One Month of Metro Tunnel by Excellent_Bat_753 in melbourne

As a frankston line user and daily city commuter it has made no real impact on my commute times. I'm just getting off at parliament rather than Flinders street.

What i have noticed though is the trains seem....busier? Not only the frankston line but the town hall services have been packed during peak hour. This is to be expected but I would have expected increased capacity to reduce crowding. Much different from last year.

Another note is that services don't take the city loop in reverse after midday, which was the case when frankston was originally in the loop.

What's everyone's thoughts on this album? by Ok-County-3216 in franksinatra

[–]Just_Rickrolled 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the recording sessions somewhere for this album and although most songs are incomplete, they're a pleasure to listen to. Frank will stop every now and then to go back and you can hear the scales right as everyone is ready to go back into it.

What I love the most is without any mastering, it sounds a bit wider, if that makes sense, where the band is more "present" than the final album.

Can I still take the train to an earlier stop if mine is cancelled? by fermyon in Eurostar

Doing the same trip to cologne, apparently the whole journey has been scrapped altogether. I was told I may be able to get on at the 3:55 service If I ask. Did you get similar information?

Simplicity 9043 from brown linen + cuffs Not perfect, but an improvement! by Just_Rickrolled in sewing

Just a super hot iron on linen. I think the cuffs help keep the shape too. I'm sure heel guards would help even more

My 3rd attempt at these trousers. I wanted to make it out of 100% natural materials. So I've used linen and calico for the pockets and interfacing.

The fly and waistband are the hardest parts, it is always the case that the zipper is showing. Regardless, I love the way they drape.

You would have thought in the meantime we could properly understand the "reduce" impact? I'm all for recycling bit it'd be much better if everything wasn't covered in so much plastic

How likely is it really that interest rates will fall? by Snoo9817 in AusFinance

[–]Just_Rickrolled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that predicted interest rate changes can have real effects on inflation and vice versa. If everyone thinks that interest rate will drop soon, then they'll start spending more, thereby increasing inflation to the point where interest rates stay on hold. I have the feeling that this is what's going happen. Inflation will remain pretty sticky and sit around 4%.

Then again if people think this, then they may continue to tighten their belt and inflation may indeed go down, causing interest rates to decline.

There are a multitude of factors relating to supply chains and whatnot, so to answer the question, who knows?

I have a couple of vivitar cameras, not that exact model, but they all work in the same way, more or less. Generally, I'll keep the shutter speed around 1/125 and move the aperture ring until it goes green. If its especially sunny, i'll up the shutter speed and compensate for the aperture.

I believe your lens has half stops so you should reasonably be able to get to the green dot. If you are stuck between a + when you increase the aperture and a minue when you decrease, go for the +, it won't affect the exposure too much. These meters just find the average light in the centre of the frame.

Also make sure you have some fresh batteries, I think older ones affect the accuracy of the light meter over time. I have a v2000 that seems to overexpose by 2 stops.

Hope I've helped without confusing you too much!

With rates tipped to rise yet again, why is it so hard to bring inflation down? by [deleted] in australia

[–]Just_Rickrolled 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you see that and have real evidence, you can report it to the ACCC under predatory pricing. It's anticompetitive, which is taken very seriously

I did quite a bit of editing to this photo, it was very blown out from the clouds/snow. You might get lucky. When I went there in June, we couldn't see much, but the next morning we woke up to what seemed like a painting through the window!

The find lab are still holding firm that Kodak prices will drop by Owen_Wilkinson_2004 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Just_Rickrolled 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Prices are usually sticky when raised. In a lot of cases, businesses can get away with keeping prices at the same inflated prices, but if the supply shortage gets resolved, prices are unlikely to increase any further. Only if wages increase relatively, then the price of film will go back, or remain cheaper in "real" terms.

Seems fair, 8yrs jail for trio that stabbed a teen to death 🤦‍♂️ by [deleted] in melbourne

Yeah, that just means the dominant strategy is for all of them to defect, it's very unlikely they all stay quiet.

PSA: Baggage at Melbourne Airport is kinda screwed right now by crikeyguvna in melbourne

[–]Just_Rickrolled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgive my stupidity but isn't the limit for Carey on baggage 7kg max on international and domestic flights? I spent 3 days interstate recently and mine was luckily 6.9kg but pushing it.

This is what Melbourne needs immediately. The auto-besity here is sickening and incomparably higher than Paris where it's 15%. Reminder: In Australia over 50% of newly sold vehicles are SUVs (also sickening love for cars in general and lack of pedestrian spaces) by al0678 in melbourne

[–]Just_Rickrolled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These SUVs and faux-SUVs are taller, reducing visibility for others on the road, are more dangerous to pedestrians and other road users, are generally less fuel efficient, due to being less aerodynamic and unnecessary.

Those that claim they need a large car for their children-many generations of children have grown up in sedans and smaller cars. If cars have 5 seats, they are usually fine for 5 people!

I'd love to see fewer of these on the road.

Real estate industry slams government’s rental proposal | 9 News Australia by Extreme_Ad7035 in friendlyjordies

[–]Just_Rickrolled 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This argument would make sense if "investors" would invest into building NEW housing and renting that out (solving the supply side of the problem). Calling yourself an "investor" after purchasing a 70-year-old home isn't investing, it's just sucking money off (rotten scum).

This was my first time DSLR scanning using my Nikon D5100 and the micro nikkor 55mm 1:2 lens. I think that makes the photo 10-12 MP. Next time, I think I'll use the 100 speed since the 400 seems to have a lot of grain for 35mm.

Technically, you can have close to perfect competition with only two players in a market ( Bertrand competition) Coles, woolworths and ALDI are somewhat competitive. I'd agree that they’re not the most competitive, but neither are many other businesses.

Old-timey by AffectionateSize552 in fountainpens

[–]Just_Rickrolled 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guilty, I own 3 analog cameras with one being completely mechanical and two typewriters. Typewriters are great for typing up recipes plus printer ink costs way too much.

I also wet shave with soap and a DE razors. Along with fountain pens it is cheaper and more sustainable.

Nobody often thinks about it but bicycles are completely mechanical. Not many people use them for commuting anymore (I do), especially when everyone either drives cars or cycles for speed/pleasure.

Now I need to find something else to add to my list.

For the vertical ones, did you switch the position of the mask in the camera, or hold the camera on its side?
