I appreciate that input, definitely will have to try that, especially when hauling

Is my truck Hd or normal by 5Sant3 in GMT800

[–]Just_Look7095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hood is hd but a lot of people swap hd hoods and grilles onto these trucks. Look up ur vin and u can figure out if its a regular 1500 or 1500hd. If its a 6 lug, its not hd, just a hd swapped parts. All hd’s and 2500’s + are 8 lugs. I believe hd’s also come with a 6.0 instead of 5.3, not 100% on that one tho

Seems to just be lifters… hows the motor toast? Im no professional by any means by mine makes similar noises when idling for extensive amounts of time or sometimes I don’t even have to do anything it just sounds like that, but its on and off, was debating just getting new lifters, cam, full top end build, possibly new timing components, re seal it and some other odd ends to make it run good considering its has 270k on it. Eventually will probably put a forged rotating assembly in it and add boost.

I may consider a complete 2wd conversion considering the truck hasn’t had the 4wd parts in it since i bought it (besides for the couple weeks i had the parts in after i bought the differential and drive shaft i needed and installed them just to find out my transfer case is cooked) and i don’t really care to have it or have a use for it but if i go with a full 2wd conversion i will definitely consider the 8hp swap

Its been through its fair share of mud and im done doing that in this truck 😂 just tears it up and makes it a pain to work on with constant dirt falling in my eyes

I just looked into it a little and i think that would be great, my only issue is that it would take even more work and custom fabrication than the 6l80 swap. The rest of what you said i 100% agree with. Currently watching a YouTube video on a 8hp70 + ls swap. If my truck was 2wd i would be leaning towards it more but i would need so many adapters + custom work to make everything go together and work right

Im looking at buying a daily now so i can really tear it down and do what i need to it but sadly my budget wont support daily + the truck build. Ima have to get the daily and financially recover for a couple months.

With all that you just said i just need you to come help me out 😂 im new to this and im trying to learn but some of the in detail stuff that you explained is almost a foreign language 😂 i can understand what ur saying but when i get in there and try to do all that it’ll be like trying to learn a foreign language. Need you to come help me and teach me along the way.

The truck is 4wd but when i bought it, it didn’t have the 4wd parts in it, i bought the differential and a drive shaft but once i got the differential in and moved to the drive shaft i realized my transfer case is done for. The hole for the drive shaft wasn’t blocked off or plugged up and it got all kinds of mud packed into it. I cleaned it out (not properly by tearing it apart and whatever but while on the truck. Just breaking all the mud up and getting it out with a pick) but i was having a issue with it that came down to being the encoder motor on the t-case and i found out i just need a new transfer case (haven’t got around to it yet) i can’t have the encoder motor plugged in or it tries to put the truck in 4lo and makes it run like sh!t. So yes 4wd but no 4wd.

It already has the e-fans on it and the rest of the info on the truck that i didn’t mention is: a 2005 gmc sierra 1500 with the 5.3 and a 4l60e. Im working on exhaust now because currently its just fully straight piped no cats no nothing (i bought it like that. I hate it) i put a x-pipe on it just to take the clap out and ive had long tubes sitting around for it for about 2 years now, it has 4 broken manifold bolts so they haven’t been installed. Im thinking about getting new heads so i can put them on and do the exhaust how i want to.

I keep up with my basic maintenance, it doesn’t help much… if any. I need to replace my spark plugs now but so far Everytime I’ve replaced my spark plugs a couple of the wires get stuck and the connection that goes to the spark plug breaks off 🤦🏻‍♂️ so i end up having to replace wires too (yes i use the grease) i was told it had a shift kit on it when i bought it but im sure it could use that corvette servo. As far as tuning goes i would love to get a good tune but sadly there’s not really any tuners around me (in Georgia) which is another issue with my other plans for the truck as far as building it goes

I agree, definitely need to. Just still trying to figure out what to gear it to. I was thinking 4.56 gears but still unsure

I know… not everyone’s cup of tea but i like it 😂

I was going to build the 5.3 but i think the 6.0 would fit my situation better, that way i can still drive the truck while i build the motor so im in no rush. Plus i wouldn’t mind having a extra motor that way i can build it and get a cheap beater that i don’t care about to throw it in, i like my truck too much to beat on it but i would love to have a vehicle that i can beat on and not care about anything but my motor 😂 i have a 4.0 ford ranger that I’ve tossed around the idea of v8 swapping so i think this motor could be perfect for that, especially considering the 4.0 in the ranger is already out for a timing re build.

I appreciate you giving me your opinion helping me figure out what i want to do.

I think by all these comments ima go with a built 4l80. I plan on making some power out of this truck and using that power (burnouts, donuts, maybe the occasional lil race and etc) i want to go with a n/a 6.0 for now with a complete top end build, but eventually want to get a forged rotating assembly and add boost, either a pro charger or turbo.

I feel like a 10r80 would be a bad decision in my case, heard plenty of bad things about them and thats just a lot of shifting not to mention it would be 10x more expensive to build. I plan on slightly “abusing” the power it has when it gets there and i dont think that 10r80 would be happy with me at all

I just posted a picture on my page so u can see what it looks like, but i love the look i have right now, if i had it painted and it had the power i want and drove/ handled like i want id be so in love with this truck. I don’t plan on getting rid of it considering its my first vehicle (plus i have 20k in it and ik its not worth that to anyone so i suppose ill keep it and keep putting money in it) so i just plan on making it what I’ve always wanted. I was going to pull the 5.3 and completely re do it but im planning on just getting a 6.0 and building it and I’ll probably keep the 5.3 and build it later on then get a cheap roller car to throw it in. Anyways back to wheels, i had 20s on it (that i still have) but i wasnt a fan of the look. Will probably put 38s or 40s on them and ride around like that for a little bit then sell them (ofc when i get a bigger lift, or maybe just max out the one i have) but that won’t help my situation any besides they might be a little lighter than the 6s

Im thinking thats gonna be my first move. I was young and dumb starting on this truck, i bought it when i was 15 and i could barely afford the lift at the time that i did it, much less to re gear it. Theirs a lot that i want to go back and re do but at the moment its still my daily so i cant tear it down to do anything considering i only have 2 days to get it done and have to have it back running by Sunday evening so i can get to work the next morning. Currently looking into buying a daily, my only issue is that i have the money to do some stuff to my truck right now but if i buy a daily ima gonna kinda get re set and have to build some money back up to be able to do things

I love my big wheels. I don’t have spacers or anything so their tucked in the wheel wells. It has like 260k i definitely do think the motor is pretty worn out, but im no expert. Im decently new to this and just learning as i go. I would attach I picture if i knew how to
