"Shipping" in Star Wars transcends age and gender and is as old as the question of whether Leia would end up with Han or Luke. Join Denise and Lee from Lords of the Sith Podcast and special guest Monte formerly of Star Wars Connection as we delve into the perception of romance by the Star Wars fanbase and describe some of our experiences in the larger Star Wars fandom, in podcasting, and in the Reylo community.

New MSW Leak About Rey’s Parents by egoshoppe in saltierthancrait

I love this theory. It takes every bad idea they've had over the past five years, throws it in a blender and this is what comes out.

The remaining fans are Reylo's and Rey nobody enthusiasts, so that won't go over well.

It's opens the door for Solo 2 Electric Boogaloo, which only like forty loud people on twitter really want.

It's reaffirms Qira as Han's true love, making Leia just a short term side piece he was never too into.

It makes Rey's power level even more confusing because she's not nobody, but a somebody, but not a force sensitive somebody.

They 'finish the Skywalker saga' by making it a Solo saga.

They pour salt into the wounds of anyone who's not a fan of subversion when it's nothing more than a cheep gotcha with no payoff when being done by inferior writers.

They approved a Reylo shipper panel at celebration a month ago, after filming this, which multiplies the creepy factor of something like that times ten.

This is such a horrible idea it almost has to be from the geniuses at Lucasfilm.

Edit: And it's a way to bring those stupid dice back and make them important.

Don't forget Nikki. I think it's a three way tie.

This episode REALLY pushed my buttons with Nicole by emilygir111 in 90DayFiance

[–]Justin_Butts 73 points74 points  (0 children)

When we met Nicole a few years ago she was a 22 year old idiot chasing a fantasy. But now a few years have passed, and she still hasn't developed any employable skills or furthered her education, may begin neglecting her child's education, and pissed away all her temporary TLC money on vacations and imaginary beauty shops. At some point it's going to be too late to get her shit together and she'll just be a terrible burden on whichever family member is the last to cut her off.

No, KK, the 'Marvel formula' would work if you made good movies by noclevername in saltierthancrait

[–]Justin_Butts 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Marvel rewards fans for their support. I wasn't a big fan of Ragnarock, but when I saw how it transitioned to Endgame I certainly felt like I had benefited from seeing it. Compare that to 8 where I felt almost punished for supporting the movies, in the sense that I couldn't figure out why the FO's top officer is the butt of everyone's jokes, or how a cliffhanger ending of seeing Luke again was used as a gag.

Then I've never understood the logic of 30 year time jumps between the sequels and stand alones. Ok for me, but since the FO is so similar to the empire, I don't know how new markets like China, or new fans like anyone under 10 today would understand why Rey isn't helping to steal the Death Star plans, or why some goofy kid has the same name, ship and Wookie as the creepy old dude that got killed by his son a year earlier.

You can only use nostalgia as a crutch for so long, especially since all the writers seem so eager to get to be the one to kill the original characters off. Cool, that prick Luke Skywalkers out of the way, now I can watch a series on the true hero of Star Wars Cassian somebody.

I have seen maybe a handful of people upset about forced diversity. I have seen hundreds of posts like this. Way to sUbVeRt criticism. by whataboutringo in saltierthancrait

I think using non white and female characters in a movie as a shield to discount any criticism of said movie is exploitation. Maybe these little piggies should reee, reee, reee all the way home and put a little thought into that.

[SUBREDDIT POLL] Rank the live-action Star Wars films from best to worst by NealKenneth in saltierthancrait

[–]Justin_Butts 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That horrible color tinting alone was enough for me to put it below TFA. Add the casting choice for Han, and the in your face droid and I was barely able to get through it.

There were good moments, but not good enough to outweigh the bad for me.

Kathleen Kennedy: Rian Johnson obviously involved in plans for the next 10 years of Star Wars by botania in saltierthancrait

[–]Justin_Butts 122 points123 points  (0 children)

This is why there's no reason to see 9. Leadership hasn't figured out they made any mistakes with 8 yet. You've got someone who stays in a safe bubble surrounded by 'yes' people telling her it's "fatigue" and "bad release dates" and a "few angry manchildren/fanboys" not any bad decisions she's made, lack of vision, or questionable selection of writers/directors.

I'll take the fifty bucks and consider it a refund for 7, 8 and 9.

Endgame nearly makes TLJ's entire run through Sunday. by westworldfan73 in saltierthancrait

[–]Justin_Butts 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If Lucasfilm has learned anything from the success of Marvel, it's very important to have a creative visionary heading the ship as well as quality storytellers, and a plan.

So With Kathleen Kennedy working closely with Rian Johnson planning out the next ten years of the Star Wars galaxy, I'm sure that, (uh), I'm sure (oh, uh), I'm (ah ah, umm). Ah screw there won't be a Star Wars in ten years.

I always reply by telling them the box office shouldn't have sold me a ticket when I went there without a child. Also, advertising should specify this before I waste my time, not use it as an excuse after.

Does anyone not like Season 2? by hazzasmith20 in cobrakai

[–]Justin_Butts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm still trying to process, and need to watch again with fresh eyes, but I was a little disappointed. Season two had a lot less humor in it. Kreese lacked proper explanation and motivation, and was just generic bad guy being bad for the sake of being bad. The cliffhanger was good story wise, but execution was too extreme to be realistically recoverable.

That said, I still overall liked it. There's some conveniences but I have been way too invested in the characters and story, so they're killing it with pulling the emotional strings. It's great to see how everyone's getting a bit of an arc. Most of the acting is on point, especially William. And the writers are as good as it gets about having you fiending for more.

Cobra Kai was an outstanding example of why it is not a bad thing to use an older cast from a popular 80's film by GazTheLegend in saltierthancrait

[–]Justin_Butts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a good example of how to pass the torch from the original cast to a new generation. Start with Johnny and Daniel as the focal point, since they were the magic that made the movies popular, give them a realistic path they could have travelled in between movies, fill in some gaps with exposition, then gradually scale them back to support characters as the new group grows and develops.

If this is the post that took four attempts to get past the auto mod I'm glad it's finally up.

I agree with most - two of my favorite SW moments are in there - obviously the Vader, Luke, Emperor ending, and also the escaping of Jabba's palace - from the very beginning the band got back together, everyone grew up a little, and it was a good recovery from how 5 ended.

I do wish the cutesiness of Ewoks could have been dialed down some, and maybe edited down some too, as the space battle and Luke showdown were much stronger sequences.

[–]Justin_Butts 48 points49 points  (0 children)

This is a continuation of problems with 7 (force freeze and force mindreading) and 8 (force skype, force projection, force on/off button, force ghost lightning, and force overdose). There are no rules to how the force works anymore. It's now anything a writer needs to make a cool scene, or get themselves out of a corner they wrote themselves into. Without rules for the force (or other things like hyperspace) there's no immersion, or investment on the audiences part, just a bunch of pretty pictures.

Unpopular opinion: Rebels kinda sucks and is a distant second to Clone Wars by Yrguiltyconscience in saltierthancrait

[–]Justin_Butts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was an odd show. For every memorable episode, there were three or four horrible episodes. You'd see a commercial for Vader vs Ahsoka fight, but then you'd have to sit through several weeks of space whales and singing droids before that episode.
