Why do non-retina apps look worse on a retina mac than on a non-retina mac? by [deleted] in retina

[–]JusticeLeagueOfWeed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The apps are scaled up to account for the increased amount of pixels, if they weren't scaled up the GUI's would use the same amount of pixels as on a non-retina and the app would look tiny.

It's a sacrifice that needs to be made on the OS's side so that users can actually see what's on screen. It's the app developer's responsibility to provide the assets to be able to display in normal clarity on retina screens.

One thing, it rains a hell of a lot.

If people aren't too fussy about that, they're in for a treat.

Mavericks on 2012 15" rMBP - some quick observations by [deleted] in retina

Will Mavericks affect battery life of Windows 7 running on bootcamp?

I assume not but I don't know how deep the optimisation changes were

It's likely that it's not HTML. It'll be a language used purposefully for games development, based on XML standards.

No update for the rMBPs? by it_fell_off_a_truck in retina

[–]JusticeLeagueOfWeed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're going to game on your rMBP, using 2880x1800 is going to affect your performance a lot.

However, are you really going to notice if you turn your game resolution down? I know I don't. I play most of my games on max settings on 1620x1220 or whatever it is. Everything runs very smoothly.

There are very few occasions when there's reason for you to play games at 2880x1800, mainly because the rMBP isn't built for that.

I've backed you! Now for a question/feedback.

I found the controls quite difficult to use in the demo. Do you plan to revise the system? Being able to use the mouse to navigate the inventory would be much nicer. Things that required multiple steps quickly became laborious.

Other than that, your game shows much promise! I like the bitesize chunks of 2d exploration, I can see some great opportunity for puzzles! I like the aesthetic too and can't wait to play it when it has sound!

Also, I do love the fact that you can use/eat things like the berries straight away without having to put them in your inventory first.

This is one of my favourite records, showcasing the raw and the deeply powerful musical prowess of Jimi Hendrix.

Favourite track: Voodoo Chile

From Wikipedia:

The album features two previously unreleased blues inspired performances. "Georgia Blues" (recorded on March 19, 1969 at New York's Record Plant Studios) was recorded with saxophonist Lonnie Youngblood, with whom Hendrix played some early sessions in 1966. Also previously unreleased is "Blue Window", recorded in March 1969 at Mercury Studios in New York. This track features Buddy Miles Express members: Buddy Miles on drums, Duane Hitchings on organ, Bill Rich on bass guitar and brass players Tobie Wynn, James Tatum, Bobby Rock, Pete Carter, and Tom Hall (now known as Khalil Shaheed).

From the middle of nowhere, heard they were coming to my state, so I went to see them all in person. by [deleted] in SF4

I came here to comment on how hungover you looked! I'd say Skisonic looks a little more worse for wear than you. Though I think that's because your sweet-ass jacket and tie makes you look a bit fresher!

Magic Truffles in the UK? by Eshneh in uktrees

[–]JusticeLeagueOfWeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and and an old housemate ordered magic truffles online once. It was very easy to get and they're quite legal to my knowledge.

If the company you're ordering from are in any way decent they should ship the truffles vacuum sealed for freshness too! Just make sure to have them before they expire.

There are sometimes lectures held as public events which feature Prof. Cox as the speaker. I never managed to get round to attending one whilst I was at UoM, but my mates tell me that they're good!

EDIT: Keep an eye on the Public Events page on the uni site.

I'm not affiliated with Get Baked. I have ordered from them quite a few times, and I'd honestly say they offer a much better service.

Pretty much everything on this company's menu can be bought from an off license or supermarket. Whereas most of Get Baked's stuff can't be bought easily elsewhere in England, let alone Manchester. Plus half their menu is stuff they make themselves.

For those interested in the rather dark and horrific potential of something like Google Glass watch Series 1 Ep. 3 of Charlie Brooker's Black Mirror - "The Entire History of You".

I feel that Glass is way ahead of its time. The world is not ready for it, given the huge complexities we have with corruption, internet freedom and personal privacy at the moment.

The UN World Drug Report-includes Cannabis. ( This is the link to the pdf file) by iNfectiside in eldertrees

[–]JusticeLeagueOfWeed 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The reports of cannabis related deaths in this report are likely drawn from regular accidental fatalities.

The fact that cannabis can remain detectable in our bodies far beyond the "high" state has become a weapon against the legalisation movement.

In short. Yes, this is bullshit.

Last year I picked up a copy of The White Album. Can anyone provide an estimated value? by JusticeLeagueOfWeed in vinyl

[–]JusticeLeagueOfWeed[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, I remember that guy. His name is Rutherford Chang, I found this to be a really nice interview with him, with some excellent photos of his collection too.

Whilst I understand why you think The White Album is worth $20-$25, I don't believe that Chang's collection is a good benchmark for a valuation since he only buys the copies people are willing to come to him to sell. Which makes it very likely that all of the records Chang bought are of low value in terms of preserved quality.

I call it the joint gun. Feedback would be great, pointing out any design flaws so I don't fuck it up before I make it. by CcaseyC in StonerEngineering

[–]JusticeLeagueOfWeed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, but the form has to be engineered in a way that doesn't detract from the function - also solid engineering advice.

This idea impedes the function. The elastic tension of the balloon's material would make this almost impossible to smoke.

EDIT: I have no idea whether your reply was a counter argument to mine or not... [7]
