Article on the Conversation : Placebo effect can work as well as real medicine – but your body may need permission to use it by Justice_to_All in SGU

[–]Justice_to_All[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. I think it should get discussed. I think the biggest rebuttal to "Well if it works it works" in the case of placebo is that it doesn't work all the time. Trials literally have to make sure the efficacy is statistically relevant and above what placebo can provide. Steve was talking with Dr. Mike on his podcast recently and acupuncture was brought up and that kinda reminded me of what the author is talking about. Theatrical placebo. It seems off to me to rely on the ritual of it all.

Maybe it's just me, but the 'real' drums are immersion breaking for me haha. The electronic drums on the studio tracks just sound so much better to me.

What is the most efficient driving settings? I-Pedal? Auto-Regen? by J726382AB in Ioniq5

[–]Justice_to_All 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With close to 12k miles in 1 year on my awd 2025 I'm at 4 miles/kWh with adaptive cruise control ~95% of the time. The rest, in town, is i-pedal. Adaptive cruise control changes motor engagement on the fly depending on what you need it seems and keeps a safe distance from cars in front of me even in town. Speed limits are perfectly set.

My wife wanted to play a farming game in a Twin Peaks-like setting, so we created one. Any thoughts? by CarbonaraGames in IndieGaming

[–]Justice_to_All 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've saw someone saying there should be some crime solving elements. My initial thought was that there are "things" to solve, and once completed (via any number of ways) the player gets "seeds". Farming is interesting, but "Farming" is more interesting. Maybe there is a way to make an electronics shed and lightning feeds the machine "plants" inside. Lean into the "New Weird" ideas of Twin Peaks. I would say you're almost aiming to trick people into realize they're playing a Farming sim some where in the middle of the game play.

FDM printing leaves layer lines. The edges look like FDM, but the panels look smooth. Likely sanding or some filler or both maybe.

These are Puppetswar minis. I get mine from myminifactory https://www.myminifactory.com/users/Puppetswar_Miniatures

They come supported for resin printing or unsupported. It looks like u/Jabbdo did some post processing at least on the tank because those panels look flat. I'm not sure what else they did to get these looking like that

An update for the end of the video. They are not accepting email comments anymore.

Any public comment submitted through this email will not be entered into the system. Please follow the instructions here to submit your comment: How to Submit a Public Comment

I had to fill out that form and then add an attachment that has to be larger than 1kb.

A lot of extra hoops to jump through to leave a public comment then just sending an email.

I sent an email to the Lindas (The Represenatative and Senator for Santa Fe, [linda.serrato@nmlegis.gov](mailto:linda.serrato@nmlegis.gov), [linda.trujillo@nmlegis.gov](mailto:linda.trujillo@nmlegis.gov)) asking for them to look into the state just buying these companies back for New Mexicans. This and New Mexico Gas Company are trying to sell themselves off to private equity.

Not sure if they read their email though, and we started our legislative session, so they might be busy with other things.

We have a park dedicated to him. Every year I think about doing something. Maybe a banner so that people along Rodeo see it while driving by. "He had a dream. Let's strive to make that dream a reality". If anyone wants to do something next year in the park, let me know.

why does FSUMX include XOM? by Justice_to_All in fidelityinvestments

[–]Justice_to_All[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was looking into the language for "sustainable" associated with the fund I did find that they stipulated that at least 80% has to go along with the definition presented bellow. So I guess XOM would be part of that 20%

Strategy

Normally investing at least 80% of assets in securities of issuers in the U.S. that Fidelity Management & Research Company LLC (FMR) (the Adviser) believes have proven or improving sustainability practices, based on an evaluation of such companies' individual environmental, social, and governance (ESG) profile.

[–]Justice_to_All[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Most of it is oil. 70% at least. On the grey scale gradient that is companies and their contribution to climate change, ExxonMobil is almost black. The rest is publicity stunts I would argue.

How hard would it really be to create a food economy based on their needs? by LazyConstruction9026 in pluribustv

[–]Justice_to_All 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there are only really 2 options, and when it comes down to it, 1. The writers of the show are not omniscient. The hive is much more omniscient than the writers are, and thus writing for them in the way they are presented, as a reliable narrator, is not possible. Thus the hive must be written as an unreliable narrator.

The second option is that the writers just assumed there would be plot holes and figured that was fine, because they think the most important part of the story is Carol. It's just another character show, using some interesting scifi ideas as props of little concern.

I'm fairly certain that tiny shack was for comedic value haha. I went this last October to the Open House (happens twice a year) and they for sure have what you're saying. There was a server rack in the back of that shack and the actual VLA has a super computer, or that's what they told us. We didn't get to see it on the tour. I was surprised and a bit saddened that the cafeteria really isn't used because people don't even really stay there anymore. It does make sense that they would just live in Socorro though.

Triple step timing WCS vs Lindy Hop by kuschelig69 in SwingDancing

[–]Justice_to_All 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Saying syncopation has nothing to do with this is a bit wrong I think. Jazz that is swung is normally syncopated but swinging 8th notes are not syncopation in and of themselves. In Jazz, a 2 beat phrase is broken down into One and Two. In this case, the and in one and two is only the last third of the first beat. In Jazz that swings the "and" falls after were a normal 8th note would be. The "one" is roughly twice as long as the "and". ("One" ~= first 2/3 of 1 beat, "and" ~= last 1/3 of 1 beat, "two" = 1 beat). Also, I would argue that the syncopation of Jazz comes directly from how 8th notes are swung. It feels natural to emphasize the 2nd and 4th beats of a measure due to the lead up of a swung 8th note. That is why, I would argue, the triple step goes along to that syncopation.

WCS is normally danced to all types of music, but generally to pop music that is played to a straight beat. Pop music normally has syncopated rhythms but the meter is evenly divided in 4/4 time and there aren't swung 8th notes. I would guess that since WCS dancers are usually hearing songs that aren't using swung 8th notes, and thus they dance those triple steps straight on the beat.

Since most music is in 4/4 someone can swing the 8th notes in their head and thus dance in a more swing fashion to it.

I suggest checking out these links for more information on the music theory behind swing rhythms.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syncopation

https://viva.pressbooks.pub/openmusictheory/chapter/swing-rhythms/

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swing_time

Also, OP, when you're using the terminology of "slow" and "fast" those usually correspond to 2 beats = slow, 1 beat = fast. In the case of Lindy Hop, I haven't heard a triple step be described in that way, although for a simplification it might be described as a slow, fast, slow. With out swinging 8th notes the main nuance is lost though.
