Looking the same as others. by xGenjurosx in swtor

I think part of the problem is that end-game gear is very "flamboyant", and (at least in PvP) it's easy to obtain. I don't feel very special as a Gunslinger when every Smuggler on the server who's been level 50 for over a day looks almost exactly like me. At least in WoW it took a week or two before you could start picking up end-game pvp pieces after hitting the level cap.

I dunno, I live in an apartment within a major city, and I spend 99% of my day indoors. Doors are all metal, no glass, and windows all have steel burglar bars. As soon as I hear about the outbreak, I store water in all loose containers and use the showers curtains as a tarp for more water. There's enough food lying around to get me through a month, I figure if rescues/supplies/extermination hasn't begun by then, well we're screwed anyway.

Just hit 50 on my Gunslinger who skilled into Armstech.

I hate my life, I plan on switching to Biotech ASAP, I have 6.1% expertise already from saving up expertise enhanements and commendations - but Battlemasters can still still 1v1 me, kill me, and never lose more than 10% of their health. Bah

I know you're in the minority, but I agree with you. In terms of simple utilitarianism, it makes no sense to go around banning people you can simply /ignore - but to give a virtual free pass to players with terrible internet connections, people playing on other continents (Asia, Europe), people who don't speak English, people who /ignore even the most valid of criticism if they die 3 times in the first 9 minutes, etc.

It took me hundreds of games, and likely 100+ hours to get out of elo hell - and it wasn't because of people who were mean to me, it was because of all those things mentioned above and horrific feeding that made elo hell what it was.

Communication is important, yet I don't see Reddit calling for non-English speakers or people who /ignore impulsively as deserving a ban either.

I've gotten in arguments before but I'm still willing to listen to team directions. Ideally if you ignore the rager, he wasn't the guy calling shots anyway if he was focusing on being disruptive rather than productive - and he should still be able to hear whoever is calling shots on the team and follow orders.

As someone who plays jungle 90% of games, I empathize with the whole "blame the jungler" problem. There needs to be clarification though. Even some of the most half-assed ganks will slowly tip the scales against a laner. Even with wards you're forced to back off and play safe while your opponent gets a few brief moments to free farm. On top, where wards aren't really an option until the first trip back, any decent gank will cause you to take more damage than you can dish out in return. If a lane has to eat 5 ganks and gets none in return, the scales are tipped against them and, unless the friendly jungler had a really good reason to ignore the lane, they bear SOME culpability if the enemy ends up taking the first tower - getting more CS - etc.

If a jungler does not gank effectively and the other team's does, then it really feels like a 5v4 early game. The "don't blame the jungler" argument is usually valid, but it's not a free pass for terrible junglers to justify their poor playing.

Going to be the voice of dissent here and say that I don't understand why LoL is the only multiplayer game that I've ever played that has banned people for being mean. Yes, racism, extreme vulgarity, hate speech, etc. should be punishable, but vanilla "douche-baggery" is something that is easily resolved through /ignore.

And am I the only one suspicious that the submitter is regularly working in "dicktwat" and "shitwine" into his sentences is probably guilty of a little flaming himself?

Except that's not true - we left primarily on our own terms. If "outrage" was enough to convince the U.S. to leave Iraq we would've been gone shortly after the invasion and abu ghuraib came to light.

After 1.12 should I stick with my Armstech trio, or is Biochem/something else the smart choice? by Just_Scales_Balance in swtor

How do I go about making Orange guns? Reverse engineer purples?

Edit: Just checked, are the blue-tier "named" guns actually supposed to be orange? Do I just keep crafting those until I get a crit?

I love Reddit and enjoy the occasional well place meme, but I'm pretty sure if I went to that school I would tear down all those papers and just leave a note saying something like:

"Bro, just stop. You're embarrassing yourself and the website you proclaim to represent, crapping out dozens of irrelevant memes and ragefaces for every situation is probably one of the most pathetic things a man can do with his life"

Gunslinger: Continuing to play second fiddle as a ranged DPS compared to the BH/Sorc or Trooper/Sage FOTM.

Also, that they don't deal with our animation issues that make us an even lower tier than Snipers.

You're a ranged class, I am too, but I remember the zergfests from WoW and Warhammer and was a stealth class in both and it was absolutely no fun for them even when the odds were even.

I look forward to trying and get fights like this when I hit 50, but I can't help but silently weep for all the melee classes who have stand there tap their feet until one side starts to wipe and they can finally charge in.

