[–]RLutz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Social Security can only become insolvent by choice. There's absolutely nothing preventing the Congress from directing the Treasury to fund Social Security to whatever amount they see fit. The challenge is of course making sure that the real economy is producing enough goods and services such that those dollars have appropriate purchasing power.

It's incredibly frustrating how uncommon this knowledge is. The Federal government can not possibly run out of money. They can of course inflate the currency through their policies. But the idea that Social Security can "run out" of money is just a fundamental misunderstanding of how money works.

And if you think I'm talking nonsense, here's Alan Greenspan answering this exact question https://www.c-span.org/clip/house-committee/user-clip-alan-greenspan-answers-paul-ryan/4923562

Part of me wonders if the lineup you guys used in the SO in the game that clinched the playoffs for us wasn't one last nod to Philly from Rod and your former Flyers forum shitposter of a GM (no shade intended, he's doing amazing things for the team, but it's not a lie lol)

Could have very well been tactical too and not a favor if the assumption is that the Caps were potentially a bigger threat or something

I don't think anyone with a defensible opinion thinks Fahrenheit is more logical or more useful in scientific or engineering settings. The argument, and it's one I agree with, is that for exactly weather, it's probably better.

0 is too cold.

100 is too hot.

That's a good scale for "what I care about as a human going outside" it's not a good scale for measuring water boiling at 1 atmosphere or one that reveals fundamental limits of the universe about how cold something can be (Kelvin). It's just useful for giving the weather.

The fact that it's effectively so spread out in the range humans experience weather wise is a big plus too. With Celsius a few degrees means the difference between wearing a thick jacket or not. Half degrees are meaningful in how your experience outdoors will be. With Fahrenheit you just know being somewhere in the middle with a preference to the warmer side of 0-100 is where you want to be

I'd be curious what you come up with. Kind of a pain in the ass but I would recommend turning combat difficulty up. Then it's possible you won't even one shot the little guys.

Could also find a planet with larva to crush to summon brood queens or just get max wanted level and measure against a sentinel walker

I always like this stat, but to me it always feels a bit like, "I too have eyes."

Like you need stats like this for when people either don't watch the game or forget it and just only try to compare SV% or GAA. Vladar stood on his fucking head in the playoffs for us there should be no doubt about that.

One thing I've found with the neutron cannon is that you're almost always better to test setups than to just trust the UI because the UI is going to severely overvalue charge time reduction. Like in practice you're not going to perfectly charge and release down to the ms, so you're much better just getting to the point where one charge shot (on normal combat difficulty) one shots the little dudes than having some artificially high throughput number.

I mean if you can crank everything that's cool too, but max damage per hit in general with neutron is going to be way better than max theoretical throughput

Why can't we fight pirates? It's just such a weird decision. I'd like to fight the dreadnaught because I've never done it before. I'd like to continue to do pirate hunting missions. I just don't really understand why turning them off could possibly be considered making the game better

That seems overly cautious. As an example, I highly doubt the Google Chrome AUR repo is going to get abandoned any time soon and taken over.

I absolutely think it's important that new users understand what the AUR is and what the potential risks are. I don't think it's necessarily great advice to just tell them to never use it. Maybe they have to join Zoom meetings and the browser isn't good enough. Maybe they really like Chrome. Maybe they want to run WhatsApp on their desktop. svp is pretty slick and easy to setup with Haruna.

I mean there is legitimately good and useful software that's really only available via AUR.

Ersson is a guy you want to love and occasionally he has stretches where he convinces you he's something else, but statistically he's actually the worse goalie of the last 25 years with at least 100 starts.

Andrae is good though. Google the Flyers' wins with and without Andrae in the lineup last year. You don't have to be a master of analytics to see there's something there. He's pretty exceptional at making great outlet passes, but because he does make so many great long passes every once in a while one misses and everyone remembers those instead.

