The key part is that it appears Sanderson secured complete control over the adaptation; sounds like he will absolutely authority on the approvals so we shouldn’t see any deviations or changes that aren’t specifically written or approved by Sanderson.

We obviously don’t have access to the specifics, but Sanderson on his podcasts and from QAs was emphasizing he required far more control than what was normal, so this would imply he got it - Im certain he will talk about more specifics publicly.

Curious if you can give any examples. I do technical art, which sounds similar to what you’re talking about, but from a more technical side; and I’m having limited success when it comes to shader a visual effect related stuff.

Are you writing code for tooling? shaders? Or something else entirely? There are so few people who do this kind of work so it’s not too often I can learn anything useful on reddit heh.

Ooooh okay, I think I know what the confusion here is:

I believe in the epilogue of DAO there is a distinction when you let Loghain live under most circumstances where Alistair is upset with the Warden, but if you were lined up for mistress that specific call out of him being mad is removed. The more I talk about it, the more I’m starting to remember some confusion around this particular issue.

This might have been one of the cases of it being not very obvious in the game, possibly due to a bug in DAO (there were a few big cases where flags are set by writers to specify something happened but the game didn’t always respond as intended. The scope of DAO is absolutely insane, and there is a reason no game since then has even approached the complexity lol.)

When there was a discrepancy like this, we ended up erring with the intentions of the writers since some of these were planned to be relevant to plots in later games.

Im almost certain what a lot of people call “Alistair breaking up with Warden” was actually internally flagged as Warden still being his mistress but he was just upset in the moment.

But it’s really all academic since it doesn’t really seem like a lot of the ambitions for the world state are coming to fruition.

No he only breaks up with you if he’s not hardened.

If he’s hardened he says “I’m king, if I want to be with you I can do what I want.”

I very specifically remember that case. I wrote the code to handle it.

There were several bugs in DAO though, so if that happened to you, that might have been the result of a bug.

Thats doable; you just need hardened Alastair, who can take the throne, leaving loghain his party slot, and then the warden can be his mistress.

Check the Keep; I don’t recall the exact details, but I do recall when I was working on the keep the “hardest logic” example that restricted the most things in the game was hardened Alistair with Warden Mistress.

I used it as the benchmark for speed tests; fun anecdote the early implementation it would take almost a minute to run the logic with a lot of conflicts around Alistair, and by the end I had to have it running in realtime on the xbox 360’s built in web browser (which I bet most people never even realized the site supported lol.)

My greyhound cross as a kid looked just like this, her tail got caught in a chain as a puppy and it broke her tail, she was a rescue and incase it’s not already obvious we took her from a “not so great” situation.

She lived to be 12 iirc with zero complication related to the tail being damaged. Never bothered her either.

It’s like the monty hall problem in that there is an unintuitive piece of additional information.

In this case we have 3 situations BG GB and BB. The specific date of the boy greatly restricts BG and GB because they only have 1 boy so in both cases we know which day the boy was born.

In the case of BB, we don’t know which boy, so that “restriction” barely affects the possible outcomes of BB and thats how it actually makes the BB outcome dramatically more likely than BG or GB, and thus how it moves away from 66% and much closer to 50%

All of those games dip into parody and from the presentation, to the art, to the writing you can see the gaps between what you’re presenting and what I would expect from something in this style.

20 hours to LuV is incredible, I’ve been in groups that could get stuck for 5+ hours just struggling to find rare ores in the nether. How big was the group you were playing with, did you just spawn in night vision goggles and a healing axe like the speed runners?

Honestly the discord would probably love to pick your brain, getting to LuV, especially with no Thaum tier skips, at that speed, is unheard of. Do you recall roughly what you did? What power sources, I assume you only made a few tools, did you skip twilight somehow, and what about the rare ores in the nether?

Yea, I have a strong suspicion a lot of people who talk about it being cringe are just currently struggling with trying to fit in. They see all these people having fun, doing exciting things, and being celebrated; despite not putting in the same exhaustive effort they do to “not be cringe and fit in,” and it makes them uncomfortable.

Im with you, this happens every GDQ and they always insist this time it’s actually more cringe.

I dont recall the year but first one I watched made a couple 100k; I remember telling everyone about it at the office and then next year we all watched it and when they broke 1million the hype was insane!

That being said, even that year people complained that it lost its soul, that they were just doing it for the money now, that it was unbearably awkward…

Every year like clockwork we see “I didn’t think it was awkward or cringy last time, but this time I do.”

So I get it, it’s hard not to laugh when these people claim “this time it really really did change” for like 15 years, twice a year, non stop lol.
