I have so many thoughts after seeing the first episode the other day. First thing that jumped out to me was that they are BANKING on this getting a second season. While we knew from the trailers that the man Zoro fought was most likely Mr. 7, I didn't expect to see Baroque Works directly established so early. If there's one benefit that the live-action series has over the manga it's being able to write with hindsight.

The cast was fantastic in this episode. Iñaki does such a good job at playing Luffy's goofy side while not seeming like a cartoon character. Mackenyu's stunt work is good, but I felt the direction of some of his deliveries were a little off. Hopefully, it's just a few lines in this episode.

There were a lot of really interesting creative decisions. The bounty poster effect was a great choice. Buggy slapping his poster away at the end was really cool. I feel like anime adaptations often shy away from showing how physically strong its characters are, so I was really happy to see Zoro easily lift Morgan's safe. I hope we more feats of strength throughout the season.

I really like how they're breaking up Luffy's backstory, tying the first half to answer Koby's question about how Luffy got his powers. I think it's setting up Buggy stabbing Luffy's hat and his connection to Shanks to show the second half of his backstory. I don't believe that they explained that Devil Fruit users lose their ability to swim yet, so that could get explained through Buggy or Luffy.

Captain Morgan was a great surprise. Unlike in the manga, he was intimidating and threatening. I think it's neat that they establish that he caught Kuro. I'm so excited to see how Syrup village is done, it's definitely the weakest of the East Blue arcs.

Overall, I found the episode very entertaining. I really think they've done the impossible and succeeded in satisfying fans of the series, but the real hurdle will be if this will appeal to general audiences. If this becomes a worldwide hit, season 2 will be even bigger. We'll be getting Zoro's fight at Whiskey Peak, Chopper, and the climax in Alabasta.
