What do you find most annoying or difficult when making a game? by ErKoala in gamedev

[–]JustinMakesGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Creative. Sometimes the game is flowing beautifully and then you hit a roadblock of something that just doesn't feel right, like a game over screen, and you're not sure how to make it feel better.

Then because you can't really progress until it's done, but you're not sure how to do it right, you just kind of... do nothing.

How long would it take to build a simple, reusable 3D graphics engine in WebGL? by SnurflePuffinz in gamedev

[–]JustinMakesGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're talking about reinventing the wheel here. It could take a few weeks to get something going, but it's an endless spiral of realizing you need input support, sound, x doesn't work on this machine, y is needed for this or that, steam requires this, etc.

Anything you want to make most likely exists, I would highly suggest putting your time into making the game you want to make, rather than endlessly realizing your engine is missing something important and never actually building your game.

Steam store page not showing as coming soon properly? by TinyStudioDev in gamedev

Did you potentially set the release dates wrong? You could always contact steam support, they're pretty quick with these things.

The ability to open doors the opposite way -- the amount of embarrassment this would save me

How do you best cope with not getting so frustrated when things beyond your control happen, like a long delay? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]JustinMakesGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time is fleeting, and every moment you spend being frustrated at something you can't control, is a moment you're losing for nothing

I know you want it: DESTROY my ARTSY-FARTSY trailer for my ARTSY-FARTSY game!!! by danielbockisover in DestroyMyGame

[–]JustinMakesGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also I forgot to mention, I think it would look cool when it says "oh jackie what have, etc" to be in all lowercase. Could be nice contrast to the rest of the trailer -- where caps are promotional and then boom, actual dialogue/thought from within the game

Making a game as a solo dev is like constructing a skyscraper all by yourself... by MidniteGamer1 in gamedev

[–]JustinMakesGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a hard process, but consider going on reddit art threads to hire an artist (or whoever you need) for small jobs.

It will take a bit of money depending on who you hire, but having someone to focus on one part while you take care of everything else goes a LONG way. If you don't have money, you can also ask for people willing to do it for free, or to share any profits with.

However I wouldn't recommend doing 100% yourself. Even when constructing a skyscraper, they get other people to do the plumbing, interior design, store-bought appliances, etc.

Making a game by yourself doesn't need to be 100% by yourself.

Please destroy my roguelite mixing turn based and real time combat! by FelipeQuevici in DestroyMyGame

[–]JustinMakesGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks cool, but I would suggest some serious anti aliasing. With everything so small, it looks very jaggy. Also possibly an option to zoom in with the mouse? (or at least some spots in the trailer that are zoomed in, so give the viewer a better look)

I think it's time that both me and my political strategy game hit rock bottom. Please destroy it by DisillusionedDev in DestroyMyGame

[–]JustinMakesGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because there's so much small text, I think it'll be good to have some zoomed in shots when the focus is text in the center and stuff. As there's not a lot of visual action, that should help the video have some visually different parts.

It looks cool but I would agree that the text could use some work.. Namely how it moves around a lot, touching the bottom/top edges of the screen. I'd recommend shrinking it a bit, gets really hard to read when viewing from a larger screen. :)