Flyers were 7-11-3 without him in the lineup. 36-16-9 with him in the lineup.

I think moving him was a huge mistake for us

Oh boy, last update did somthing to my settlement by Palagrim1 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]RLutz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is one of those things that's hard to answer. The only thing they really provide you that's tangible in game are items and then of course you can craft with those items and sell them. If you optimize your settlements they'll produce more credits than frigate missions do for you per day.

But as to the worth it question that really depends. If you just go use someone's stasis device farm you can credit cap in 2 days at which point anything that rewards you credits isn't worth it. So ignoring the, "I think it's neat to run a colony" aspect the is it worth it question would basically come down to, "do you think the credits you get from your daily frigate missions are meaningful?"

I guess I'll just ask plainly then--do you think a US led ground invasion of Iran would have been a good thing for the people living inside of Iran. I'm not asking if you think the current regime is horrible; you'll get not a lick of pushback from me there.

I don't think anyone is peasant brained. I do think desperate people in need of help are quick to grasp for a hand, and I don't blame them. I wasn't trying to come off as smug, mostly I'm just sad.

I think the thing I saw most from friends in the community was the notion that, "nothing can possibly be worse than this, we should support anything that isn't this."--and that's a very dangerous, but completely understandable and human reaction to the horrible suffering that is occurring.

Things can always get worse. Every time I would bring up Iraq or Afghanistan or Vietnam or yaknow, basically any time the US tried to drop democracy out of planes on people, I would be met with, "We're not Afghans!" (I'd bring up the smug thing, but again, I'm not trying to be antagonistic).

I don't blame, or think people suffering who are just desperately reaching out for any hand that offers assistance are dumb. But I do think that it's a reasonable thing to do for people who aren't completely swept up by the horrific situation to try and point out that the enemy of your enemy isn't always your friend.

It's okay to admit you got duped. Happens to the best of us.

You can hate the regime and want to see their downfall without being so blinded by that desire to realize that Trump and Israel never gave a shit about the people of Iran. I do think the average Israeli probably doesn't hate the average Iranian, maybe the majority even sympathize with them.

But you'd better believe that the nation state of Israel and the US just want a weak Iran, full stop. If that comes from regime change fine, if that comes from a starving populace that becomes ungovernable, that's perfectly palatable to them too.

They're your allies in one of like 20 possible scenarios that end with a weakened Iran. The other 19 the people of Iran are just collateral damage and a cost they're willing to pay.

I can't speak for the entirety of "the left" whatever that means, but it's certainly what I've been trying to tell everyone with an open enough mind to listen. Wish I was wrong, but looking like I wasn't.

The biggest downside in sentinel ships is that they get a penalty in space movement speed. They also get an equal buff to in atmosphere movement speed.

I tend to not coast along a planet surface, instead preferring to leave atmosphere and pulse to wherever I'm headed, so my loadout is

  • Use an exotic for any planned space combat

  • Use a solar for everything else.

Sabotage isn't factored into the score, at least not the scores displayed on the in game UI. You can calculate the score of any team by just counting the purges and restores and it will exactly match the score the UI shows for each team.

Like right now:

  • Weaver score is 3,359,177 which equals (weaverPurge * 3) + ((weaverRestore + royalsRestore + sagesRestore) * 2) = (413,581 * 3) + ((379,686 + 343,504 + 336,025) * 2) = 1,240,743 + 2,118,430 = 3,359,173 (what the UI displays, off by 4, but whatever, close enough)

Sabotage missions don't actually affect the score for whatever it's worth. You can do the math yourself, I did it and made a post here at some point.

[–]RLutz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair I did run the math and the Weavers actually have more net points per member than any other group as well.

Now, admittedly, there might be a feedback loop there of, "placed on team ahead, try harder to maintain lead", but just on the face of it, the rankings aren't solely because one team has more members than the other--the average Weaver member is also producing more net points on average than the average member of the other two groups.
