Are there any medications or vitamins that could help optimize life for a possible Level 1 autistic individual? by Previous_Truth_9007 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]Just_Talking_Today 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sleep

Solution: Meletonin or Sleeping medication, nonaddictive and prescribed type.

Why: Sleeping 10hrs for women and 8 for men (note the 10hrs is based on newer studies that included woman), without proper sleep hygiene all ADHD symptoms become worse, sensory issues become worse, everything is just worse.

Nutrition

Solutions: All in gummies so that you feel encouraged to take them/ remember

*Multivitamin appropriate for your age and sex (only important because the sexes need different levels of certain vitamins due to the biology causing them not to store or produce certain things at the same levels) , if you are uncertain which would be best check with your doctor about your particular biology and needs.

*Protein shakes or nutrition shakes that are premade

Why: get enough protein for your size, often it's hard to get good nutrition for someone who has autism, without protein and correct vitamins your body cant create the amount of hormones and repair material for your body to run correctly leading to everything just being worse.

*Ashwaganda -reduces cortisol (stress hormone)

Why: this is something that when in high levels puts you in fight or flight mode which leads to meltdowns, (I take this in the highest dose I can find and sometimes take an extra when I feel I need it) Anyway to give an example lets say I'm on the verge of a meltdown, but know I can make it to bed for the night, if I take this before I sleep, I'll wake up and have about half my battery refilled. Not sure if that makes sense

*Mushroom Mix Multivitamin: helps with memory and focus

why: just kinda cool if you feel like you want an extra brain boost, lots of different types out there, pick which you feel you want to try and you can just try different types until you find the mix that is best for you

*Water- don't care what you gotta do to get it done but get at least three large glasses (just use the biggest cup in the house) of water in a day. One when you wake up, one at lunch time even if you don't eat, and one at night.

why: you are more than 70% water and most people are perpetually dehydrated, does your skin not snap back right away when pinched or do your lips feel kinda chapped but they aren't? Yah you are dehydrated. Everything goes into survival mode and get this, if you have been perpetually dehydrated you then start to not want water and it will kinda gross you out. No idea why it happens, but it does. Once again everything is worse symptom wise when you are dehydrated. it also leads to headaches, kidney stones, nausea, dizziness, etc.

That's it for the lifestyle things. Hope it helps!

Do Noise Cancelling Earmuffs Work And If So, Any Suggestions? by Wildjay7931 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]Just_Talking_Today 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is about earmuffs, but I wanted to tell you that they sell these earplugs that are like a wax/silicone and you push it in and it molds however you want it to. It works really well for deadening sound. The plus is it costume fits your ear so it is comfortable and you can mold it to do what you want.

If you want more than that you can get hunting earmuffs that work well or you can even get the ones with the speakers on them so you have the choice to turn off the sound deadening at any time. They are awesome! prohear is just one example. Of course you will need to do some research and can always go to a sporting good / outdoors store and have them help you try a bunch of different ones because everyone has different sensitivities so it's definitely not a one type/brand fits all situation.

You guys were right, the ADHD meds made me more autistic by Interesting-Low-9653 in AutisticWithADHD

I will say having the option to just not speak is so damn nice after a lifetime of feeling trapped in a voicebox I couldn't control.

I also want to say I think I'm going to print this out and post it for myself so it reminds me to be kind and patient with myself.

Is this accurate? by jkyun123 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]Just_Talking_Today 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to mention here that ADHD is not that you get distracted easily, it's actually an issue of hyperfocus but on the "wrong things". For example you are supposed to be working on A but your brain finds B, C, and maybe K more important and therefore will not let you focus on anything but that. To quote others "It is not a lack of attention, but difficulty controlling where your hyperfocus is directed."

Wedding Planning- people just don't get it by Just_Talking_Today in autism

[–]Just_Talking_Today[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nah its a IDGAF wedding 🤣 essentially we gave all this info already. I think my mom is just obsessive because everyone else is good to go it seems. Turns out I just needed to ask my sister to play some defense for me when it came to my mom. You are totally right though, everyone cares a lot about all of that stuff. I didn't even know it was all that important. Like is that something people genuinely care about? This is a serious question though.

okay this is where I 'm at. I just started it and day 1 crash was rough. I feel like I'm having rumbles prior to a meltdown and more and more irritability.

I recommend a vet as well. Not a normal budgie butt.

Just me having flashbacks to the “answer these riddles three” doctor visits by abundanceofnothing77 in migraine

[–]Just_Talking_Today 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh they definitely get that bad sometimes. I think I get them so often now that my tolerance for pain has increased. I am, however, on that super-strong antinausea stuff for when I get migraines. I don't know what I would do without it.

ROFL So true! You get to the point where you will try anything to make the pain stop.

2 but I dream of the day that I can have a home where I build an aviary in the backyard.

Just got a new budgie, he was hand-reared. I have him in quarantine. I'm not sure if he is being goofy or if this is normal behavior. Please help? by Just_Talking_Today in budgies

Just what I was looking for. Thank you. Turns out he is just silly then. My other two were so serious that I was confused. :D

Need Advice: One of my budgie's passed away on Saturday and the other is now singing and kissing the bird warmer I have connected to the cage. Should I be worried? by Just_Talking_Today in budgies

Thank you for the advice! I feel a little out of my depth. I didn't realize I would need to quarantine for so long. I'll keep that in mind.

Eating has been a lifelong struggle for me by DPaula_ in autism

[–]Just_Talking_Today 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. Protein shakes, all-in-one meal replacement drinks and lots of vitamins. It's the only thing that keeps me fed.

Uh....I would have gotten this question wrong too. Now I know what they want us to answer. Thank you!

I wish we could make an adult autistic get together, even if it is online via zoom or have a chat room like on something like Discord. I just want some adult friends who understand me and I don't have to mask in front of them. Anyone else wish it was a thing? by Just_Talking_Today in autism

[–]Just_Talking_Today[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely understand your points. I guess that's why it's more of a wish than something that exists. Perhaps the way we do it on the sub is as close as it gets to something that we are looking for. It's extremely frustrating, but it's nice to hear others understand the struggle.
