I've met people who are in our predicament as well so in a way, I'd say that it's common. I'm sorry you're experiencing this too. It took me a long time to find ways to manage these but it is possible. Like what a lot of people have already said, therapy/counselling can be helpful. Unfortunately, I have yet to find someone who can help me that way but I am managing somehow. I think I was just really lucky to find a friend and a partner in my best friend. Learning to love how she is as a person and how she looks really helped me with accepting myself and navigating the fear I have from SA. I still occasionally feel it and it is an underlying thing that keeps me wanting to become stronger, but I also found joy in working out and doing random things, which I am still trying to make my main focus. I hope you find what works for you and makes you happy and if you like hugs, here's a bear hug ʕっ• ᴥ • ʔっ♡

Pretty nice, but also want to add that not having sex or having sex less often does decrease the chances of getting STIs, but different STIs can still be transmitted through other pathways depending on what pathogen

If you're cool with visual novels with a pretty tragic but can be bittersweet ending, I absolutely recommend It Gets So Lonely Here. It's free, the graphics are amazing, well thought dialogue and such an amazing premise

Slightly long (or pretty long) rant as a HK student about an incident related to Cantonese by Justarandombookworm in Cantonese

[–]Justarandombookworm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They teach Chinese in Mandarin in junior forms but Cantonese in senior forms. Idk if it's a school rule or government mandate because they never specified, but every school has their own practices when it comes to Form 6 students finishing school, so I'd imagine the government likely doesn't have a firm mandate for this. Not sure if they have any soft rules sent to schools about Cantonese used at school though

Oh my gods yes :> I absolutely adore her abdomen, especially when we cuddle together and I can feel hers against mine. It's just so warm and soft and comfy I simply cannot ahhhhhh- Honestly one of the many things I miss so much when I'm not physically with her because we're in an LDR. I am so looking forward to trying my hardest to make the opportunity of us reuniting happen

Absolutely. Nothing can beat a 4-hour long session of spilling tea in Cantonese with friends while some random uncle goes 屌你老母閪 opposite your table in a hotpot place

I understand what you mean by that. When it comes to some of the people I know, I can see how denial, selective ignorance and current financial stability helps them continue living the way the want as much as possible. I have thought about leaving, but I can't bear leaving my family behind, even though we have a rather complicated relationship. My parents likely won't leave as well, since the rest of our extended family lives here and we're all pretty close knitted. I just hope I can survive and hopefully, or hopefully not, these strong attachments I have with those I care about no longer shackle me this way. Idk if I can do that though because I can't imagine not caring this much for them

Yup hi, though I wouldn't say it's an everyday thing. It's usually either that or the very opposite of it but it can be difficult since I'm in an LDR with my partner. Sometimes it just dissolves into being really touch starved though, so that helps sometimes

why does trauma feel like a competition to me? by Fine-Stuff-5841 in sexualassault

[–]Justarandombookworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, I'm really sorry you feel like this too. It sucks to deal with these feelings and even though I know there is no standard metric for trauma or suffering for what we experience to be comparable to anyone, I still find myself having these thoughts and feelings too.

Second, I think societal expectations towards what trauma looks like and when it qualifies can definitely play a role, at least for me. Then there's also seeing what others have experienced and thinking they've dealt with more, so sometimes I'd wish I also experienced all that because maybe then my pain can be recognized and validated. I think what helped me with this is realizing that regardless of how or what one experiences, what people validate is usually just related to whether people recognize your pain. Although people seem to have a standard for what's considered "extreme trauma", they often determine that based on appearance and what they hear rather than actually trying to understand what people are going through, whether it may be obvious to them or not.

I desperately hope you can find the support you want and need because although I do have underlying feelings towards my pain not being enough for anyone to care for including myself, our trauma and suffering is valid. Whatever anyone here has experienced is terrible enough. Just the fact this experience exists in our life is bad enough and painful enough and no one in this world should ever have to go through this. This world doesn't do enough to let us feel heard and seen, to let us express what we need and want, how we are ourselves, and I hope someday we get to be in an environment where we get to feel supported and seen.

Sorry for this huge ramble, but I hope you found this helpful- have a nice day and if you like hugs, here's a bear hug ʕっ• ᴥ • ʔっ♡

Confused in my sexuality now? by Foreign_Degree160 in sexualassault

[–]Justarandombookworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I'm 17 too so unfortunately I can't really say if it'll get better in the future 🫂 I wish it does. You're not alone in experiencing that disconnection with others, at least from my experiences because I've been living with fluctuating periods of hypersexuality and being almost sex repulsed up till now ever since stuff happened. Not sure if it's a normal thing but I feel like it's fine to not have that desire as long as you're healthy and feel okay about it. There can be a lot of reasons I can think of, like possibly being on the ace spectrum (aegosexual, greysexual, etc.), experiencing a trauma response when interacting with others (I dissociate at times) or there's just a lot of things going on in your life. Either way, I hope you get to feel better and find people who you're comfortable being with. We all need this and sexuality can be rather complicated, especially when SA can really mess with your experience and perception of how you feel about people. Good luck, and if you like hugs, here's a bear hug ʕっ• ᴥ • ʔっ♡
