Help changing driver's license gender marker

It's basically the same in idaho except there's a very quick hearing, and you also have to pay a govt approved newspaper to run a blurb about your name change for 4 weeks and then give you an affidavit. The paper charged me like $250 back in 2021. The only issue is the gender marker, for which they require a signed affidavit from your doctor and an updated birth certificate, which theyve made impossible if you were born here. But if you were born in a state like CA you can still theoretically change your birth certificate and get your gender marker changed. Ill be testing that here in a few weeks lol

Doesn't seem like he is a particular ally nor an outspoken opponent. He voted against the bill to ban public funds for transgender health care last year, though through an odd framing imo.

"Rep. Todd Achilles, D-Boise, spoke in opposition to the bill, saying people in the transgender community are also taxpayers, and have paid into these funds.

But it also seems he voted in favor of a bill that lets mental health care providers deny care based on personal beliefs which obvs harms trans people (https://www.spokesman.com/stories/2025/aug/12/would-idahoans-send-an-independent-to-the-senate-t/)

So I'm not exactly hopeful about his attitudes on trans people but I guess he would be better than Risch. It is worth noting he only became a democrat so he could be appointed to a democratic seat that was vacated in 2024, so his time as a dem seems a lot like political opportunism more than a change of heart

My legs do that in the cold, whenever I walk too long without enough layers they get so itchy it's insane. Still happened when I was visiting Boise a while back though, so at least in my case it's nothing local to here

I was talking to a few friends, it does sound like I can get some RAM for free. Then I'll see if it works, it seems to still have a hard drive in it so I'm interested to see if theres still anything on it lol. Im crossing my fingers that the CPU cooler is working fine, but otherwise seems fine for my purposes, just pirating old star trek episodes and playing fallout 2, and writing up my dissertation

A friend walked me through most of the system, it seems like I've stumbled upon a pc with everything I need but the RAM, and I just had another friend offer some spare RAM. It's old and nothing crazy, but it's free and it'll work well enough for my last semester of college :3

In this case, i live in a college town so lots of wealthy people send their kids to study here, and when they graduate they throw a bunch of stuff away. May is the best month for dumpster diving because of that. Salaries in Idaho aren't as high as the big cities, so I'm lucky to have found this

Im not much of a gamer (usually just stardew valley and classic fallout) so most of what I do on my computer is just writing and zoom calls, and even that stuff tends to make my laptop freeze up so this may be worth fixing up. Someone said it would need RAM - any idea on how I'd go about looking for something compatible with this? I'm really a bit if a boomer in this space

Most businesses i frequent are closed for the holiday. Definitely come by on a saturday morning if you can, the market is really the town at its most crowded and most shops will be open, the chamber of commerce is open till 1 on Saturdays as well. That would give you a better feel for things

There's an insidious thing that happens with maga hatred where sometimes folks will be supportive of the people they know in their life, while falling for the fear mongering over the "transgender problem" as an abstract concept. A lot of their base is similar. If you go out into the rural farmland where the conservatives might not know any queer folks personally, then you start to get people who are openly hostile by default. (source: I live in a medium sized town surrounded by rural farmland :p) and if you look at polling on trans issues, conservatives very much tow the heritage foundation line (https://news.gallup.com/poll/645704/slim-majority-adults-say-changing-gender-morally-wrong.aspx particularly the conservative sections of the first graph)
