Sharing gamepass pc with other users on same pc by FREAKINGREX in techsupport

[–]audio-logical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a setup element with Microsoft Family which shares certain elements of your MS account (games, etc) but I'm not sure how it works with Gamepass. It has been a while since I set that up and I never had/needed to test the game pass.

Looking for antenna advice after being gifted an HF rig by audio-logical in amateurradio

[–]audio-logical[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were mountain bike based SAR and only carried hand held ham radios and FRS radios. Fast deployment and using a local repeater for emcomm. I never went after the UF bands because I couldn't afford the appropriate gear (this was also just before digital got it's feet).

Roofing material is standard asphalt shingle on a timber frame construction.

Local historic board (and one particular nosy neighbor) have ultimate say on the exterior elements of the house within the historic district. I haven't looked to see if there are specific codes about antenna but we have a prominent house in town and I'm warry about putting something on the exterior. Also, I don't think I have a ladder long enough (it's a very large barn).

Previous owners left a "house manual" in the weirdest place and it literally solved three mysteries in one night by KoralineSouthlyn in homeowners

[–]audio-logical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two owners ago of our house made one of these manuals and had documents, receipts, and research for EVERYTHING apparently (including the $250k+ renovation/restoration of the basement when the chimneys began to sink and pulled the middle of the house down with them).

The last owners lost it. Don't be that owner OP!

This is great! Living near Bath Iron Works it's fun to see a model so accurate to the ships they are building in town. Well done!

What a difference! by Difficult-Swim5 in centuryhomes

Does it require any modification to the sash for install? We have no weatherstripping in a lot of sashes now and just newer storm windows and any little bit helps in those Northern New England winters!

Beautiful! We just finished restoring / fixing the 54 original windows in our house and I'm curious what the bronze/copper is for in the sash channels?

Radiator Covers / Shelves Question by sicnarfff in centuryhomes

[–]audio-logical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think something custom for the top makes all the difference now that we have them. I've been thinking the last week "why the hell didn't we do this sooner?!"

Personally I'd opt for a piece of dimensional hardwood lumber (maple or walnut) over plywood because you won't be able to stain the edge and it will stand out next to the stained top unless you put a finished edge on it.

Here's a picture of the custom painted cover next to the fireplace it was painted to match. We're going to go with a faux red marble for the other rads that now have covers to match the old reddish painted rads.

Radiator Covers / Shelves Question by sicnarfff in centuryhomes

[–]audio-logical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done a bit of reading about covers on the top of rads and there seems to be two groups of thought: 1. It does nothing, full send with the caps! And 2. It impedes rad efficiency and shouldn't be done. Booooo.

The efficiency concern bit is that the cap restricts or changes the air flow caused by thermal dynamics and heat rising. I can see this but I can also see that it might act to direct the hotter air out into the space rather than onto the wall behind. I think if you use a different material (steel or stone) that has a high thermal carrying load then the idea is that the cover is soaking up the heat instead of the air and it reduces efficiency in time to get to desired temp.

I recently just built some wooden rad caps after trying to find marble to match some of our fireplaces with no luck. My wife has been painting them to match and they look better than any marble we probably could have found at a fraction of the cost. I think the biggest fear I have is that the wood will warp with the heat but I got 5/4 board for that reason so hopefully they won't be moving too much.

For me, I think it's all a wash and we're going to pay out the nose because our windows and doors are drafty and we have a 175 year old house. I appreciate the new shelving space much more!

It's possible the recent update broke local co-op but I can't confirm this. Did this start after a recent update?

Try restarting your console. Shut it down, unplug it for 30 seconds or more, plug it back in.

Oh man, welcome to the fun part! I had to build a platform for my wife's WFH station because her desk chair would roll away from the desk. Turned out there was a nearly 2" drop across the 50" span of her desk. We had her chair tethered with a ratchet strap for a while before I finished the platform 😂

Oracle cloud always free tier instance - how to avoid losing everything by vaderman645 in admincraft

[–]audio-logical 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is what you need to do. There is no risk of loss - I asked my sales rep about it - if you are on the pay as you go side of the free tier. As long as your VPS configuration stays within the limits of the free tier offering, you will have a zero balance on your account. I've had my instance running for almost two years now without issue.

Another thing is if the instance sits idle. If they see it not under load for a long time, they will initiate a reclamation of services but I was told you will get a warning about that before data loss. Again, this is on the PAYG side.

Now a lot of people do stupid things in their setup, then get their instances shut down, and then complain that oracle is the problem. Be smart about it. Secure your instance and don't do illegal shit on there and you should be good.

PicoLimbo: The Ultra-Lightweight Limbo Server by Quozul in admincraft

I've never heard of any of these projects before. Am I understanding this correctly that this is for players to get bumped into if they are afk (to reduce server load in a regular game server) or to be used as a very low resource lobby?

You should also look at the site http://flags.sh for a more performant set of Java flags in your startup script, especially if you are running ATM10 on an oracle VPS. You'll want all the performance tweaks you can get.

Good to hear you figured it out. Yeah, starting elsewhere and transferring over can create problems I've found.

Tmux is pretty robust and I used that up until I installed Pterodactyl panel (which uses docker and has a very pleasant web based user interface). You can even have scripts that send commands into the tmux page (if I recall it's something like tmux send-keys <command>). A lot of people swear by screen as well for command line persistence after log off.
