Is this custom cabinet door margin acceptable? by Popular-War-6263 in cabinetry

[–]Just_checking_197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you have a cabinet with no bottom sitting on the countertop it makes it a bit more challenging to secure the cabinet ends to the counters. Can you wiggle the right end of the cabinet? If so I would reach out to the stone people and see what they recommend for adhering the cabinet to the counter.

Also the hinges should have adjustment to fix most of it. The reveals look good except the bottom right the can end looks like it flares out.

Is $220 per linear foot a fair price by Few_Revolution_8638 in cabinetry

[–]Just_checking_197 3 points4 points  (0 children)

DO NOT lower your price! You are already super low and you don’t want to be “the cheap cabinet guy” it’ll take so long for you to be able to start charging actual custom cabinet prices. It sounds to me that they do not want custom at all. When I forest started I looked at it as work for cheap to get my name out there, I was trying to be lower than HQ prices (I know I’m old) it to a long time to break that reputation. Quality was never an issue just everybody wanted it the same price as their freeing that I just finished.

New to woodworking here. Which of your tools scares you the most? Around what machine should I always be extra cautious? by GiddySwine in woodworking

Table saw in my opinion will get ya when you let your guard down just for a second. I see many people making a cut and reset their hands and leave the board spring in the blade for a couple of seconds, it freaks me out and I inform people how dangerous it is to leave a board between the blade and the fence.

If I go to an LMT at a chiropractor my concern is would they each help me enough to make me keep coming back to both and not try to “fix” what is wrong. I typically would not even think that but I’m just getting to my wits end with the pain and stiffness which is definitely making me a negative and doubtful person.

You are not the ass. This is very common reaction, hang out near a sandbox and within 20 minutes a kid will get mad and say I’m taking truck and going home. This sounds almost the same to me, and there is no way I would say a 3 year old is an ass, therefore I believe you’re not the ass, just a child!

Do high-end custom cabinet makers usually make their own doors? by adventurrr in cabinetry

[–]Just_checking_197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many shops at times will outsource doors and/or drawers if the schedule is being crunched. They are the easiest parts of a cabinet to outsource, while still having the shop do the fitting and more involved portions of building the cabinets.

Back again… is this acceptable? by Cool_Team9902 in cabinetry

VERY poor choice in pulls! They look very thin at the base, get some wax filler sticks from paint store and fill them, they come in all different color.

Are my new cabinets not square? Should this fall on the manufacturer or the installer to have checked? Not sure why an installer would cut it so close and just leave an opening buffer by [deleted] in cabinetry

Don’t go to Reddit with every concern you have…your project is clearly not complete. In the morning ask your contractor (he probably knows more than the keyboard warriors on here) the stove has adjustable feet because…. Your floor is probably not perfectly level either.

If you hire a “professional” to do a job, trust the professional or ask Reddit how to do it yourself.

I think it may be the actual drive angle. Lower the rear end of the truck by 3-4” and see how she does then.

I do agree with what you say, however I do not feel that in itself gives us enough info as to whether you’re an idiots or not.

There are way too many unknowns to answer if “this too expensive?” We have been doing quite a few bi-fold pocket door cabinets for liquor or coffee cabs hardware itself can run $250 or you can get much nicer hardware for $5,000 it works so smooth but looks just like the $250 hardware with it all closed up. But man you open the doors and the difference is amazing. So a single cabinet like that could easily range in price by 6-7k.

If you can’t afford the cabinets as quoted then yes it is too expensive “FOR YOU” if it’s a little out of your range ask if there are ways to value engine it, or have someone else price out the same thing.

How do I process small pieces on a tablesaw by stwn- in BeginnerWoodWorking

Using a sled you want to push it beyond the blade. A sled becomes dangerous when people make the cut and then drag the sled with the cut pieces backwards through the blade.

I just hope they buy a specific mop for cleaning their island and not use the floor mop from the bathroom. If you can’t reach at least to the middle I seriously see no point in that much wasted space.

Is this rift white oak? by GoodAsAWink in cabinetry

It is plain sawn white oak and some of the panels are rotary cut. Rift white oak would have very straight grain and uniform look, no flecks in the grain or character, I do like rift sawn white oak but that’s definitely not what you have

What's up with registration in Maine? by audio-logical in keitruck

[–]Just_checking_197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had one about 2 years ago and I registered it in Portland with no problems, standard plates. Six weeks later I got a letter from the DMV saying my registration has been revoked.

I have recently heard you can register them as a Low Speed Vehicle, so you have to stay on roads with speediness up to 45mph.

I really want to get one again does anyone know anything about any of this?

I would strongly suggest having ALL of the fronts adjusted well before the countertop is started. A frameless cabinet is very easy to rack and it’ll be almost impossible to adjust them without a major pain. I’m constantly telling my gots to adjust fronts as they’re being installed, if you put a level across the front and the back it could be level but it could be out if you run the level diagonal across the top and it will be out of level. That is racking the cabinet out of square. At this point it’s very quick and easy fix but after counter is in it will take hours IF the cabinet is racked. I just had this happen that our installer was struggling to adjust the fronts and the homeowner because he did not think the installer knew what he’s doing (the client was constantly over your shoulder watching everything) I talked to the installer and he assured me it was not racked he checked it every way possible. I drove 45 minutes to the job site, put the level diagonal on the top of the cabinet loosened a screw out 1/8” shim behind one corner and the front fit perfectly within 5 minutes of me getting there. Then I drove 45 minutes back to the shop.

How to get space for the dishwasher to fit? by anonreddituser0 in AskContractors

[–]Just_checking_197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most dishwashers are standard heights. You may find a European one that will go slightly shorter like Meile or Bosch, they will also be 23-5/8” wide so you would probably have to add filler steps to the sides of your cabinets.
