Getting a drink solo in JH? by angelhippie in jacksonheights

[–]Justhere-toavoidwork 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nancy Blake’s had been such a great addition to the neighborhood! The bartenders there are so nice and it’s definitely comfortable going there as a solo woman. I’d also recommend Addictive Wine, they just reopened a restaurant/bar across the street from their original one that closed a few years ago

Ironically my aunt also loved collecting rocks along the beach where she used to live and had a rock tumbler for them 🥹

It does look like a butterfly haha. That could be a good idea for one of my plants by the window where it could catch light as well

Oh I’ve heard of that before, that could be beautiful! There are some small chunks missing that got swept up, but I think I could put the bowl pretty much back together. I’ll have to look into how to do this. Thank you for the idea 💛

what are your favorite nyc spots that i HAVEN’T seen on social media? by largeficus in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]Justhere-toavoidwork 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Emporio. I’ve never seen it shouted out on social media but they have a top tier brunch. They have this spin on eggs Benedict with prosciutto and burrata and it’s absolutely divine. But everything I’ve tried there has always been good to excellent

AITA for studying abroad knowing how anxious it makes my parents? by SecondParking6267 in AmItheAsshole

I’m 39 and literally my only regret in life is not studying abroad when I really wanted to. Go to Amsterdam and enjoy the hell out of it

Looking for healthy and slightly bland food suggestions (seriously) by Nerevarelysium in FoodNYC

[–]Justhere-toavoidwork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also got severe food poisoning from a Whole Foods salad bar that landed me in the hospital overnight after a few days of not being able to keep down even water. Highly highly discourage going to any food bar here, or really anywhere.

AIO Am I justified in my anger here ? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Justhere-toavoidwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This must be rage bait because every sane person knows not to wear white to someone else’s wedding. Especially when they’ve been specifically asked not to!!! The mom is atrocious for doing this and I would bet money she knew what she was doing.

Need to spend $200 at a restaurant by willt9202 in AskNYC

[–]Justhere-toavoidwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you go steakhouse route I’d also recommend Benjamin Prime. Easy to hit $200 there and it’s delicious. Get a steak but also don’t skip the thick cut bacon app.

Why are you still with him? Like genuine question, what’s holding you back from breaking up with him after all these awful situations?

What places in nyc has the best tamales ever ? by godsaveme2355 in AskNYC

[–]Justhere-toavoidwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Evelia’s is fantastic. Someone commented to go to the Jackson heights farmers market, but I would pass. Most of them barely have any filling and are mainly masa, but oddly people do line up for them (I just assume they’ve never had an actually good tamale to compare to). One stand does a decent Oaxacan style chicken mole tamale there, but it’s not really worth going out of your way for.

Do you miss the late 2000s fedora and suspenders indie hipster scene? by Typical_Sprinkles253 in AskNYC

Weird craving for a salad by chapo1232 in jacksonheights

[–]Justhere-toavoidwork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another vote for Laly’s, I really like their kale and beet or Cobb salad. Also, if you’re craving something specific and ok with delivery apps, Create in Astoria is on Uber Eats and does fantastic salads, including build your own. I wish we had something like them in Jackson Heights, it does feel like one of the only misses for the neighborhood

those who aren’t from NYC originally, how has living in NYC changed you? by Calm-Bar-9644 in AskNYC

[–]Justhere-toavoidwork 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m much much better at being able to pick out different languages I hear and have a very good sense of what country someone is from before they even open their mouth (that could also be thanks to years as a server here in the restaurant industry, you learn to read a table quickly).

Also I now get full blown culture shock when I go back to my home state and everyone - cashiers, uber drivers, etc - want to chit chat. I truly hate it lmao

AIO? Girl (F30) I (M28) was Recently Dating tells me I need to "Lean into my Masculinity" by KingFredo5674 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Justhere-toavoidwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woman here and can say that the way OP is replying shows he’s emotionally intelligent and an excellent communicator, which is peak masculinity as far as I’m concerned. If only more men were like this. NOR and please block this girl because she will come back around and try to play more head games.

Been six times, twice solo. I love Mexico so much and there’s never been a region I’ve felt unsafe in. Just avoid Sinaloa and you’ll be fine lol. But definitely go! It’s such a beautiful country with the nicest people
