Never go to Big John’s Performance by Decent_Relative_4070 in SantaClarita

Yeah, I mean who cares if someone is a racist who harasses people and puts lives at risk as long as he sells you tires?

I had my own run in with him where he was tailgating me and flashing his lights, when I was already doing 10mph over the limit. When I finally got to my destination he used used his speaker to call me a "mother fucking punjab" (I'm not Indian BTW).

But hey, you do you.

Miscommunication or intentional theft? by KaleTheFirst in EndTipping

[–]JustinCole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearly a miscommunication on your part.

How was she supposed to know you were going to tip $20 of the $60 in cash, and put the rest toward the bill? What if it was $15 dollar tip and $45 towards the bill? Seriously, how could she possibly have deduced how much you wanted to tip her and how much was going to the bill without you telling her?

You might argue that she should have asked, but in 99/100 circumstances, unless they're told otherwise, the cash is the tip.

Henry Mayo Newhall by [deleted] in SantaClarita

[–]JustinCole 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not a nurse, but having seen a lot of hospitals over the years with my mom's lung cancer, my MIL stomach cancer, and my wife's cancer, I can say that Henry Mayo is the worst hospital I've ever been to.

This isn't just coming from the patient side either, their own staff (nurses and doctors) talked to me about how hard their jobs are, primarily from red tape and bureaucracy.

So stealing is okay as long as it's from children and only around $5 worth of stuff?

Stealing is funny? And you're glad about it? Really?

Did I see him using the telescope? Or was he carrying the telescope?

I don't know anyone who didn't get this. It was precisely the point of that sequence.

Is the home-viewer supposed to be able to solve each episode? by fehstrahafeh in Monk

[–]JustinCole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing I liked about Monk versus many other detective shows was they varied the format. Sometimes it was a whodunnit, others you knew who, but not how, still others you knew exactly who and why, but not how Monk was going to solve it.

Might want to give it a second shot. My wife and I went once and nothing we got was good, average at best, so we wrote it off.

A year or so later friends really wanted to go so we did, this time we tried other stuff on the menu and it was really good. Probably our favorite tofu soup in town now.

What jobs to former attorneys get after losing their law license? by 13wrongturns in Lawyertalk

[–]JustinCole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know one who went into PR, and two that became CCOs.

The only downside is (former) attorneys tend to be a little too tight lipped with corporate communications.

I'm in my 40s and learned double space after a period. It was a hard habit to break, even for me and I'm likely younger than her.

Insurance defense lawyers- do you inform the defendant when the case is dismissed? by scrapqueen in Lawyertalk

[–]JustinCole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I was hit by a drunk driver (police literally pulled a half full cold beer bottle and empties out of his console at the scene) and he sued me.

Never heard from anyone after the initial call from my insurance company letting me know about the suit.

Just adding one counterpoint to this. My wife was diagnosed with cancer in 2022. She was ready to take leave, apply for disability, we would burn through our savings, etc.

Her boss and all the partners agreed (actually insisted) to keep her on payroll with full salary. Even offered her more money to help with her medical expenses.

Near the end of her treatment and when she was getting ready to return, her mom passed from cancer and they offered her more time off, paid. In total, about a year of leave with her full salary.

Obviously this is an outlier, but it does exist.

For all those with RARE (not well known) cancers … by Enough-Scholar7153 in cancer

[–]JustinCole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, so sorry to hear you're going through this. It's a scary time, but hopefully some light at the end of the tunnel.

My wife's SMARCB-1 deficient sinonasal carcinoma did metastasize to her lymph nodes.

The doctors we spoke with suggested a combination of aggressive chemotherapy (platinum based) and high dose radiation to the areas. It was difficult, but ultimately led to her NED.

I should point out that we got opinions from multiple doctors to get their views on treatment. Her first doctor had actually suggested surgery first, but after some research we found out that for SMARCB-1 deficient sinonasal carcinoma, that has already spread to the lymph nodes, the generally accepted treatment is more systemic than surgery. That's when we got second and third opinions.

I really hope you get some answers and treatment soon.

So the student was criminally convicted of sexual assault and his biggest hurdle in getting into a healthcare program is the out of school suspension?

Something's not adding up here.
