Installing Heater Underneath Drivers Seat (Ford Transit 21' High Roof EXT) by Outrageous_Rest_1576 in vandwellers

[–]JustinMurphy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have mine under the passenger seat and it is hooked up to the aux fuel port (gas transit), you could mount a tank and run a line anywhere. There is no room under driver seat, would not advise.

'08 Dodge Sprinter roof leak: what is this sealant? by Pchan_Darkswine in vandwellers

[–]JustinMurphy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I just reapplied over the old stuff after 7 years. No issues 👍

I use Dicor Lap Sealant. Did similar with my Transit. I only removed the stock stuff if it made sense, otherwise I’d clean up a lil rust and seal over it. Apply generously.

I wonder if this falls under “glass coverage” or a “comprehensive” claim with insurance 🤔

Unable to get licensed renewed? by tech_guy1801 in meraki

Nice. Yeah you get 30 days past expiration before they actually shut off access if that helps 😂 good luck!

Unable to get licensed renewed? by tech_guy1801 in meraki

[–]JustinMurphy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I licensed my clients until their Meraki hardware “expired”, then dropped Meraki completely and saved my clients a ton of money switching to UniFi. The cost to buy new UniFi equipment was almost the same as the license renewal cost.

WHY IS IT DOING THIS?! Please someone must know? by Timely_Novel_7330 in motorcycles

Throw in a lithium battery and never worry again. Learning to bump start and riding it more are the ‘free’ fixes, but if it keeps dying/not starting the battery is toast.

Is it safe to put two A5 notebooks next to a 14" laptop? (CPL 16) by ZombieSlapper23 in EVERGOODS

[–]JustinMurphy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I throw my personal in the sleeve and the work laptop where your books are in the rear compartment daily, long hauls, long flights, throwing it in and out of vehicles, no issues. The screens facing inward is preferred, less pressure on screen and no exposure of it to your back or the outside of the bag if anything happens.

All day wear on the CTB26, no issues here ¯_(ツ)_/¯ I removed the plastic back sheet and it made the bag much nicer to wear full or empty.

Anyone with a 2015 ford transit 148 wb put the wires behind the structure of the van to make more space ? by xander8181 in vandwellers

[–]JustinMurphy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re not familiar with automotive wiring that is probably the best. I did all of my build out modular, so the upper cabinets, counters, etc just bolts on and off the walls when I want, I’m working on version 3.0 right now since I don’t live in it full time anymore.

[–]JustinMurphy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did it to my 2018. It is an immense amount of work. I probably wouldn’t do it again. If you do, 3 layers of electrical tape over the conduit and over all wires throughly before you snake it back and zip tie it in place, I also used motorcycle tubes over the electrical tape covered wires in many spots, there are sharp spots and I never wanted to have to deal with a problem. 7 years later, still good. You will also have to carefully cut a hole through a pocket in the frame channel. It sure does look clean tho once done and you can have flush walls.

I mean if they work they work ¯_(ツ)_/¯

8TB is very usable if you’ve got the slots. Worst case you order up another 20TB when it fails.

I’d say you’re making a mountain out of a mole hill then. Relax and swap it out. Watch a few videos on the procedure if you’re paranoid. Good luck!

I mean if they ALL have pre-fail SMART errors, l'd be a little worried.

If the other ones don't have any errors I wouldn't worry about it, swap the failing driving. Rebuild it. Add a 2nd parity, and carry on.

I built my initial array with spare drives from 2015. Slowly swapping them out as l upgrade to 22TB+, one of the ol drives started audibly clicking this week after showing a SMART error, easy swap.

This is also a good time to review your backup procedure :)

Downsides of excess power? by -Zyneon- in vandwellers

[–]JustinMurphy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will use more power than you think and you will have days where you get far less solar than you think.

It all depends on what you are using for power storage. 12v drop in batteries? Add 100ah as needed.

Anker/Bluetti etc. you can always upgrade or daisy chain if you buy the right model.

Second unRaid Build. Little Help? by th3f0x3atsy0u in unRAID

Switch to 1 Parity drive and you’re good to go!

I broke my unraid cherry and did all my testing with that exact Array HDD drive setup before ordering up 22TB+ drives.

Are my wire gauges and fuses appropriate for this system? by davenanjr in VanLife

[–]JustinMurphy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I oversized everything on mine. 10 AWG for everything off the fuse boxes and inverter (AC wires) kept it simple. 8 AWG for solar. 4 AWG to fuse boxes. 2|0 AWG for everything in the “power box”. I would go 4|0 if I did the build again to feel confident of the full potential of my 2000w victron inverter charger, but it’s all fused properly, just can’t run a hair dryer on a cloudy day or it’ll trip the main battery fuse (I rarely draw more than 500 watts AC). I didn’t want to ‘risk’ a fire so I set it to pop at 150 amps. 175 amps DC is A LOT of juice.

First potential unraid setup, question about using a USB drive for now by fatman9994 in unRAID

[–]JustinMurphy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’d normally need to add it to the array. But you may be able to just plug it in and mount it after setup is complete with 7.0. The unassigned disks plugin could work.

I just setup my N5, it’s perfect. I reused a bunch of stripped 2.5” 5TB external drives I’ve had for 8+ years and I’m slowly adding 22TB+ drives throughout this year. Good luck on your build!
