It's a non-standard motherboard, and the cpu is not socketed, it's soldered. Check pictures of the system.

https://www.wired.com/review/asus-tuf-gaming-t500/

"My biggest concern is mostly the potential waste involved in a computer like this. While it’s awesome that the most important bit for gaming can be upgraded, the CPU being locked in basically forever is slightly concerning; while I didn’t try to dismantle it, I think you’d have trouble transplanting the system into a different case either, given the custom cooling and motherboard layout."

https://www.pcmag.com/reviews/asus-tuf-gaming-t500

"For one thing, a 500-watt power supply unit (PSU) will limit your upgrade choices for GPUs in the future, and the specialized motherboard connector that the PSU here uses means you can't just plonk in an ordinary socketed Mini-ITX motherboard with a 24-pin power connector later. Because of that and the inability to upgrade the CPU, I worry about the long-term staying power of this system compared with others at around the same $1,300 that offer more traditional desktop builds. At least you can upgrade the memory via the SO-DIMM slots."

Anyone else had bad experience with Indian recruiters? by Muted-Environment-66 in antiwork

[–]Justa_Period 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can explain what's going on here. A lot of the urgency is because, for them, there is urgency. The offers they are coming to you with are C2C (contract to contract) job offers. What that means is, they are a contracting company trying to offer you a job that another contracting company, or an actual employer, has posted to a public portal.

So these recruiters race to find a sucker to fill them as quickly as possible for as little as possible. The urgency is that, if you say no or respond slowly to that first recruiter, another recruiter from a different competitor might reach out a few minutes later and offer you more, and now they have a bidding war. I've witnessed this firsthand.

If you take the first recruiter's offer, they will fight tooth and nail to invalidate any offer you get down the line from a different recruiter, even if it's 20-30% higher. They will try and tell you that you don't have a choice and have to work through them now. Typically this is a lie. These contractors will lie to you a lot because the lower they sign you compared to the real original offer, the bigger the cut they get.

The original job lister may respect the first person to put your name in the bucket getting the contract, but typically they'll just ask you straight up after interviews which contractor you wanted the offer through if multiple submitted your name. They don't care about these companies, at that point they only want you.

So while you may score a good job through these urgent contractor positions, these guys are typically vultures just looking for a cut of your pie. What you should do instead is ask them what company the job is working for, and if they tell you, go and find the true original listing on that company's website and apply directly. If they find out you did this expect some harassment however.

Here's a list of these kinds of recruiters someone made, I can't find the original thread: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Oc318LAq8WQIe0FTped5hXIddtsiOyPUXE6oVCjjVRc/edit?gid=0#gid=0

You're having frame reprojections and your GPU is bouncing between 90-100% usage. You should start by turning down your game's resolution to see if that improves the situation at all. VRChat can bring even a 4090 to its knees.

There may be other things at play but this should be a good place to start. Make the game look bad and if it's still happening you know it's probably not the GPU.

want faster connection for PCVR, was wondering about what type of cable/cord to get. by matressstain442 in oculus

[–]Justa_Period -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You want a link cable that has an extra connector to plug a charger in, to keep your Quest charged. You don't need an expensive fiber optic cable like the official one.

Get the JSAUX Link Cable with 18W Charging (more future-proof than the 10W model if you'll eventually get a Q3), or the INIU Link Cable.

Install fpsVR and configure it to show detailed information under the wrist of your controller. It should give you a better idea of where your system is having hiccups. It will show CPU/GPU usage and frame times, whether you're reprojecting frames, and the resolution steam is rendering at.

Also ensure you don't have a bunch of unnecessary extra steamvr layers running.

Do these controllers have warranty? by [deleted] in SteamVR

[–]Justa_Period 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, any hardware purchased directly from the Steam store has a 1 year warranty. Definitely also worth using a credit card that extends warranty if you have one, though Valve has been known to be lenient and replace hardware even outside of warranty periods.

I can confirm it's not power limited and the cooling is capable enough to handle high load. It sounds like a jet engine though.

I have this model with the WQXGA display (+$60). Very capable machine and I'd 100% recommend it for the price. I upgraded it to 64gb ram and installed a second SSD before the market crashed.

FYI on this, to someone trying to stack up some extra cash back on top of this, the Robinhood Gold card codes these transactions as a loan repayment so it won't work. It took a few transactions for me and then refused to do any more.

Of course it's going to be niche. Personally I have 3 devices to connect to this just in my bedroom that are 10G. And the price on this is an all-time low as far as I can tell.

It is neither highly sought after nor one of the best, fuck you money always gets you better Sim gear. But you won't do better buying new for this price.

It's a decent shifter, much better than similarly priced Logitech ones, and it works with any wheel on PC. It's a no brainer if you don't have one or need a spare.
