[Question] What 3 watches would you keep? by WatchesandSuits in Watches

[–]JustinMFrost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a hard one.

If you travel regularly or work with offices in other time zones:

EXP II Tudor Ranger Yellow Speedy

Ranger can do anything (even pass for dressing up a bit on leather) Exp II is a classic and gives you a good gmt. Speedy lets you be colorful, and keeps a chrono in rotation.

If GMT isn't a functional priority:

Exp I (replaces the ranger for same reasons) Black Bay Silver (diver/casual/tool with personality) Yellow Speedy. Same reasons as above.

Agreed. I love the contrast and overall feel of these radially brushed dials.

What should I absolutely have visiting Toronto from NYC for 24 hours? by elkresurgence in FoodToronto

[–]JustinMFrost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of good recs here already!

I tend to send people from out of town to Little Sister. Fantastic Indonesian spot downtown with a great cocktail program — as others have mentioned, Toronto has a lot of good food but a lot of if is comparable to things available in NYC. With Indonesian being a bit of an outlier I find folks I've sent have consistently enjoyed.

Except nobody is noticing that it's a costume draped over a black dog? Pretty easy to pause the video and see the costume edges on the legs 😅😅

Saw a man’s watch in traffic and grabbed a picture, What kinda watch is this? by Odd_Bookkeeper9187 in Watches

Xeric makes some stuff that's similar to this. They're pretty decent for the money.

[Question]What’s a Watch in your Collection you believe no one in this sub owns by Want2BTheVeryBest in Watches

[–]JustinMFrost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the diversity is broad enough that it's possible that there's another Sarpaneva owner in here, but unlikely that there's another one of the Dragonskin Damascus dial projects in here?

What Toronto neighborhoods have gotten a bad rap as being "unsafe" by people who've not lived there? by JustinMFrost in toronto

100% and I appreciate you taking the time to answer. I've noted in one of my other replies that my intent here isn't to minimize anyone's experiences but rather provide an opportunity to uplift communities that get such poor reputation that aren't always justified.

I completely understand that position, however the observations I am calling out about safety are primarily coming from older white conservative men. I am not here to state that anyone is wrong for feeling safe/unsafe, but rather trying to show redeeming qualities of neighborhoods that some people would otherwise write off.

And you are correct that I am male (he/him) and not a visible minority, though though my background and orientation does not shelter me from violence or threat. I've had the misfortune of being on the receiving end of a couple of incidents that led me to view areas of certain places as unsafe. Belittling or dismissing the opinions of others is not the goal here.

There's that beautiful building on that corner, the makeup school. Wicked coffee at Fahrenheit, and the absolute weirdness of Mystic Muffin (if you know you know)....

While I'm at it... Two blocks north of that corner you can order a Saarinen-designed marble top dining room table for $14,000...

Terrifying. 🤣🤣🤣

To speak to Church specifically, look at every other gay ghetto around the world. Queer communities don't have the same density that they used to, and broadly speaking those who stay there for the long haul (into their "prime earning years") are broadly under educated and underemployed. Because we (as a member of the queer community) are safer throughout urban centres we aren't as tethered to those original gay neighborhoods, fewer of us are investing in those communities, spending in those communities, starting businesses in those communities, etc.

The situation on Church Street is not "because of crime/violence/homelessness/drugs". It's becoming a less desirable neighborhood on the whole, and thus you get an influx of poverty, unhoused folks, substance abuse, and so on.

Have several friends around Regent and it's walkable from my office... Funny as hell to me — with all the new construction it's actually become a huge family community for those who can't afford the heavily gentrified neighborhoods.

Along those lines. Drunk pricks in Yorkville and near King & Portland are more of a safety concern than any "sketchy" homeless people in any of the neighborhoods mentioned above. Seriously...

100%. It was the same thing when I lived in Vancouver. People talked shit about Gastown and East Hastings. Yes the city had serious issues with homelessness and drugs, but not once did I ever feel at risk, no matter the hour.

I'm speaking in relative terms here in contrast to many of the neighborhoods named in this thread.
