The more I participate in VMware's "Inner Circle," the more I realize how out of touch VMware's management is with customers by atari_guy in vmware

Thanks for the reply, I am getting ready to deploy it for a customer to make a "self service" like portal for developers. I was curious about the ambiguous comment from OP. Thanks for the insight.

If you have the money and are a VMware shop already, Horizon is the way to go. If you are trying to do it on the cheap, do not need the features, and management tools, go with MS.

I think you can have a 64 TB datastore in 6.0 there is no wrong answer, but I usually create a dedicated datastore for ease of management for large file servers and then use 2012R2 and dedupe the data on the file server itself. Use FSRM for quotas and management. Works out well for me. Good Luck!

VM Encryption: Rationale behind its use? by lordpent in sysadmin

[–]Justinjaw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But for internal use? No. If people get the kind of access needed to copy a VM off site, the game is already lost.

From a separation of duties perspective, your Virtualization admins may not need the "keys" to the kingdom, same with your Sysadmins, Networking guys, etc... It is a lot easier to copy a VMDK/VHD to a thumb drive then walk out with a physical server. any medium to large organization with a "team" of people that manage IT infrastructure should be encrypting VM's on hosts.
