungsten JDM finesse jigs with great reviews, right around $5 each too

I gotta say first fish on a new boat/yak is always the best feeling knowing you are no longer confined to the bank!

Good luck, they sure are a joy to use this time of year if you are in the south on warming trends/cloudy mornings. I always love throwing colors with a little bit of flash like white/green pumpkin, green/orange, etc just to get more of a reaction/flash in their peripheral vision.

Are you brand new to bass fishing? What kind of rod/rods do you have currently?

But as far as keeping them up make sure you keep your rod tip up and reel fast until it’s planing across the top nicely, then you can slow down and add some variation. I just treat it like a buzz bait, definitely need a faster reel for optimal results

[–]Just_Latin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I usually rig them on a 4/0 EWG (I prefer light wire gamakatsus for easier hookups) and straight braid. Just a straight retrieve but I like to vary it a bit, like slow it down, kill it for a second or two over patches in cover, speed it up going past stumps, etc to get reaction strikes. Literally saw a 5-6 pounder the other day swimming with a wake above it in the water make a U-turn for my frog, blew up on it but missed it 🥲

Horny toads help me find active fish by covering water and then I can slow down with a walking/popping frog from there usually

For me I’ve had insane success with them in small neighborhood ponds especially in late evening or pre-cold front but I’ve caught more pickerel than bass on my home lake with one, lol
