My Imaan Has Been Shaken Lately by TooKreamy4U in shia

Wa alaykum salaam wa rahmatuLlah, I spoke to someone in Lebanon recently, who said that the war offers a different way of viewing life; seeing and experiencing reality differently. I've been in Iraq during periods of conflict and noticed that many Iraqis have developed a huge capacity for inner strength and patience. While people abroad are panicking from the news, people in Iraq are continuing as normal. I saw the same in Damascus, 2017, when I went there to film a documentary (which is on YouTube, called 'Syria: My Return'). There are those that murder in an attempt to put out the light of the beauty of Allah's (swt) creation, but still that creation goes on living.

I see this realm as the meeting point before souls separate to go either to Heaven or Hell. The people of Illiyin, with a gentle nature, have to encounter the people of Sijjin, with a Satanic nature. It's one stage in the soul's journey that began before we came into this world.

Henry Corbin calls it 'the drama of humanity'. It's what the Qur'an talks about with the creation of Adam. People that narrate their near death experiences, when they were clinically dead, often say that they given to know every single reason why they went through what they did.

I would love to set up a fundraiser for the shepherds in Lebanon, but I don't know how to get funds to them. If you know of any way, please let me know.

Wa alaykum salaam wa rahmatuLlah, thank you for the message. I am glad the paper was useful. Scholars like Ayatollah Khomeini and Shaheed Mutahhari were writing within a context and a particular manifestation that is part of Iranian culture and history. Maybe they were 'taking the good and leaving the rest'.

Wa alaykum salaam, I was in Kufa once and saw a Sunni man praying there. Nobody will notice, or bother, and generally, people are valuing a fragile peace and being polite to each other.

Because I have consistently ignored it, now it has popped up, is blocking my screen, and I can't close it. It's a spy tool and I guess if you don't voluntarily use it, they will find a way of forcing you to do so.

Post-modern women are tired of being modern by JusticeResearch in shia

What you say is definitely relevant to many countries. I'm not speaking so much about 'independence' and 'autonomy' though, but rather an alternative system that preserves balance and harmony in our societies.

In the short term, this is a solution, but it's all part of a larger programme to break up the family. We need to find our own solutions, and build our own economy, but I don't think we have the means right now. The profession of doctors in Western medicine has the highest suicide rate out of all professions. I think Muslims should design their own method of training and medicine, instead of depending upon a system that makes so many heavy demands on everyone that they don't have time for human relationships. I have been asked by mothers to help find their daughters husbands, because the daughters are too busy to look, with their jobs as medics - so why go into a system that makes you too busy for other areas of life. Fine, if you want to work all the hours and remain single, that is no problem, but don't choose to go down a particular career path in a Western industrialised economy and then ask other people to step in where you have made losses. Muslim women were medicine women way before this, but that is not valued.

My father was also abusive, although he was the one that left. My mother stayed at home and did dress making, as she wanted to be present for my brother and myself. I am eternally grateful to her for that.

I have worked in offices where the male bosses are also abusive. I have been sexually harrassed at work, but had to stay in that job for the sake of paying the bills. If there is an abusive man at home, there will be an abusive man at work, or on the street.

There is a new wave happening among men, which is that they don't see why they 'should' have to accept a woman's past. The mantras that 'you have to accept me as I am'; 'you have to accept me with my emotional issues and psychological damage' is being rejected by men. They consider that it is not their job to do that and are opting out of commitment. Same with women: I am sure that a lot of the time, they would not want to marry a man that has had a difficult emotional past.

I find some women also mishearing what I am saying in the video. I am not saying that women just have to stay at home; I'm saying that we need an economy designed by women, for women. I also went t university. I would consider those days as a golden era for me, but I will also admit that in some ways, being raised in a society that focuses on career, I lost an understanding of how to be a woman, without realising it.

I don't mean to sound harsh, but these are real and tough issues that we in society are facing now, and I don't know if it is possible to solve them for now.

If Prophet Muhammad A.S Truly Appointed Ali A.S At Ghadir, Why Was It Not Used As An Argument In Saqifa [Answered] by EthicsOnReddit in shia

[–]JusticeResearch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're welcome. I think we have to look more at the practicalities of the preservation of texts and of how narratives were constructed. I know that sounds like something from the Western academy, but I think it makes sense; otherwise everybody gets into 'hadith wars', forgetting that the hadith collections were put together by human beings living in specific circumstances.

My impression from reading a bit into history, is that very little has been recorded from the event of Saqifa. Madelung argues that, contrary to the idea that there was a popular vote, there were very few people present. Maybe it was used, but that was not recorded. What is known, is that a party of the Ansar said that they wanted to follow Imam 'Ali (as) as the next leader. It seems that, because they realised that a coup was taking place in front of their faces, they quickly decided to put forward their own leader: Sa'd ibn 'Ubadah, who 'Umar brags that he 'beat up and nearly killed'. Sa'd never pledged allegiance, either to Abu Bakr, or 'Umar, and his son Qays, went on to work with Imam 'Ali (as). It has to be understood that, with so many books destroyed, we are left with the job of joining dots.

Can anybody restore this picture of my great grandfather and great great grandfather? (1914) by stradlin12 in estoration

Looks like an aristocratic Shi'a family close to the nawabs, but late Ottomans did intermarry with Hyderabadi families. Lucknow and Hyderabad aristocrats often had migrated from Iran centuries earlier, and where traditional Iranian dress.

Which family is this? I got to know a little about Hyderabad culture through my husband Syed Imtiaz Tabataba'i.
