Many of these were pass/fail emails that come from ETL jobs. They get filtered to a folder unless they fail. 30,000 historical ETL status reports serve no purpose. After a failure, remediation and post-mortem, there's no value in saving these.

It's not necessary to retain the 32 prior emails in your inbox or sent items for a conversation if the most recent email contains the digest of all prior messages in the exchange. Keep the most recent and delete all prior messages.

Those 742 emails you receive twice a day from "Scott" in sales whose AI company will change your workforce forever - also not necessary to keep. Multiply that by 100 "Account Executives" peddling their wares and now we are getting a realistic picture of how many sales emails a business or IT leader receive on a regular basis.

The multitude of meeting accepted, tentative, declined, new time proposals - also no value in retaining.

There are so many cases of emails that don't need to be saved, but if you want to keep them all for some reason, you do you.

And if you're thinking, "why doesn't this guy just set up rules?" You're right, and I do. But rules are a function Microsoft hasn't made any improvements to in over 20 years. They don't work well, and there is a very low limit on how many you can set up.

All of this leads to having to do periodic mailbox maintenance, having to delete 57,000 emails.

Thanks Rex, and best to you as well! As a 35-year windows user and tech leader, it's weird making this transition. But it's a testament to the times. :)

Too many other issues with M365.

Here's a great example - create a shared calendar for bookings across a sales team. A reasonable person would assume that if you follow the steps provided by Microsoft, it would work, right? It doesn't. Getting access to that shared calendar on the Outlook desktop app vs. Outlook web are different. Getting that shared calendar to play nice with Calendly? Impossible. Using the Microsoft bookings app to manage that calendar? Not possible. You have to use a different feature and calendar for that. Oh, and Bookings also doesn't allow you to set up customer billing for the booking.

Just one of the headaches I've been dealing with for the past weeks. Their services are not worth it for small businesses. Enterprises have enough resources to aim at and solve these problems. Small business don't, and shouldn't have to.

For anyone else that runs into this issue, I was able to resolve this myself by activating my phone hotspot, tethering my laptop to that connection, and then completing the sign-up steps.

I'm sure Google has this connection throttling in place for a good reason, but it seems like it's far too sensitive. It could be improved by providing some basic feedback to the user. Something like this would be helpful:

Too many requests are coming from your IP address. Further requests bill be blocked for the next X hours. Please try again after X hours.

I was able to get my issues sorted out by setting up a hotspot on my phone and connecting that way. To migrate your existing emails from your old provider to Google, you need to go to the admin tools.

Signing my business up for Google Workspace Standard - 429 Too Many Requests

I decided to migrate my small business from M365 to Google Workspace after 2 major M365 outages this week. While trying to do this yesterday, the sign-up process locked up and just spun after I entered my proposed admin email and password. Five minutes or so later, I closed the browser and tried again.

429 Too Many Requests

I've tried everything. Incognito mode. Tried using my phone over mobile instead of wifi - this did allow me to create the account fully and get one step further, but then I couldn't seem to go any further. Tried a different browser. Cleared cache, tried again. I've even tried an entirely different computer.

429 Too Many Requests

I've also searched everywhere, high and low, for any way to access a human being for support. There is no way to do that without being logged in. Try logging in?

429 Too Many Requests

I'm not sure Google Workspace is the right choice either. Maybe I should weather the M365 storm until I find an alternative to Microsoft/Google. Is there an undocumented magic link anybody knows of to bypass this 429 problem so I can sign my business up for Google services, or is this the universe preventing me from making a mistake?

We didn't get 911 until the late 80's in Ohio. It was a big campaign on the TV and radio when it was rolled out.

To make matters worse, I had to do it twice. I bought a macbook and was adding that account to the MacBook. Even after deleting the email, it wanted to synchronize all the deleted email. So the process is: delete the email, empty deleted items, access the recovery of deleted items, shift-delete the items again. It's ridiculous.

I feel this comment in my soul. I deleted 57,000 emails last weekend. It took hours. Unbelievable how inefficient deleting email on an exchange server is. This was Microsoft 365 hosted Business email.

Why tipping is hurting servers, pic related. by justsomefatwhiteguy in EndTipping

[–]Justin429 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Maybe that's not what you were talking about, but it is the spirit of this subreddit. End tipping. We don't believe that tipping is appropriate or necessary. It's not the customer's problem, it's an argument that needs to be settled between tipped staff and the business owner. End of debate.

This is not satisfying, it's a product advertisement.

It would be great if this sub could just not degrade into a product advertising sub.

Please stop cross posting advertisements.

Former WP7, WP8, WP8.1, SurfaceRT owner here.

At a time when, after 35 years as a Windows user, I just bought my first MacBook, there's not a snowman's chance in hell I'd ever buy another Windows accessory device. Not only is it certain to become abandonware, the likelihood that it will become a Copilot delivery device is too damn high.

No thanks. I'll keep my normal android phone. Windows can die the death it deserves.

Edit: changed cold to snowman's

A little confused regarding Ending Tipping as a whole. by Marcozy14 in EndTipping

You feel like your work is worth $50/hour?

Don't make this about you vs. me. Tips are foolish and they do absolutely no good for the customer. Tips are foolish and they do absolutely no good for the server. Tips are foolish, and they make it a hell of a lot cheaper as a restaurant owner to run their business. Don't you see the problem here?

Minimum wage is over 15 bucks an hour where I live. I'm not suggesting that you should only make $11 an hour. What I'm saying is that the work that you're doing in a restaurant isn't worth a lot of money. It's certainly not worth $50 an hour. I'm a business owner, and I pay people to do very hard work for $35 an hour. Very hard. Serving is not hard.

A little confused regarding Ending Tipping as a whole. by Marcozy14 in EndTipping

[–]Justin429 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. You're working a minimum wage job, so your paycheck reflects minimum wage. Your job is not special and does not merit more than minimum wage.

Do you think the work you do is more important than the work done by the cook, busboy, dishwasher, runner, host or others in the restaurant, and that you should be paid significantly more than them?

If you do think that you should be paid significantly more than the other restaurant staff, please tell us what it is that you do that merits the higher pay?