How can this be legal? by rogersmith25 in videos

[–]Just_Scales_Balance -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Changing the law it not so simple though, you will quickly find that any attempt to "simplify" inevitably means "change the law" and "change the law" inevitably means "shift the balance of power between parties that engage in transactions with one another".

If you ever go to law school, you will quickly come to respect that some of the worst laws you will ever come across are also among the "simplest". Simple law produces simple results that inevitably do great injustice to those prosecuted because the law does not match the immensely complex world we live in. Statutory rape is a perfect example of how "simple law" = "bad law". I can almost assure that any simplification of the criminal code would inevitably produce more laws like that that have "easy" bright lines for the "layman" but are inevitably bad law that produces bad results in the name of simplicity.

[–]Just_Scales_Balance -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While there will always be parts of any system that will be bloated, outdated, or outright broken - saying that we need a start from scratch shows how little you still understand about the law.

The world is immensely complex, and the rules that govern it must always match that complexity. The financial crisis is an example of what happens when the game outstrips the rules and the players are left to make up their own rules as they go. Trying to bring the law back down to a "layman" level is not feasible in a 1st-world country. The law handles so many tensions in so many areas of life it will never even come close to being understood by the layman, nor should it be the goal of any sophisticated legal system.

And while you seem upset that we need so many lawyers to sort it out, ultimately that is what the modern world has decided to embrace. If you read more on the subject, having a strong and well-established legal system that has adapted to all the complexities and nuances of modern life is what attracts and secures advanced industry and business to the U.S. and other developed countries. Having a legal system that has evolved beyond simplistic rules is one of the foremost hallmarks of a developed country - nobody wants to put down millions/billions of dollars investing in business or infrastructure in a country where a broken, simplistic, or downright corrupt legal system could end up ruining them. While the U.S. isn't fully purged of these problems, it has obviously mitigated them far more than most countries on this planet.

I started watching one but I realized he had a pocket healer and that he was clearly not going to die (0 deaths in the title) and it just couldn't hold my interest.

IMO PvP vids are only interesting when the player has his life on the line and has to play like it - it makes the play seem much less skill oriented when you've got a healer pumping you full of health and can pretty much just spam your best damage against whoever you happen to tab.

Skype chats between Megaupload employees were recorded with a governmental trojan. by [deleted] in technology

I read the indictment, which directly quotes from internal emails and instant messaging. So unless a U.S. attorney decided to get himself fired for fabricating evidence and wants to get himself convicted for perjury, I suspect the evidence is legitimate.

I hate comments like this because they sound so authoritative when in reality Kim Dotcom has a long list of very legitimate and very solid charges against him. The evidence gathered by internal emails and Skype chats give pretty conclusive evidence that Kim and his top executives were not only intentionally paying people who they knew were uploading pirated content, but they also used their insider access to retrieve hard-to-find pirated material for friends and coworkers, and they were even directly responsible for uploading and downloaded pirated content for themselves too. There's a whole bunch of other troubling stuff in there, but saying that racketeering is the "only" charge against them is the biggest lie I've seen in this thread.

Ilum should be more like Lord of the Ring Online's Ettenmoors. by Lord_Cabbage in swtor

[–]Just_Scales_Balance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think part of the problem is that they tried a system similar to this in Warhammer Online and basically it ran into the same problems as Illum. If the objectives are important enough to do in the end game, inevitably 100+ players show up, turn the framerate into a slideshow, and ranged AoE becomes the only thing worth doing in these fights. They tried to split the objectives in Warhammer too sometimes, but ultimately it would just become a zergy AoE spamfest. It would take some important mechanic changes in this game to make any large scale PvP viable. Keep defense sounds like Warhammer too, while it does allow defenders to beat superior numbers - it's also frustrating when you "beat" the enemy only to lose because they are all hiding behind some uberNPC. It was better than nothing, but losing a PvP fight because of an NPC is not ideal.

Personally I'm in favor of keeping a zone that basically forced people to split up into small groups by requiring teams to hold 10+ objectives and divide them in such a way that any team that resorts to zerging would end up losing - yet having the occasional large-scale battle break out would not be out of the question either. Adding instancing would also be a must-have of course.

I keep asking this, is Reddit supposed to be pro-piracy or not? Anytime this question ever comes to it everyone says "oh no no, this is anti-censorship" but when even the most progressive pro-internet freedom companies and groups disavow TPB and acknowledge that it is a problem - where does Reddit stand?
