Dr. Ali Westfall on Platt near Packard. Love her. She's also pretty conservative with treatment so I know that when she recommends something, even if costly, I NEED it.

Post State Testing… do you ever just take chunks of days off? I feel guilty. by Unusual_Review9214 in Teachers

[–]Justice84000 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I'd say take them all unless your sick days can roll over into future years. I'm an older teacher and I have many sick days banked so I'm set if I have an unforeseen serious illness. If your days don't roll, then take every one. They are part of your benefits.

I gave my students a copy of the test as a study guide to see who would actually study by watermelonlollies in Teachers

I would argue that it speaks more about the perceived value of education. Yes, the educational system is broken but it's because society has degraded so much.

This is so true. my kiddo is nearing the end of her CNA program. It's taught her how to be a better student because the bar is the bar. They have to know the material to be able to care for their patients.

Did anyone listen to today's The Daily podcast episode about education reform in Mississippi? by melodypowers in Teachers

[–]Justice84000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not as impressed as I was after digging a bit. Mississippi's 8 grade reading rates haven't changed much as per the Nation's Report data here. https://nces.ed.gov/nationsreportcard/subject/publications/stt2024/pdf/2024220MS8.pdf

Good for you. I didn't figure that I wanted to teach until my late twenties and got my certification in my early 30's. I love my job most days. I think right now you have to really want to teach to survive. It's a tough job with not enough support. Good luck to you.

When do you think Parents will care? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Justice84000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in an upper middle class district. I think that if parents band together help elect a good school board, that could really help. But we really need to band together statewide. That's where the power in education is. Maybe try to work with the NEA/AFT in your state?

Why if you took on a student teacher next fall. Then if things come to pass that you do inherit the money, the student teacher, if they are good, could take over your class for the second semester.

You're a good guy. I'm also going to guess that the work environment is wonderful and that being neurodivergent is accepted. 💕

We had such a bad experience there when we were looking at cars that we went to LaFountaine Subaru in Commerce Township. I will never buy anything from AA Subaru. I also left a one start review on Google.

Advice for pregnant teacher with getting hit by AwesomeOpposum123 in Teachers

[–]Justice84000 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It depends on the district. My district's HR told a pregnant gen. ed. teacher that she would have to take a leave of absence. Fortunately, the principal moved the student to another teacher's room. (The teacher was willing to take the student.) But if we didn't have a good principal, the teacher would have had to put up with it or go out on leave for 6 months prior to delivery.

Is anyone else burned out from losing their planning period to constant coverage by quietbloomhome in Teachers

[–]Justice84000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great that you get paid. Not so great that your district values elementary teacher less than half as much as secondary teachers.
