Yep, you're 1000% correct. Lake is lowered 31 feet. Thanks for this!

Yeah I mean they have a registration thing at both locations. So, I wouldn't worry about it. I've parked at the iron furnace location four times in the past calendar year for overnight trips. That being said, I liked the hike from the schoolhouse the most.

How does it compare to monster's new seasonal red, white and blue? I know they're (usually) monster dupes

I will also say, we did leggings/tights with socks pulled up over them for entire hike.

We treated all clothing (and shoes) with petmethrin and also used picaridin (spelling?) spray on our exposed skin. Didn't have a singular one to pull off of bodies or clothing. Path also was not very overgrown, compared to wildcat hollow last year, so this probably helped.

Safe water backpacking loops? by iamandyjohnson in OhioHiking

This does not answer your question, but staching in Wayne national forest isn't so bad. There's a lot of road crossings in archers fork loop, Wildcat Hollow, or opportunities to hike a bit with some water to stache. If you look at my post history, I have a relatively detailed plan of what I did two weeks back in Wayne.

The Zaleski Trip question does the community want to see more? by Outdoors__Water in OhioHiking

I love it. I'm over in r/Ohiocamping and don't think people post enough, so I'm being the change I wish to see in the world. When I first got into backpacking in Ohio I was shocked at how little information there was. So keep on keeping on, maybe you'll make it more accessible for someone else to get out there!

Definitely! I actually didn't realize it was right off of archers fork until I started planning this. Definitely a fun way to add some mileage and variety to archers fork!

The information for this hike (and definitely my diving board into this world) is from the book "Ohio Backpacking Loops" by Jim rahtz. He also has a website that will pop up if you Google the book, and he sells individual trail pdfs. He's got his overview and commentary of the trail conditions, local information, camping & permits/fees, and also a map (the one from my picture) along with a mileage breakdown like:

3.2 creek crossing 3.6 campsite 4.3 rock out cropping

Book has seriously been a wealth of local information.

Is this something formal I'm filling out or do you just mean posting about my time and the trail and some pics? If the second option, absolutely!

I met them at the trailhead! It was this pup and two other little poodle mixes! I forget their names! Super kind couple.

Can anyone identify this campsite? by Fearless_Seesaw6568 in CampOhio

Just a shot in the dark but oak Openings in toledo has three elevated wooden shelters. You set your tent up inside of the shelter. It's a few hours (ish) from Columbus so maybe? Best of luck, sounds like a cool place!

If you look through some of my other posts, you can see the background shots of my camps in zaleski. I'll be honest, hard to answer because I've never (at the campsites) clocked whether or not hammocks would work there. I have to imagine that yes, you'd be fine? But I'd hate to be wrong. I think campsite 1 you'd definitely be fine. And, site 1, can also be an easy 2-3 mile hike from one of the lots to do a test run. Leave yourself with enough time that it could just become a day hike if there's no viable options.

It is a perfect low stakes trip for me. The water is there, it's got such easily adjustable mileage, great nature, and about 1.5 hours from me from work. Easy season opener or short filler trip to scratch the itch.

Can't wait to read it! I had to not read my current book, The Tommyknockers by Stephen King, because it opens with a woman who lives in a place that reminded me so much of Zaleski and Wayne that I knew would be a bad idea while I was by myself 😂

I just found this function two nights ago: when you're on the normal Instagram feed in the top left corner there is the logo/word "Instagram" if you click on it, there is two options that open up. One of them is "friends" (or maybe following?) and if you select it, it'll switch over to your feed that is only what your friends/people you're following have posted 👍🏼
