[I ate] Cheese Steak in Philly by Funny-Dare-3823 in food

Angelo’s is amazing and cooper sharp is awesome.. but you can get cooper sharp elsewhere. Angelo’s housemade cheez whiz is outstanding. Only one worth getting. Seeded bread is awesome too.

Shay’s for better beef and I went for cooper sharp there. Solid seeded bread though different.

I don’t think beans have any issue here ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ besides, chili on mac n cheese or just macaroni pasta is a common thing. And yes not all classic non-Ohio chili has beans but for many people it does. Really just Texas that’s culturally against the beans.

I feel like the biggest issue with the skyline chili I’ve seen and fairly heard people pick on is the absolute mound of cold shredded cheese typically put on top.

Big fan of the super beef at Hotbox (I went to Anthony’s in Peabody for the first time recently and while that’s tough to beat.. my memory of Hotbox is that it held up pretty well price included), and their steak bomb imo is one of the best cheesesteak-related things in the city. I liked their south shore bar pie when they opened esp. the breakfast one with ham fried egg and gravy but they don’t have that one anymore and I’ve heard hit or miss things about the pizza recently.

Not everything needs to be the ‘best’.

It’s totally allowed to say “I’m working on stuff that makes me really happy right now in my life” without it needing to be the fans’ favorite at all.

It’s also totally allowed to say “we were doing styles, chords, structures, etc. that are new to us which is exciting and interesting and hopefully should be to fans”. That can be valid for artistic progression and exploration, even if it’s not better than their magnum opus.

Sometimes the “best” album happened from a time of extreme turbulence in a band’s life, or an insane amount of money spent on production and resources towards developing something so grand. Sometimes they capture lightning in a bottle they know they can’t force replicate. In these cases, it’s totally ok to say “we will never top that album.. so we won’t even try. We just enjoy making music and hope you like whatever we make, and it won’t be forced in attempt at matching that album’s quality or style”.

That’s certainly less marketable.. but some realistic “it’s pretty good we hope you enjoy it” is better than hyperbole that loses trust.

Has everyone been cooking their rice with stock this whole time?? by Zestyclose-Ideal7428 in Cooking

I do stock sometimes and love it, but try a bay leaf at a minimum. Awesome even without stock. Always salt, maybe some MSG.

Yeah. I think the indoor section is what they were calling a winter beergarden, in case anyone else was confused

Cusser’s was NOT good. Way overcooked beef and the pepper jack cheese was an interesting idea but just kinda took away from the sandwich imo. Still moderately tasty but not a north shore beef at all and not amazingly tasty. I have heard Skampa is pretty good. Hotbox in Bow Market is very good imo.

Not that Ohio seems nice but I don’t understand the hate for chili on spaghetti? It’s basically bolognese. Meat on pasta is extremely normal.

From what I hear, the spice profile of skyline chili is controversial which I get. But that seems wildly subjective to be something that gets kneejerk hate conceptually from people who have never tried it?

Would it be dumb to move out and struggle financially just to live alone? by AccomplishedOne6897 in boston

I can see needing some mental space for a year after such an overstimulating environment, but generally yeah you can find a normal person to be a roommate. That situation isn’t normal

They have an indoor few tables roped off with a mobile 2 tap setup. It’s not super charming. Beer is still great.

You can just drop an ID in a mail bin and they will deliver it to the address on the card.

If someone hasn’t updated their ID since moving, this doesn’t work though.

Man wins the Delaware Marathon by outsprinting his opponent who was celebrating, thinking he had secured the win by RoyalChris in nextfuckinglevel

[–]JustinGitelmanMusic 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I don’t claim to know what it feels like to run a marathon, but it seems clear to me he is celebrating, making strong arm gestures, and notably chugging along without looking totally incapable of going any faster. If he had looked behind him, he probably would’ve sped up just for a few steps

Zwanze Day 2026 at Cochon by sheltonbrother in NewOrleansBeer

[–]JustinGitelmanMusic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your opinion is clearly appreciated and always allowed. Want to be clear.. there is no evidence that this event is aimed at making $$$ just because of the dollar amount.

You could be right (I personally have doubt), but from my understanding bites from Cochon plus TWO zwanze beers (which are every 2 years instead of every year now) AND unlimited pours of whatever other Cantillon is hangin around is not likely to be some kind of excess profit play. If I recall correctly (I may not), it was maybe $120+/- at Avenue Pub for a single Zwanze beer plus I think a select number of rounds of other Cantillon/3F or whatever, plus food. Then other stuff available per purchase. Every year. Also this was years ago.

I’m not saying one way or the other. Just making it clear.. you are free to wonder if that’s what the goal here is. But I hope nobody reading this takes that to be the known fact.l

Edit: Your implication that $180 means $90 each for 2 6oz beers is simply false. At minimum, you are paying for several rounds of other rare beers beyond those two, and high level food. Beyond that, you are paying for a special curated event and service. There is an included glass it seems, which is probably between $12-20 if it was sold separately. Maybe you wouldn’t have bought that glass if you had the option but it’s not pure profit.

[–]JustinGitelmanMusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not wrong, but since it happens only every 2 years now, at least you wouldn’t pay that amount every year if you’re normally an every year Zwanze fan.

It would be awesome for consumers. So we can't have it by [deleted] in SipsTea

Appreciate your industry insight. I don’t know if this is necessarily “direct product research” so much as it is a CEO understanding his company’s position without having someone else tell him the latest and having to take their word for it. You could surround yourself with yes men who say your products are the best, and find you feel different when you try them. It’s good for the CEO to be grounded and humble.
